Have used this successfully several times

PostedAugust 19, 2011
Yes, I would recommend this product
I have used this package several times, all successfully. Whenever I upgrade from XP to W7, I order the $20 PCmover Upgrade Assistant and it works almost flawlessly for me every time. Keep in mind there are some apps and devices that just won't work in W7 because the device drivers aren't there or you might have a 32 bit app and a 64 bit W7 OS. Here's what I believe was the key to my success. I use an external USB hard drive with enough disk space to accommodate the moving van data in the migration. Viola - it works. As a fall back, look at using Macrium Reflect - its free for XP. It makes an restorable image of your XP, so you can try again if necessary. I make an image for insurance - but have never had to use it. I don't know what issue the previous person had, but suspect he attempted an in-place migration. Use an external USB drive and you'll be amazed how well it works. Also, to get an idea on what will or won't migrate, use Microsoft's Windows 7 migration analyzer to get a list of what won't migration beforehand. I migrate people's PCs in my tech support business and I always order PCmover with Windows 7 OEM DVD. Works like a charm! If you're fretting about not having a USB hard drive handy, either borrow a friends or go buy one. They are available for $50 and well worth the investment. Use your FREE Macrium Reflect to make backups occassionally. You know you should be doing that anyway.
Pros:migration - update

PC Moved Bad Choice

PostedJuly 30, 2011
No, I do not recommend this product.
Dell Customer support is outstanding. However, Customer Support from PC Mover is kind of a D+. The Pc-Mover software is not a good choice from transferring data & Application from one PC to another. My intention was to avoid loading each application, do the upgrade on the software, do the settings, eliminate missing something and move the data. I had to re-install the PC from scratch (loading the operating system, drivers...). I wasted more than 7 hours on this task. Initially when I did the transfer with PC-Mover Outlook, Word.. and other applications would not work correctly. Even with a REPAIR option it did not solve the problem. Just keep all your data files in one directory, re-install the applications on the new software and set the settings and this will result in a safer and much more reliable method. PC-Mover respond was well sometimes it does not work well with Microsoft Appl. PC Mover is a waste of time. Don't buy it.
Pros:was not able to find ause for it
