Yes, I would recommend this product
One of the things I like the most about my computer is how great it sounds. Now it's been more than a year since I bought it,I think I got used to it.I just hope that the next version of this model will be even louder;more treble, more bass.
Looking forward to buying it.

Poor Power Adapter Interface

PostedMarch 16, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
Power adapter will not remain inserted into the computer unless it is sitting on a flat surface. Since this is a laptop and a lap is not particularly flat (especially on long flights), this has become a nightmare. Now the system will not charge and I had to purchase an external charger and a second battery so I can use the computer.
Extremely poor engineering
Pros:nice fast computer
Cons:external power adapter

My L702X Experience

PostedMarch 14, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
Mine is fully loaded I-7, 32G Ram, 2x750G 7200 rpm HHD 9 cell battery. I was overwhelmed with speed and quality of screen when I first got this. My only negative is where the power supply attaches to the computer, it is loose and in a poor location.
Pros:monitor resolution excellent, keyboard has excellent feel.
Cons:port for power adapter in poor location.

Nice but......

PostedJanuary 1, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
Pros :
Nicely constructed visually appealing laptop.
Good customer support.
Limited bloatware.
JBL Audio.
Cons :
Momentus hard drive.....
nVidia 540 Graphics/cooling....
Only 2x USB inputs
Review:
This laptop has failed everytime it is left on for a period of time with a: system disk not found error, requiring reboot. This has not been fixed and is a known issue.
The cooling solution though quiet is not sufficient for gaming applications, this is because the CPU and GPU share the same heat-pipe to heatsink cooling solution.
The nVidia 540 GPU will overheat and throttle resulting in a system freeze and hard reboot requirement.
This issue may be mitigated by either underclocking the video card by a 100 Hz or so or limiting the maximum CPU cycles to 80% under advanced power options thus effectively disabling ' turboboost ' and allowing the CPU to run cooler while the GPU runs at 100%. This is my preferred method for eliminating system freeze as there is a negligable loss in FPS while gaming, you don't have to underclock your GPU and your system will run approximately 10% cooler.
In fairness, no laptop other than custom gaming rigs have adequate cooling for obvious reasons. I love the audio on this laptop, I love it's solid construction and it performs admirably for normal everyday use.

$2100 paper weight

No, I do not recommend this product.
ordered and paid cash for a custom XPS 17 and have only had this machine for about 7 months. We have had problems since it was out of the box! Twice we have had in home repairs and just last week they replaced the motherboard (2nd in home service) ... now they want us to send it back for factory repair!!! Are you kidding me?
This is the first DELL we have ever purchased and will NEVER buy another one. We paid just over $2100 for this paper weight.

Had this machine for ten mos. and feel like I'm missing somthing. I just can't fault it, I am visualy handycapped. This is my third unit (duo inspiron, 15R Inspiron, 1702x)now am waiting for an XPS 14 should come tomorrow.
I've spent a lot time online for service, always helpful to me.
con would be size and weight, but that's what it is, heat is not bad nor is sound a real problem.

Love my xps 17!!

PostedSeptember 21, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I love my new xps 17! It's huge, the screen is crystal clear and bright without having a lot of reflection from the environment(which I hate!!). The keyboard is awesome - perfect size. I bought the wireless solar keyboard to go with this (with some points I had received) but really, there's no need for an extra keyboard. The keys are a nice size and they are protected from getting stuff (like dog hair) in and around them.
The only con is the mouse touchpad - and that's really not a con if you like touchpads. I personally don't care for them because I'm always dragging things by accident with the palm of my hand when typing. I will end up disabling it since I use a wireless mouse with the laptop. I wish that Dell had an option for the stick mouse in the middle of the keyboard like other brands do, but I know some people hate those too.
Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this laptop to anyone. I haven't noticed any issues with it getting hot to the touch and I do sit in a lazyboy with it on my lap for sometimes hours.
Pros:browsing, watching movies/tv, listening to music, light gaming

non-portable performer with unnecessary trappings

PostedSeptember 20, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
this notebook is a high-performance system, with large screen-size, GPU, HDMI, USB 3.0, but with following cons -
1. high glare /reflections from the screen,
2. BD drive is mostly unused as the pre-loaded SW for 3D movies does not work,
3. too heavy for a 'portable' system,
4. power-adapter is also heavy, with fat wires and a special pin-connector,
5. despite the size, a smallish "D" connector for VGA-out which requires an expensive adapter,
I regret buying it, could have got lighter & better & standard system for the same costs.

Fantastic, everything I want in a laptop.

A really wonderful laptop. Large, fast, and beautifully designed. It handles games perfectly so far. The sound is incredible, and the large screen is perfect. I haven't found any fault yet.
The touch-screen is so responsive and a great design there too. It does whir quite a bit with the more demanding games, but nothing too loud. I have yet to use the 3D, but I don't doubt it will be amazing. I love it.

Great computer if you DON'T BUY THE TOUCH SCREEN

PostedAugust 12, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
The laptop has overall been a good computer. It does however have 2 major flaws:
1) The touch screen has been a nightmare. It's been 6 months since I bought the computer, and the LCD assembly has been replaced twice, the touch screen parts were replaced once, and the entire laptop has been replaced. Did any of this fix the touch screen? No. It should be noted I don't believe Dell offers the touch screen any longer, can't imagine why. The solution however, was to give me an upgrade from the 900p monitor with a touch screen, to a 1080p monitor without the touch screen. I'm satisfied with the solution, however the frustration along the way has been severe.
2) When playing games (Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2 Beta, Dawn Of War) the left side of the keyboard (above the Nvidia GT550) get super hot. Many times it's enough that it can no longer be touched without causing pain. The position of the fan inlet on the bottom of the computer is such that I haven't found a laptop cooling pad that actually works effectively, so it means after about 1.5 hours of game time I have to turn off the game, take a break and let it cool down before picking back up where I left off. The updated BIOS did create an improvement, but not a solution, and every time they've replaced the LCD, they've also replaced the motherboard and fan, so I think it's an issue with the fans themselves.. I realize ALL laptops are built with horrible cooling, but this is definitely giving lots of room for improvement.
A minor issue that's pre-solved in a way, is that the touch pad is too big, and when typing, my hands are constantly touching it and moving the mouse. This is already fixed though, in that you can press FN+F3 and it turns off the touch pad, but it's worth mentioning.
All things considered though, with the resolution of the touch screen issue, I'm planning to buy a another XPS 17 for my second DJ system.
On a side note, and from a technical perspective, with the exception of the fan placement and touch pad size, the computer was designed and built very well. The components are mostly replaceable without replacing the motherboard, some of the common issues like the power cord port have been foreseen and have their own individual boards which will allow inexpensive and easy fixes. All the upgrades (HDD, RAM, wireless cards) are now located under 1 panel on the bottom, and easily worked on/replaced/upgraded, which is a vast improvement over the previous laptop's I've owned (most of which have been Dell's).
Pros:Gaming, sound and video recording/editting, dmx lighting control, custom speaker design, website maintenance, sound source (wav only) for mobile dj

Best Dell I have had yet.

PostedAugust 3, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I had the insperion and the only thing that did was inspire me to throw it away at about 8 months old. This XPS 17 would have 5 stars if not for all the extra junk Dell loads and forces to have on your computer. (like McAfee). I got the SSD Hard Drive and the 20.00 upgraded sound system. This computer boots up fast, in fact everything is fast on this computer, I have never heard such good sound from a laptop computer before. Every problem I had with the inspiron from the day I took it out of the box is non exsistant with this laptop. Right out of the box it instsntly detected all available wireless connections. Entered my pass word and instantly connected. The Inperion would rarely connect and when it did would loose signal even thou the router is 5 feet away. Im in total awe at how crisp and clear the screen is. The first thing I did after getting it set up was to go to McAfee and use the McAfee removal tool. Do this before you register the McAfee that comes installed on your computer or when the subscription runs out you get a bill for its renewal even though you dont have or use it. I then installed Norton Internet Security. Updated Norton, Ran windows update until no more updates were available. This laptop thus far rocks. I hate to it say after the horrific time with the inspiron but I love this laptop. Granted the inspiron was around 6-700.00 and with my upgrades this one was 2100.00. You definately get what you pay for. I just wish DELL would let you opt out of having some of the junk automaticall installed. I cant see somebody not being happy with this laptop and, I am an extremely picky person.

Purchased a XPS 17 in May 2012 waiting for the second hard drive to be installed. After shutting down laptop it won't restart. Gives error message 79 indicating hard drive failure. Have spent more time restoring and re-installing files than using laptop. Waste of $1,500. Will buy Mac after new drive installed and I can transfer files to Max

Dell System XPS L702X

Yes, I would recommend this product
I purchased the laptop a few months ago and have been quite pleased with it. I've used it for just about everything from school work, movies, and definitely for gaming, and I have no complains in any of these areas. The laptop is fast, hasn't presented any problems thus far and I'm loving it.
Con of this laptop are: It's pretty heavy but I was aware of this when I purchased it, due to its size. The one thing I really dislike about the laptop is that it keyboard and surrounding surfaces get really hot when playing high graphics demanding games and other applications. The only other small issue I have with the laptop is it's touchpad. It often time is activated unintentionally by my wrist, thus making writing frustrating.
