USB Hard Drive Adapter Worked Great!

PostedDecember 10, 2010
Yes, I would recommend this product
My old Dell XPS computer had a fried motherboard, but I was mostly concerned with getting the information off the old internal hard drive, if it hadn't fried, too. I ordered this device in the hopes of getting the information off the old hard drive onto my new XPS 7100 with a minimum amount of difficulty. Well, it was easier than I thought. I removed the old hard drive, followed the instructions to connect it to the adapter and then hooked it up to my new computer through the USB. My new computer saw the old drive as just another drive and I was easily able to copy the files onto my new hard drive. I did not use the supplied Clone software. I didn't really want to clone it. For one thing, I don't quite understand what cloning the drive would have done to the existing information on my new hard drive. So, I just did the old drag and drop copy and it worked perfectly! I can recommend this device to anyone who needs to get data off of an IDE/PATA/SATA hard drive.

A great kit

PostedFebruary 25, 2010
Yes, I would recommend this product
I have many computers with Apricorn & Ghost installed
and cloning with the adapter is much easy than using Ghost
Apricorn software always clones in half the time of Ghost
I decided to buy this kit when I bought an older optiplex with an 2.5" Ide drive
I asked apricorn and they said the kit is a household license
I have several older comps and did not want to buy more software for them.
The software runs in dos and works fast, If Installed it takes around 30 minutes to clone
but in dos It,s as fast as 3 minutes to do a clone
The only thing I do not like is the usb since the older optiplex is not
backwards compatible it took several clones before it cloned correctly
The adapter is great on newer computers since you can do sata ide and laptop hard drives
The adapter works on the O,S without needing any extra drivers so you can use it to do a
backup to an extra drive or drives
So buy this kit you will be happy
Pros:clone, rescue old hard drives, backup

I am quite satisfied Overall. I love the fact that we are able to use this adapter for more than one drive at a time. We can use a 3.5 IDE and a 2.5 SATA at the same time. We can use a 2.5 IDE and a 2.5 SATA at the same time. The only thing that I would like to see in this design is; placing the 3.5 IDE where the 2.5 IDE is and vice versa, this would allow for the use of three drives simultaneously. As it is, we can NOT use a 3.5 IDE and A 2.5 IDE at the same time due to the fact that the power supply cord for the 3.5 IDE is in the way!
Pros:pc repair hobby, cloning is great, external hdd manager

The DriveWire works exactly as described and is just as easy. The only issue I ran into was attempting to run the EZ GIG II software as a basic user. On Vista, you must run the EZ GIG II software as administrator. It took approximately 1 hour to clone my original Dell Inspiron E1505 80GB drive. After the cloning was complete and I switched out the drives, my laptop booted right up to my desktop without any errors. All the Dell partitions including the hidden ones and MediaDirect were recreated on my new 500GB WD Scorpio drive. I highly recommend this product.

Piece of cake

Also, there should be a mention of using some kind of tool to remove the hard drive so as not to accidentally bend pins.
Pros:Easy installation of software Easy hook up to new hard drive Easy data transfer with all files, applications, etc. in tact
Cons:The only con, and it may be something I missed, is no warning on the drive wire package regarding being careful when removing any adapters, etc. from the new hard drive, where applicable, to prevent damaging the pins.

Saved my nearly lost files

PostedMay 5, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
Saved me a $1000 by not using Seagate's recovery services. I now have multiple backup in depth.
Pros:Simple and easy to use. Maxtor external USB HD failed to be recognized and made a clock like ticking sound. Pulled the basic 320 GB PATA133 HDD out and hooked it up to the drive wire. All the files were easily copied. Cloned the 80GB drive in my main Dell and made the guts of the external my new internal.
Cons:None.

Solved my problem

PostedFebruary 18, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros:The hard drive I removed from my old computer when I bought my new Dell had considerable data stored among five partitions. I bought a device that was supposed to enable me to access it thru a USB port, but my computer had great difficulty in finding it, making it necessary to cycle the hard drive on and off several times to finally make it display all the partitions. Then it was very unstable, seeming to regard the various partitions as individual removable drives. It would stop working in the middle of a data transfer and request that a new disc be inserted. This Apricorn unit worked right from the beginning, and makes my old hard drive useful again as an extra storage medium. An excellent product.
Cons:Having to connect the various elements "wired in space" instead of boxed in a single container is a bit cumbersome, but a minor problem compared to the usefulness of the device.

The only real problem i have with this item,is the fact the casing is made of plastic. When snaping the cords into place i thoght i was going to break it.
Pros:Price is not bad, wish i got it when it was on sale.Clones media direct with no problems at all,YEAAAAAA.Very easy to use and set up,not complicated or in compatable like most upgrade kits.Fits 2.5",3.5">SATA,PATA,IDE drives.
Cons:PSU cord too short, you need to be in a very small area to use.Did not get when it was on sale.

WOW nice and easy to transfer DATA

PostedAugust 15, 2007
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros:Love this little box. I was able to take a information off a PATA hard drive and transfer it to my new Dell with only SATA drives. . Its small except for the AC ADAPTER, but I guess that has to be HUGE for the power on 3.5" drives. No need to have an case just attach the drive PATA or SATA, 2.5" or 3.5" and go. I upgraded my dads dell notebook from the little 40GB it had to a 120GB and the EZ-GIG software was FANTASTIC!!! I used to use Norton Ghost but Apricorn EZ-GIG is much easier and faster. Just boot to the software on the disk on GO. If you have a drive sitting around that you took out of a computer a while back and want to review it... there is nothing better.
Cons:The AC adapter is HUGE.... A small pouch would be good with a handle so when I go to fix friend/parents computers I could carry this easy. I gave it 4 stars on performance for 1 good reason and 1 preference reason. The good reason is that a 3.5" drive when using SATA does not sit flush with the box. It was easy to fix by putting a piece of cardboard under the box and then connecting the drive. The other is I wish that it would connect 2 SATA drives (just a preference)

Fine product

Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros:I bought it to get to the photos of my cat, Brandy, that were on the old hard drive. I found it very easy to use and had no problem with getting them once I hooked everything up.
Cons:It can take some time to learn to use and you have to be careful with it. Although I was trying to copy photos, the first time I used it, I accidentally installed Windows 98 into the new computer and needless to say, the computer DID NOT like it at all. I had to reinstall everything and I'm still not sure that it has all the programs it came with.
