T5400 -- Still all the PC I need

PostedSeptember 17, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
Bought mine USED two years ago now with dual processors and one 24" monitor, still with business warranty for a song - MINT. Added an XFX Radeon HD5850 graphics card, two more 24" Dell monitors, SSD main harddrive, Intel Gigabit CT comm card, pro sound card, more and I am feeling NO need to upgrade at all any time soon. From trading stocks live to playing Rise of Flight on a 72"-wide (3x24") display, I have the feel of power to spare. Running Windows 7 Ultimate now with 6mb ram (plenty!). A big Crucial SSD was a REAL performance booster. 7.3 Windows performance rating overall. Great Dell support. I replaced the PS and main fans under warranty as they didn't sound quite right after three years use. New parts in 24 hours from Dell to my door! The T5400 makes a fine all-purpose machine. One can get more performance for ultimate gaming elsewhere for big bucks, but for one rig that does it all, the T5400 has been a reliable jewel. Mine stays for at least a couple more years (likely more!). Thanks, Dell-guys.
Pros:daily basics mostly like forums email youtube

6 years and still running very well

I've had the T5400 for 6 years and thought I'd say it's a fabulous workstation and even now is still a relatively solid machine. I upgraded the RAM and installed a couple of SSD's but overall I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever. This was my third Dell workstation.
Pros:software development, web design

Highly recommend this system for high-end CAD use. Upgrading the graphics card to an FX4600 and RAM to 8GB made it more robust for handling large assembly modelling project.

Lots of power packed into smaller tower

This is probably one of the best built computers I've ever used. It is full featured and works like a dream using Vista 64 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 with a Matrox RTx2LE.
Pros:Very fast, quiet, solidly built, stable.
Cons:Could use one or two more drive bays.

A Rocket!

Go for the fastest dual processors and video you can afford at time of purchase. RAM can be expanded at any time later - it's quick and easy to install yourself; and with 48Gs of room available, there's lots of power potential. Dell's business customer service and technical support have been excellent.
Pros:Rock solid; very quiet; very fast; easy and quick access to the interior; lots of expansion potential for RAM and disk storage; better value than the competition; arrived via courier quicker than scheduled with no problems.
Cons:16G and 32G RAM are not cheap.

Best Price Performance

This machine would make a good gamer with the right graphics card. It's much lower noise level than the old PW-670 is very welcome.
Pros:Fast, Quiet, Stable. CPU performance is 20% better than an OC-Q6600. Dual E5430 @2.66Ghz, vs. Q6600 @3.1GHz. just for comparison.
Cons:More internal drive bays would be nice, but not needed, (will be using external 1394 raid for video capture).
