Wireless 1520

PostedFebruary 12, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
Bought this card to replace Intel Link 5100 in a Studio 15 Laptop. For some reason it stopped working and would not connect to my wireless router. Hardwire connection worked fine and 3 other PC's in the home were connecting with no issues.
Easy install with a fair price. Couldn't ask for a better combination. Just had to remove bottom cover and pull out the non working adapter and plug in the new 1520.
Only problem I had was the drivers and utilities disk sent with the new card would not load on my system, message stated my system did not support the software and would not load from the disk.
Had to go the Dell website and download the software. System is up and working with no issues at this time.

No Windows 8 driver

PostedDecember 8, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
This card came in my Dell Inspiron 1764. It was very good for its time, almost 3 years ago. I upgraded to Windows 8 which found and installed drivers for almost everything except this card. I found my Wi-Fi connection extremely slow. Speed tests showed that I could upload at 3mbs but only download at 2. I downloaded the Windows 7 driver and manually installed it (Windows 8 would not let it install since it was not designed for Windows 8.) After that it worked pretty well.

Wi-Fi replacement card did not work

PostedAugust 15, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
My "new" Dell laptop, purchased April 2011, quit functioning with a hardware failure. It was determined that we needed a new wi-fi card. We placed the order for the replacement part for a total cost of about $50.00. It arrived, our computer tech installed it and the part did not work. We're out of pocket for a part that does not work at all. We have discontinued use of our Dell laptop.

The 1520 Wireless card isnt made for speed and I seem to have alot of issues with it. I bought an Intel 5200N And it really made a differance.

Chip Wlan or Mini Wireless Card

PostedMarch 14, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
I think that Dell did not do them selves any favors by putting in these wlan mini cards into there High end XPS 8300 desktop Computers, this is something that would be used in a laptop. I first had the 1501 and used my gift (75.00) card to purchase the 1520 not releasing that it was a mini pile of junk. I tossed both of them in the trash. I installed a Asus N15 daul anntenna 300 speed wirless card. Now I pick up my DSL Router/Modem with 40 mgs and get much much better preformance, and I am please with how fast web pages now load. I could go on about other internal parts that Dell puts in there high end XPS 8300 that shouldn't even be there. I have replaced my video card, my audio card, the wirless card and my next replacement is going to be the low power supply of 460 watts and going to a 750 watt power supply. I think the only good items that were installed in this computer was the intel processor (CPU) the cord I7, the 12 gigs of ram that has 1333 speed the ddr3 and maybe the mother board, since I do not know who made the mother board. After the power supply is put in I will have a power house computer, instead of what I would call an over priced pile of junk. I have been a very loyal Dell person. I have had many Dells. I just had my XPS 410 fixed with a new hard drive and had a 500 watt power supply put in it. I bought the 8300 do to the 410 had quit working. Now I have two very nice computers. The XPS 410 has a 20 inch monitor and the 8300 has an 24 inch ultra bright, which now displays a much better picture after removing the Nvidia Geforce GT 545 and replacing it with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 ti with 2 gigs of memory and boy does my display have a much, much better picture. This could be my last Dell. I am thinking about having a custom built high end computer built if I ever need a new one before I die. I am not a gamer but I do like a very fast computer with much higher end internal componets than Dell supplies for one who builds there own computer. Wake up Dell and make people proud to own a Dell computer instead of having to replace almost every thing inside to make it a computer that can provide excellent preformance.
Plus this is hard for me to say because I am very much against the outsourcing of US jobs, but those folks in India who take care of me with my XPS 8300 do an excellent job, even better when Dell only had US Techs. This is the only high point in my recent purchase of a so called high end Dell Computer.

THis is a laptop card and you need a kit to convert it to the desktop. Use 8VP82 instead.

Wireless 1520

Upgraded Dell Wireless Card to DW 1520 from a DW 1501 in a Studio 1749 laptop. Huge difference, should have ordered the laptop with this card at the beginning. This card connects at 300 Mbps while the other connected at 72Mbps. Did have issue with the software install and manually installed the new Wireless Card Driver. Hint: download the new Wireless Card Driver BEFORE removing the old Wireless Card.

Works but,...

PostedOctober 13, 2011
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros:
1. Pricing was fair.
2. Was relatively easy to hook up.
3. It works.
Cons:
1. Even though service tag was used to insure I received the correct product for my system, the install media / CD-ROM that shipped with the device was not compatible with my operating system. Had to search the net to locate the proper driver. Pretty basic thing to get wrong, considering they sold it to me in the first place.

Great little card

My wife just updated to a laptop with 'n' netword. My laptop still ran b/g. This little card brought mine upto speed, even though mine is a Studio 1737. As I understand, two separate network cards (one b/g - the other b/g/n) can conflict(?). Easy to install, using driver from Dell's website.

Great WLAN card for select dell systems Plus

PostedAugust 6, 2011
Yes, I would recommend this product
I wanted to upgrade my Inspiron 1545 from just 802.11g to 802.11g/n and then I saw the 1520 which also included 802.11a. I actully missed the fact that my system was not on the list of the systems this card was intended for. Fortunatly, the driver package included a driver for my original "g" card, so installing the driver package with the original card still in place also added the driver for the 1520 to the driver pool. Then when I installed the 1520, Windows saw that it had a driver for the card and used it.
The 1520 works very well and I have had no problems with it. The 1520 seems to have better range than my original WLAN card and with the other standards on it, the 1520 provides greater flexability.
Pros:home and travel wifi use
