Yes, I would recommend this product
This is my first DSLR, or SLT if you want to be specific. I was going to go with the A37 but I have larger hands and this one just fits better. Solid feeling body, sturdy lens mount, rotatable screen that can turn over to protect itself in your camera bag. The only downsides to this camera come when you compare it to 3000 dollar professional camera. Those are unrealistic for a camera costing under a 1/4th of that. Pro features, including a very high burst rate that takes crystal clear pics that refocus between pics to keep moving objects sharp and full manual controls for exposure, shutter, aperture,you name it. It can use old minolta a-mount lenses, so a second hand lens to learn with and possibly damage may be a good choice for beginners. Kit lens does a good all around job, but I highly recommend getting the 75-300 mm lens in addition to the 18-55mm in this kit. If you have a hotshoe flash, you will need a converter because this has the minolta type shoe. Electronic viewfinder may be hated by some, but I enjoy it, gives you a more accurate view of what the photo will look like. Don't be intimidated about moving up from a point and shoot camera, in intelligent auto mode, you can turn on the power button and press the shutter for great pictures without any setting changes. Accessories I recommend are the RMT-DSLR2 remote control, the alpha handgrip sling, and a class 10 sd card.

Very good camera with a bit shortcomings

Yes, I would recommend this product
I cannot rate the picture quality since I am using a kit lens and this is my first SONY DSLR, coming from Fujifilm X100.
What I like the most:
1. AF speed is fast, IMHO, taken with pictures on ambient bedroom light at night.
2. 60 fps video, with continuous AF.
3. Metering is very good, I do get occasional blown highlights but not often.
4. Colors are very vibrant and saturated (although this is negative for me, plus for many).
5. In body stabilization
What I didn't like:
1. I cannot turn down the color as it is too bright and saturated for me. They seem so unnatural. I been searching through controls and did not find that option, or maybe there is none?
2. Lens focusing noise can be heard in video playback and is not quiet at all.
Overall, its a step above my Fujifilm X100. I use it sometimes to capture scenes to be used as subjects to my painting.

Yes, I would recommend this product
This camera takes amazing pictures without having to be an expert. Perfect camera for our baby so we can get a split second shot. You can take continuous pictures so you do not miss a shot. Very good features to make your pictures even better. This is our second Sony Alpha camera, we bought another one because our first one stolen and we loved that camera.
