Title:

The Best All-in-One Programmable Remote

PostedDecember 10, 2009
Yes, I would recommend this product
After several demos of the previous Harmony One model in various home theater retailers, I knew a lot about the 900 going in to this purchase. The results exceeded even those expectations. My remote is set to accommodate any of six video sources with a single button press. And that's not to say the remote simply turns on the selected devices for your chosen activity. For instance, for the "Watch TV" activity, my remote will turn on the TV, turn on the receiver, turn on the satellite box, set the TV input to HDMI 1, set the receiver input to CLB/DSS, and toggle the TV display mode to "16:9". For the "Watch My Videos" activity, my remote will select the Dell Studio Hybrid as the input source and toggle my TV display mode to "Just Scan" for true 1080p resolution.
Everything about the remote is configurable, right down to the button graphic and icon for the touch screen "soft" buttons you may choose to add for a given activity. (I added a "DVR" button to my "Watch TV" activity so I can call up recordings without switching remote modes.) Green features include configuring the remote to check that non-selected devices are turned off whenever an activity is selected.
At $399, the remote is a considerable investment, but with holiday discounts and perhaps a coupon code, this handy device is a steal for anything below that margin.
