No, I do not recommend this product.
PROS... NONE
CONS... Does not work, is not PNP, is PADN, plug and do nothing.
Read a lot of negative Westurn Digital reviews, but did not believe this could be true.
It is.

What I needed, nothing more and nothing less

Yes, I would recommend this product
This hard drive is exactly what I expected and it suits my needs perfectly. It doesn't have any software on it but I didn't want any... I just hook it up to three different computers one at a time and drag-and-drop what I want to backup onto the drive. Simple.
You have to plug it into a wall outlet along with plugging in the usb cable to your computer or whatever you are attaching it too, but I like that too, makes me think that my data will be safer because the drive will always have all the power it needs.
No on/off switch, but like I said I just leave it plugged in to an outlet all or most of the time, and just unplug the usb connection when I don't need access to the drive from my computer.
It is relatively heavy and about the size of a thick hard cover book, but that's okay too because I never purchased this drive to be able to carry it around in my pocket, it's strictly for home use.
The top is a nice matte black, the sides are glossy, a nice looking unit. The electrical plug, usb port, and light are all on the back. The light therefore shines on my wall so I can see it working but not be annoyed by its brightness at all. Drive is silent as well, I never hear it, even when the house is quiet.
And the speed is easily good enough for me. When I can burn a movie onto it in a minute or less, that's good enough for me, no problem with the usb 2.0 at all.
So all in all, very satisfied with my purchase so far. Got it for a great sale price and it only took one day to arrive, so nothing bad to say about this 1 TB Western Digital 2.0 external portable hard drive at all.
Pros:storage of data

Excellent HD, Nice Price

I bought the Elements 1.0 TB USB 2.0 External hard drive to turn my Bell 6131 HD satellite receiver into a PVR. I hooked it up, and within minutes, I had a PVR receiver with over 1000 hours of non-HD recording time or 120 hours in HD. It works great and was much cheaper than buying the Bell (built-in) PVR receiver. Note, however, that only 1.0 TB or smaller drive sizes will work with Bell receivers. I made the mistake of first purchasing the 1.5 TB Elements external HD and found out the hard way that it would not work with my receiver. Fortunately, Dell has a great return policy and I was able to return the 1.5 TB model, no questions asked, so that I could order the 1.0 TB model. Delivery took only a few days. In the past few years, I have purchased a number of products from Dell and, overall, my experiences have been very good. Service is excellent and support, when needed, is above average.

WD External Hard drive

Yes, I would recommend this product
I purchased the Elements 1 TB external hard drive to use with my Bell 6131 HD receiver as a PVR. Just plugged it in and it works great. I also have a 1.5 TB My Book Essential that I use as a backup drive for my Insperon 1525.
Ordering from DEll is simple an fast, often the order is delivered to my door the next day.
What could be easier. I would recommend these products and Dell.
Pros:video, backup/storage

Would have been nice...

This product is really to use. Sets up in a flash, the only thing it is lacking is it's own software. You either have to use the old fashioned drag and drop method, or purchase a back up software to use. If you are just using this as an additional storage solution, you can't go wrong.
