Excellent fast/stable server, definitely loud, but then again I expect it of a server. Air flow is high over all components, dust builds as expected so it will need to be opened up a couple times a year for cleaning. Lifting should be done by two people. Purchase price was very good with the discounts when I purchased; as stated by other reviewer, would be difficult to build a server from components, beating the discounted price. Negitives,tough...to nit pick, wish Dell would use locks which could not be picked with a paper clip..then again the locks are no worse then other manufacturers.
I was going to build a custom server, but I couldn't beat Dells price with the $1,400 discount. It's also worth mentioning that this thing can be very loud if the room it's in is not well cooled. This case has lots of temp controlled fans that will sound like a jet engine if the system starts to heat up enough. The fans also rev to max rpm when you start the system, it can easily startle someone that isn't expecting it.
Specs: Dual quad core 2.0GHz processors, X3 500GB SATA Hard drives, Dual Intel Pro gigabit NIC, 4GB Ram, Windows Server 2003.
Pros:This thing is a beast! Tons of expandability, dual processors, redundant power supply... wow. This server will last for years.
Cons:These are not really very big cons, I expected most of them.
Very heavy, very, very long (almost twice the length of a standard PC case). The dual caster wheels are worthless on carpet. Requires a good UPS, it overloaded the one I was using for the prior server.
