I ordered this bundle because I already knew that the neoprene sleeve was too small for my power cable. Unfortunately, the portfolio case is no better. Putting anything else inside, even a magazine, makes closing the zippers difficult. The mesh pouch on the back that is not even big enough for the power adapter. Even with the upgraded "slim" unit, you have to ignore that it's designed to wrap on itself to get it in. Even then, it's a huge lump that will break the illusion that this is a Trapper-Keeper-style three-ring binder. I've seen bigger binders, so they could've made it a bit thicker and used design tricks like external mesh with a flap so that larger items could protrude and still mostly fit inside. You won't be able to fit even a small mouse. The original adapter could have fit if they made a small gap behind the notebook. An expander flap allowing items there to protrude underneath could have also been used to raise the bottom for airflow.
Unfortunately, the mesh only exposes half of the vent on the M11x even though it's designed to use in the case. There are no feet to allow airflow and the speakers are totally blocked. Making a wedge shape by folding the other half underneath works but damages the zippers and stitching, so it's either poorly made or poorly designed.
The covered speaker problem is exacerbated by the pockets that hold the front corners also covering both headphone jacks. The front AlienFX lights are also blocked from any reasonable viewing angle despite having mesh with clear film. The pockets make a hood by not conforming to the slope shape, and the excess material from the top is stitched on the side making a limited viewport. Two small loops of flexible plastic like the ID card window would block fewer ports and be perfectly visible.
The metallic alien head logo that is going to show marks and look ugly right away when it lays directly on whatever surface you are using it on. Strangely, the design is upside-down in Dell's images.
Conclusion: The Alienware Orion Portfolio Case for the M11x notebook is a victim of drive-by design by people who do not have to live with its faults every day. It does not suit the intended purpose of using it inside the case and does not add any more usable storage than the Alienware Orion Neoprene Sleeve for the same notebook.
