beforehand, i had a inspiron 17r special edition for one year, it had a 3rd gen i7 proc and decent graphics. after my laptop motherboard went and warrently within the week. i decided for a destop. i chose this one because, lets face it, HP and ASUS destops are way overpriced. if you are looking for a low budget gaming destop, THIS is youre best option. it can play current to date games in high and ultra with ZERO lag following you have good internet. with this 4th gen i7, regardless of what people say, 4th gen proccessors HANDLE better then 3rd gen, they are quieter, produce less heat, overall wear and tear of it is MUCH less. go ahead and compare for yourself, see where you can get the best hardware, for the lowest cost. its right here in front in you. staring you in the face. the XPS 8700 is waiting.
alright first off id like to say i purchased this laptop the first day 3rd generation processors came out. i was very excited and was in great need of a laptop to preform capabilities such as playing games in HD, and Streaming HD video to other Devices in my household.
Pros: the first thing i love about this laptop is its speed. i have the hard drive basically full already (1 tb) and it starts up and i could be browsing the internet or playing a game in exactly 17 seconds(including entering password). the next HUGE thing i love about it is that it has very nice speakers on it. i have skullcandy speakers and it gives my music a nice sound, i use these speakers as my 7th speaker to my surround sound system the last huge thing you need to know about this laptop is that its power! it WILL play just about any game you can think of in high quality. skyrim, borderlands 2, Bioshock. any game you can think of WILL RUN great on this system THE KEYBAORD LIGHTS UP SLEEP KEYBOARD ALLOWS QUIET TYPING POWER CORD HAS SMALL LED SO YOU CAN FIND IT IN DARK :D
Mediums: laptop will get very hot but won't overheat if you have plugged in on a cloth-like surface
Cons: they're a few cons to this laptop but they did not affect me that much Dell Data-safe, its a program pre-installed on the laptop that stops reformatting of you windows. i had to reformat my computer and was going to use my new windows 8 disk to put on it (its currently windows 7) but it LOCKS the hard drive from reformatting. i like to get this situation solved so i can upgrade. but on the upside Dell Data-Safe lets you reformat your computer to the original windows-7 home premium and leaves you with a clean slate. but doesn't allow you to upgrade. another con about this laptop is its power. if you are playing a graphic intensive game or program, the power might randomly shut off and you wont be able to turn the laptop on until it is plugged in, so you need to be careful of what you're doing when you're unplugged.
all in all this IS the best buy i've ever had from dell. this computer is a MUST for people with a medium sized budget for graphic intensive programs, for it will do basically anything you ask of it!
