Great for Video, Disappointing for Photos
PostedJuly 11, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I use the WD TV Live Streaming Media Player on my wired home network of Windows Vista and 7 computers, a WD My Book World Edition II NAS and a WD My Book Live Duo NAS. I connect it via HDMI to my Sony XBR HDTV at 1080p resolution. We use a combination of Norton and McAfee Antivirus and firewalls on our various computers. Likes: finds everything on the network effortlessly with no need to tweak firewalls, plays lots of media formats, fast, GUI is easy to use, small, quiet, runs cool, inexpensive, nice variety of internet services. Well thought out media player software features allow you to do just about everything you would want to do. Disappointment: Photos are displayed at a disappointingly low resolution compared to how they are displayed on my computer monitor or on the HDTV by my other streaming devices: a Kodak Theatre HD Player and a Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray disk player.
Pros:video streaming, photo and music media device, netflix youtube etc

Does not serve any purpose...
PostedMarch 14, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
I bought this product, thinking that I will not need my laptop to be connected to my TV. But this was a total wrong expectation. Here is the complete review points: 1. Lack of keyboard: It is so difficult to write any thing by using a remote and pressing each letter 2. Lack of good Resolution 3. Lack of any browser: I thought it will provide the complete replacement of laptop connectivity with TV but it was nothing more than a video player 4. You Tube Connectivity: This connectivity was there but it was too weak. Difficult browsing or search.
Overall it does not serve any purpose! I returned my product.

Great network addition
PostedFebruary 15, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros: My wife has MS and mobility has become an issue. I have most of our movies and music on our network system but I also had a lot of wires running around the house and it wasn't very user friendly so I was looking for a way to get our network to my wifes TV without all the mess. The WD TV LIVE turned out to be the answer. This little box with it's remote controler allowed me to stream all of the movies and music to my wifes TV with ease from our computer via our wireless network, in fact it does such a great job I bought 2 additional units for our other TV'S. The fact it allows you to connect to the internet for NetfliX, HULU, YouTube, facebook, Pandora just to mention a few dosen't hurt and my wife loves how easy it is to use. Cons: If any I would say it's a little tricky in the begining but once you figure out the system its a great addition to anyones network.
Pros:streaming music and videos from main computer to t

A great device
PostedFebruary 3, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros: The WD TV Live is super easy to use. Just plug everything in and its ready to go. The compact design is nice to look at or easy to hide. I love being able to stream directly to my TV without having to hook up a computer and in HD to boot.
Cons: I wish it could connect to my phone via bluetooth. It would be cool to just set my phone down near the WD TV Live and be able to view the videos and pictures I have taken while out and about.
Review: If you're looking for an easy way to stream content from the internet or to view your pictures and videos on your TV, the WD TV Live is a great choice. The ease of use and high quality output are bar none.

Awesome Media Player
PostedFebruary 2, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
This is an awesome product. The WiFi upgrade makes it very easy to connect to my network at home and watch my movies, playing nearly every movie format.
I also love the internet services provided with the product and the frequent firmware updates continue adding the newest and coolest apps. I especially like Pandora and Spotify is also really cool.
The remote is also much better on this new product and is identical to the WD TV Live Hub, which I also have and love.
Finally, I really like the user interface and I love how it can be customized, yet very easy to use. I love it!

Great product, lots of features, good price
PostedFebruary 1, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I don't have a game console and was getting tired of hooking up my laptop to my TV whenever I wanted to stream something through my home theater. This product delivers! I have used the WD live Hub before and found this just as easy to get acclimated to the interface. I use the Netflix, Facebook, Pandora, Youtube, Spotify and Accuweather app all the time and they all work flawlessly. I was glad when Western Digital released this as it is great for streaming and the price is very good compared to their other similar product with the internal storage (which is great, but for a user like myself, i didn't need internal storage).
Pros - Optical Audio port, HDMI, WiFi, multi-format support, integration with home network, Wireless USB Keyboard compatible, the remote is good. It even autocorrects when the audio is slightly off the video, my laptop doesn't even do that, I usually have to restart the movie when Netflix messes up.
Cons - None yet, I've had it set up for a few weeks now, will update if anything comes up.
Pros:music movies pictures, streaming

Dell@Stores WDTV
PostedFebruary 1, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I work with Dell@Stores which have been going up in Malls around the country. Recently we piloted the WDTV device with several of our sites that needed to be able to loop vidoes on their display screens.
Speaking from a support standpoint the devices were very easy to setup. Even walking our site reps through setting them up on the phone couldn't have been much easier.
We've had the WDTV device in our lab for going on 2 months now without any difficulties whatsoever.
We've used it to stream videos and photos from both USB devices such as memory keys and external hard drives as well as directly from computers with WiFi. What I really like though is being able stream services such as Netflicks and Hulu Plus over the internet.
I have the WDTV and can personal say it has great user interface, I found the setup a great experience this device all options were no more than 2-3 clicks and setup network, tv, home theather, and remote I really like this device and would recommend it to my family and friends.
Pros:streaming, photo, software, music

Fantastic!!!!!
PostedJanuary 31, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
This product is fantastic! I am sorry the poster before me was having issues. I have 2 of these and a WDTV Live HUB (with the 1TB of storage). I use these together as a whole home media player.
It uses XML for the WDTV Live Hub interface, so I found some sites to mod it and make movie posters. Now I have my entire movie collection on the main unit and the streaming units are the ones I have attached to the other TVs in my house. Two really great things. First, I can point these at the Llive Hub and they see the movies on that, so I can stream those anywhere in my house. Second, these solve the problem of having to run internet cables all over the house as they stream the movies wirelessly.
For a media hub solution it's fantastic. Between these and my desktop and laptop (pointed at these through my home network) I have my movie collection available no matter where I am in my house.

i love the wd tv live media player. it does everyt
PostedJanuary 29, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
it took me like 5 mins to set up. make sure you install all updates-took like maybe 15 mins.(it will download & install then turn off and back on again for each update) it streams netflix, hulu plus, youtube, pandora ect flawless on the hdtv. it plays your media from your pc too.just know you might have to fiddle w/ your network sharing options to get it to work 100%. it has built in wifi so it connected immediately to my devices. the first time you use it it may be very slow but the next time its alot faster. it has two usb ports so im using the front one for a wireless keyboard and the back for my external hard drive. note: the external hard drive slows the software down considerably until it has loaded all content. the interface is simple and clean w/ some customization options. i actually disconnected my direct tv after buying this-thats $80/mth! it plays almost all formats for video and audio. i love this little box. it has all the features i would ever need. only con i see is the remote. it would take forever to select which letter youre trying to type when you need to enter text(hence the wireless keyboard) hopes this helps you.

Product is extremely flawed (Requested Return)
PostedJanuary 14, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
I have had this product two days, and have already requested a return. The product seems to work okay at first, but then after a few movies - it states (Unable to play media, please see user manual for supported files) -even though it just played a few minutes ago. (Some times the sound even stops while watching NetFlix)
The concept is good - but I guess i will just stick with my PS3, and scrap this - (Do not buy unless you like being disappointed)
Pros:streaming video from network hard drive
