I just upgraded my 512 RAM @400MHz to 2GB RAM @800MHz. I wish I would have done this long ago. Huge performance increase. It used to take 20-40 seconds to load applications. Tried all the same apps all opened well under 10 seconds most within 5 seconds.
Advice - If doing the same upgrade I did, remove old RAM and add the new 2GB RAM in slots 1 and 3. Do not put the old RAM back in or it will perform and the slower 400 speed. I have a 32 bit so I opted to just add the 2GB instead of the 4GB since it will only utilize about 3GB of the RAM. 2GB was plenty and well worth it. Took me 5 minutes to install and turned on the PC and it immediately booted up then hit F1 as instructed....DONE!!!!

I had bought some cheaper memory for my Dell and had problems with blue screens and lockups. Thought I had a virus or malware and finally realized it might be the memory I had installed.
I bought some Dell memory to replace the cheap memory and this ended the problems I was having.
Thanks Dell, wish I would have bought this first.

Figuring out how to open the case was more difficult than adding new memory. A 2 minute conversation with the Dell representative managing my order was all it took to understand what I needed to do.
My only frustration was that somewhere in this process, I lost my connection to my wireless router. With no access to the internet, I had virtually no way to access re-installation information for my wireless connection since I couldn't find the original installation disk. But after a few hours of 'trial and error' I got it connected and my memory upgrade took off!!! LOVE IT!!!

I sorry I waited so long to up grade my memory. The part was delieverd on a few days and I was able to put it in without a phone call. I just printed the instructions from my dell manuel.My computer speed as never been better.

Dimension 8400-Upgrade from original 1GB.Also upgraded graphics card & hard drive) Reviewed online Dim 8400 Service manual for Memory Card replacement. Followed process, worked immediately. There are 4 slots, they have a specific order, moved the 2 original 512 cards to slots 2&4, put the new cards in slots 1&3 per manual. Took 5 minutes, vacuumed out the case while I was at it, started up and new memory was immediately recognized. Noticed improvement in speed when running multiple apps, like IE and security scan at same time. Good and reasonably cheap upgrade that brings a very nice PC up to current standards.(and it it runs cooler now with the recent internal vacuuming!)

My D-8400 Desktop was working very slow so I decided to upgrade the Memory from 1GB to 3GB.. What a great upgrade, computer is working a lot faster so I can use this computer for another couple of years before getting a new PC..I think this a very smart upgrade. also, it was super easy to instal it

Like others my Dimension 8400 PC was seeming slow and showing high levels of memory use on the Task/Performance report. Ordered and installed the 2GB expansion to the installed 1GB of memory and it is notably faster. Installation was simple, biggest task just uncabling the PC. Highly recommend expanding any 8400 to 3 or 4 GB.

My five year old 8400 appeared to be in excellent condition but was running so sluggishly that I was actually shopping for a new computer. I stumbled upon the memory upgrades at Dell.com and decided to risk $60 on 2 gigs of ram to replace the original 512 modules on the off chance that it might actually help. Best $60 spent in a long time. The improvement was so impressive I immediately ordered a second set and I am thrilled with the speed and performance of this mature PC. Installation was a breeze and the computer started back up without missing a beat. Another simple but significant improvement was downloading Internet Explorer 8. So if you're running a Dimension 8400 with less than 2 gigs of ram and without IE8, you're a pendejo.

My dell pc (dementions 8400) is 4 years old and I was seeing a degradation of performance so I checked the dell upgrade web page for my pc and it suggested the 2 GB memory upgrade. Price was good so I purchased the additional memory and was able to install without difficulty and the added memory has improved my systems performance.

Upgrading the memory from 512MB to 4GB in our 4 yr old Dell Dimension 8400 has significantly improved performance and lengthened the useful life of our family computer. The install went smoothly and, for a bonus, I also cleared (with compressed air) the accumulated dust from inside the computer case and around the fan.

Upgraded memory from 1GB to 4GB. Considerable increase in speed in many applications, also background tasks are much more responsive.
I have read other reviews explaining installation and startup problems, but the many upgrades I have done using Dell products have resulted in NO problems. Perhaps reading the included instructions, watching the videos and reviewing the user manual would help.

Pretty basic deal, snap and go, the computer autorecognized it, and the instructions included were easy to understand and follow. I think I have more RAM than my computer can even use now, but it's definitely helped a bit on bootup and running multiple programs.
