Save yourself some frustration!

No, I do not recommend this product.
I purchased this device from Dell in December 2011 for use in cloning my notebook computer's disk for backup purposes. It is nicely constructed in a sturdy metal enclosure and is a useful combination of disk dock and USB hub. I used it once to clone my notebook and it seemed a bit flakey, but I eventually got a successful clone. I put the flakiness down to my inexperience with this particular device even though I have used an almost identical disk dock from a different manufacturer for several years. The second time I went to use it I spent several days trying to get a successful clone but the cloning process would abort anywhere from immediately after start to several hours into the process. After extensive troubleshooting I proved the disk dock was at fault. I called Dell and they pointed out that since the device was manufactured by Aluratek I would have to deal directly with Aluratek. I emailed Aluratek and they were not very keen to admit that there could be a problem but after I described the extensive troubleshooting process I had gone through they agreed to replace the dock. I mailed it to them (postage cost half what the dock is worth!) and there it sits. About two months have gone by since I mailed it and I am still without a working device. Emails to Aluratek produce an apologetic "We're busy" response.
I really wanted to like this device as it is such a potentially useful combination of disk dock and USB hub - but if it doesn't work reliably there is no point in having it. About the best you can say for this saga is that the device is inexpensive enough that writing it off as an unwise purchase isn't too painful. I should have cut my losses though, and tossed it into the trash rather than spending the money to mail it back to Aluratek for replacement.
By the way - If you should be unlucky enough to have one of these things note carefully that not all of the USB ports on the hub are functional as data ports. One only provides power for charging devices. This is stated in the fine print in the instructions but if you don't read the instructions in detail it would be easy to waste a lot of time trying to figure out why one of the USB ports doesn't work as expected. I would suggest that Aluratek label this port on the front of the device as "Power Only" in hard to miss lettering!

Does not work properly

No, I do not recommend this product.
Cannot detect the HDD I put in. I've tried a few. The USB ports work well but kinda expensive for a USB hub. No driver, no documentation, very hard to troubleshoot.

When I placed the order it was in stock. But it took 2 months before my shipment arrived. I bought it on sale so the wait was justifiable.
