Poor QC

PostedSeptember 5, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
The Audio in port was too large for the jack sent with the device, also used aftermarket wiring with no change. The jack cannot make a good connection so sound will only come from one side at a time.
The mic sounds clear and crisp one minute and sounds like I'm in a can the next. I used the mic on both Vent and TeamSpeak.
The headset is comfortable, although a bit on the heavy side.
I love Razer products and this is the first time I've had a problem. I think I'll stick to Razer's wired headsets from now on.

Missing Cables

PostedAugust 2, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
the base unit needs 3.5mm cables to hook to the pc and the cables DO NOT come with the head set, so out of the box it can NOT hook to a pc.
Pros:pc head set

don't do it

PostedJuly 12, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
I purchased 2 headsets. Neither mic works, and sometime the sound even cuts out. They are very heavy. The only thing good about them is they make a nice fashion statement. Do not buy this product

Great multi-platform headset!!!

PostedJuly 13, 2011
Yes, I would recommend this product
This is one of the many headsets that I own. I own or have owned numerous gaming headsets from all of the major gaming companies from Astro Gaming to Turtle Beach as well as audiophile companies such as Sennheiser and AudioTechnica. I have tons of audio and gaming experience. The Razer Chimaera is an excellent entry level wireless headset that can be used on multiple gaming platforms even though it is marketed for the Xbox only. I currently use this headset for my PS3 because I don't utilize the chat function which the major drawback when using it with other consoles.
The "Pros" are great stereo sound stage that have excellent spacial and positioning capabilities which are key in FPS games such as Call of Duty. Excellent for movies as well.
The rechargeable batteries (which are included) are a huge plus so you don't burn cash on replacing batteries. You charge the headset on the base station and each charge is reported to last for 8hrs of gaming.
The limited wires are also a huge plus for those who do not want clutter. The only wires attached to the actual headset is the 3.5 to 3.5 chat cable you connect to your Xbox controller.
Excellent build quality and fit. Ive got a huge noggin and this thing fits perfectly and is easily adjustable. Fairly lightweight as well so there is no cause for fatigue after long hours of gaming.
The "Cons" are very minimal but unfortunately can be a deal breaker to some.
The biggest con to me is that the wireless frequency is on 2.4hrz which can cause issues if your gaming setup runs through a wireless router. It can and will cause issues with connectivity depending on strength of your router and ISP. A lot of other wireless gadgets run on a 2.4hrz frequency. Luckily I haven't experienced a bad enough problem even though I currently run DSL instead of cable.
Another con would be that it is only stereo sound as opposed to simulated surround sound so you aren't immersed in sound. For most people they wont notice the difference but when you are accustomed to the surround sound of Astros and other simulated surround sound gaming setups you will immediately notice the difference.
Overall at the price point you can go wrong with this headset. Razer makes high quality gaming peripherals and take pride in their products. I would highly recommend this headset to anyone looking for great sound but not wanting to break the bank.
Pros:Gaming, movies
