This PC absolutely rocks. First off it is the quietest Desktop I've ever owned. My system was ordered with a 3rd gen Intel Core I5-3330, 8GB of ram, 1TB hddrv, internal 5.1 sound and internal Intel HD graphics. I also ordered the Dell S2340L LCD, what an awesome LCD. My system came with Windows 7 Home X64/SP1. I absolutely love this thing. Dell this Desktop scores an impressive Touchdown!! Great job!! Also 2 yr. warranty. Can’t beat the technology provided in this system for the price I paid. I'm very happy with this purchase. Only thing, I could not order a front bezel with a different color, not an option in my on-line purchase. Will Dell honor the price of $29 if I were to call? PC is only 1 week old. Thanks Dell!
Pros:vmware cd ripping photo editing, ms office web browsing some video editing

Hello toto4,
Thank you for your great review of the Inspiron 660! We are glad to hear that you are enjoying it so much! In regards to the bezel color, this option is available in the sales configurator at the time of purchase when you select "Customize & Buy" and then the Color module. If you selected the "Add to Cart" option, there are not further options to customize.
I would definitely suggest that you get in touch with our our Social Support Team, as they will be happy to look into this matter for you.
I've owned 2 previous Dells desktops at home and have purchased dozens more for the office. Pleased with all those purchases. The recommendation is for someone who would never buy a PC without customization...or open up the chasis to add a component...or even know what a chasis is. If I was recommending a PC for a casual user ("I don't care how it works, I just want it to make toast") I would say yes. Otherwise, spend the extra few bucks and by an Optiplex...that's what I've been buying at the office and they're still great machines.
1st case of buyer's remorse I've ever had with a Dell purchase. I'll be happy if/when I can find someone (who still uses a desktop computer) to give it to so I can get this thing out of my sight.
Pros:good value (inexpensive), dell financing...easy a can be
Cons:cheap looking, cheap feel to it, cheap components particularly the dvd r/w, awkwardly placed & unneeded tray for card and usb, cheesy button to open dvd and no activity lite

Hello Remoresfulbuyer,
Thank you for being a long time Dell customer. We appreciate you taking the time to review your Inspiron 600. I am sorry to hear it does not meet your expectations. If you are looking for a consumer system, with expandability, for a heavy user like yourself. I would recommend checking out the CPS 8500/8700. They are high performance systems with a lot of expandability.
I ordered the Inspiron 660 through Dell's Chat session late Sunday night, before Memorial Day. It arrived the following Friday. Installation was easy, The standard mouse and keyboard are extremely cheap and chintzy, but they work. I'll adapt my old keyboard over to USB. Otherwise, Windows 7 installed all my printers, and found drivers for everything I threw at it. It's disappointing Dell used 2.0 USB ports under the front cover. It defeats the purpose of using 3.0 flash drives for quick, easy transfers. The I-5 quad core processor and hard drive are lightning fast. Overall, a good package for the money.
Great Product - however, be it this device or another, a household must define completely all needs and purchase accordingly to ensure a product achieves such.
Out of the box speed, presentation, usability - Excellent. However, for this household it was definitely not what I thought was ordered through online chat.
Household necessity for purchase was replacement of another manufacture system down hard so transfer of data not possible, however, adding of a second hard drive doable to restore/capture files.
Buyer be ware. Meaning only that Dell has given us a great product, yet each household, especially this one, prior to a Dell purchase commitment, needs to ensure all/any needs are included in a purchase.
For this household, Dell fall short, in meeting expectations and although the 660 may someday meet needs and/or expectations, thus far it has not come without numerous tech support calls (some positive - more negative) - meaning that this was not a part of the shipped order so go away, find your own local computer tech support and "oh" by the way, it will invalidate any/all warenty support. Love it.
Bottom line - Buyer be ware - Know your personal needs, buy accordingly. Had this household added 80/100 dollars to the order to include a second drive to accomplish recovery.
To-date, I am a consumer with a very short fuse, have placed a few calls already to Dell Tech Support (hung up on a few), but please be advised that it is all about our order commitment. I it is not in the shipping document, Dell will not support. Contact your local Computer Shop - and of course it may invalidate your warranty.
Again, my experience thus far is positive on the Dell Product, but standby on any support or backing of your purchase.
This is the best computer I ever owned. I have had 5 Dell computers in my house. Best manufacture ever! I have been able to play music on USB speakers using iTunes and browse the internet on a second screen (1360x768 and 1280x1024)! Great buy. Couldn't be happier! I wish it had Bluetooth.
Pros:wireless, windows 8, dell, hdmi, 1tb hard drive, 4 usb 3.0
I left my computer 1.5 hrs ago completely fine.... pressed Tab to wake up - last page appeared, went - Google - nothing, again - nothing, check Internet connection - o'k, white screen, wait for 3 min to resolve - nothing. Reboot by pressing power button. - it come to the Windows 7 "Welcome" and stuck here. F8 - nothing, F12 - o'k - check the system - o'k. Reboot button - again to "Welcome" and no further... ???? Tryed again - the same. Looks like Windows 7 is corrupt. Bought Inspiron 660 i3 just couple weeks ago. Of course Dell sells with no CD. Have no idea what next ?? Bought Inspiron becouse had an exelent computer in a past Inspiron 530 with CD's, had no problem. What I soopouse to do with this now...

New Inspiron 600 hasn't worked more than two days in two weeks
PostedMay 14, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
Pros: New computer was fast and I liked the software that Dell already had installed. It worked great right out of the box but soon crashed.
Cons: I've had this computer for over two weeks now and it hasn't worked for more than a couple of days at a time. It often locks up, doesn't recognize the hard drive, or crashes to a blue screen. I've tried the Dell recovery disks and system restore and nothing works. I'm currently working on my second complete hard drive wipe and Windows 7 reinstall, hope it works this time.

Windows Defender

I just got a Dell Inspiron 660, 64 bit. It came loaded with Windows 8 but the Windows Defender doesn't seem to work on this computer. I don't know why Defender came with a computer it won't work on.
Cons:can't run defender
Response from Dell.comBy SaraTforDell, Customer Reviews, May 13, 2013
Hello Thomas,
Thank you for providing your feedback. Windows Defender is a part of the Windows operating system. We ship many Dell systems with McAfee Antivirus installed on them. Windows Defender cannot be enabled if McAfee is on the system. This is to prevent any issues with multiple protection programs running. If you want to completely remove McAfee to run a different protection software, please visit this article: http://dell.to/14he88W. It has the steps to remove the program.
I hope this can help.

my new dell 660 is awesome! i've owned my fair share of dells over the years and they've never let me down. however my new dell 660 takes performance and reliability to a whole new level. i look forward to many years of dependable service from my new dell, in fact i'm so happy with my inspiron 660 i had to buy my mom one to. keep up the good work guys!
I must say I love this PC. I use it for gaming, the complete Office suite, watching videos (sometimes multiple players at the same time) and having three different browsers open at one time. It never crashes! As people have mentioned it is incredibly quiet and it was a great value; especially for a 2 TB drive and 8 gigs of memory.
I feel bad for all the people that got Windows 8 and are miserable. I have Windows 7 since I purchased my computer several months ago. It took a while to get used to it, but once I did I loved it. So, it is NOT Dell's fault that is the version installed. Just as it was not their fault Windows 7 was installed on mine.
I made a BIG mistake by going with my first non-Dell computer in 2010. Not only did it break within a year (one day after the warranty expired mind you) but support was non-existent.
My first experience with Dell was in 1998. Loved that computer and kept it until it just wasn't fast enough with all the new technology. I had that computer as my main until 2003 and it is still working! In 2003, got another Dell that lasted seven years. Finally, am back to Dell again after the last debacle with a competitor.
I am only getting Dells from now on. It was ridiculous those two years I had a non-Dell.
Pros:quiet, fast, almost never crashes, can run many programs at once
Cons:none so far...

Insipron 660 is fantastic.

I bought this product on Friday; it arrived Monday. Excellent delivery times. I also found that Windows 8 is not confusing after about an hour of practice. It's user friendly, and as easy to use as Vista and 7. The 660 is fast, virtually silent, smooth and a really good all rounder. I have the 3rd Gen core I5 with 4GB of ram, and an HD Radeon Sapphire 6450 graphics card which I installed myself. It works like a charm. An excellent computer, ideal for gaming and schoolwork, this is a computer for a great price with great software. A big well done to Microsoft and Dell.
Pros:quick, quiet, responsive, smooth, user friendly, ideal for students
Computer doesn't work very well. McAfee keeps popping up that I'm not registered. Can't download anything including Adobe Reader. May have to reconnect my old computer to get anything done. The only plus is that it is fast at what it does, which isn't much.

Hello Willieone,
I am sorry that you are having some problems with some programs on your new system. The customer service departments for Adobe (http://dell.to/XCl1k0) and McAfee (http://dell.to/17dRyhs) should be able to help you out installing and registering their products. I also always recommend checking out Dell's support information on Windows 8 if you are new to using it.
I ordered and received my Inspiron 660 last week. I told the sales person that I was using the unit to record me singing with music. After almost 6 hours on phone with 5 different tech's they tell me the i3 processor was not built for this app. Something that would have been nice to know before purchase. I also found that the full sound system is not available until I pay another 69 dollars and a fee for this and a fee for that. Get real, dell. I can't believe you lost the sound program on the i3 that you had on the pentium 4. The win 8 I could learn to enjoy and the unit is very quiet. But at this time the computer will be returned and Ill look else where
Pros:looks good and is quiet
Cons:beware of what you want to accomplish with the sou
This PC is setup in my upstairs den with only an HDMI connection to my Sony TV and the power cord (other connections are all wireless). Case looks good with the rest of the entertainment center equipment.
Came installed with Windows 7 Pro, I added Windows 8 (dual boot) and everything works great in both OS's. Note this dual boot configuration does require 2 licenses for McAfee Security Center (ouch!).
Issues (Nit-picking):
1. Wireless N is coming in at only 65Mbs - I suspect the 1506 wireless adapter does not have the greatest antenna.
2. There does not seem to be a button on the optical drive, the tray only opens when requested by whatever software you are using.
This one is so quiet, and has the windows 8, i thought i was going to hate that, but i like it very much, still learning some things about it, and yet so far, this desktop is so much more advanced then even 2 years ago. it is fun to work with it.
i have a plain one, no fancy things on it, but, it serves my purpose of doing what i want and need.
i am very happy with this, and of course been a Dell customer now for about 10 years or so, and have had several desktops.
Just recently taken delivery of a shiny new Inspiron 660 with windows 8. I tried to get it on line but had question about it so I gave them a ring and spoke to a guy who did everything he could to help and was nice and easy to talk to. He took my order and everything went perfectly from then on. When I received the delivery everything worked fine strait from the box and it was the quietest computer I have ever had to date. I was a little worried about stuff I had read about people complaining about windows 8. But I think it is fantastic, I love it and all I can say is people to give it a chance to get used to it. I am not anything more than average with computers but I have had no trouble at all. It is BRILL........So is the 660. Of course I would have preferred something with higher spec but that depends on how deep your pockets are. So far I have been nothing but impressed with the speed of the machine and it has played the games I have just fine. Boot up is super rapid. My old XP would still be booting up, but with Windows 8, I am already on the net, no probs. To sum up. Dell sales and delivery was perfect with no probs. If I want another computer in future I will be going right to the Dell site again. John
Pros:well built and good spec for price, came with free monitor with is really nice also.
