the hard drive was easy to install but you need to have screws and a stata cable that does not come with the new hard drive.

Stay Away From the Samsung/Dell 1TB Drive
PostedJune 13, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
Word of warning on the Samsung hard drive that comes with the Dell XPS 8100. This drive just up and quit at 21 months after purchase. Researching on the Internet indicates there is a problem with the circuit cards on the hard drives and they will not power up. Samsung has merged with Seagate, but since this is an OEM Installed drive, they send you to Dell for support. The hard drive should have a 36 month warranty, but Dell does not care. Their solution is to buy another one from them. Because this hard drive has a design flaw, I have a boat anchor with Dell on the label. Look up Samsung hard drive model HD103SJ on the internet and see what types of discussions you find about its failures.

Good hard drive

I bought this hard drive a couple of months ago after getting a virus on my computer. After removing the virus from my system there were still numerous problems with some of my programs running correctly.
I bought this hard drive right after making sure it was compatible with my Dell desktop. It only took about 5 minutes to install. Just a couple of screws and plug in the new hard drive.
The only problem I had was when it was time to install all the drivers again on my computer. Most of the drivers that Dell has listed for my computer are very old. The video driver that Dell had listed on their website was over 3 years old. I could tell right away after I loaded the driver that my desktop icons looked different. Finally after a few different steps by technical support I was given the most recent video driver. Now my computer is working great!
If Dell updated their drivers more often it would make things a lot easier on its customers.

Install went smoothly (recommend reading up on Disc Management before beginning). Remember to tag the contoller cables so you hook up the existing drive(s) correctly when adding your new drive, which I did not. The drive runs flawlessly, is fast and has low overhead. Excellent experience at a low cost for this conveniently fast and inexpensive memory.

1 TB 7200 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive

Awesome hard drive! The only thing that Dell should do is let buyers know that no ATA cables come with the actual hard drive. I was all stoked when the hard drive arrived and wanted to install it that very moment. After opening the box I was shocked to find no cables to actually install the drive with, lame. So, since I wanted to hook it up right away I had to go to a local computer store and purchase the ATA cable, which if Dell would of let consumers know before hand they could have made more $ instead of buyers having to purchase cables elsewhere. *Marketing error.
