It turns out that with inadequate wattage these Alienware laptops automatically move to a low power state. This essentially means that both the CPU and GPU are throttled way back and the battery will not charge. My 240w Dell power adaptor died so I bought a off-the-shelf adaptor that was supposed to be compatible with Dell laptops. The adaptor fit and worked - to a point. The batter would not charge and the performance was terrible. My Windows Experience Index with this 58w adaptor was down to 3.1 (due the GPU; the CPU was down to 3.4). I decided to skip the 240 watt adaptor and go for the 330 Watt AC Adapter for Dell Alienware X51 Desktop / M18X Laptop mostly because having too much power is not a bad thing (at least for performance) in the computer world and it leaves me some headroom if I want to upgrade my GPU later; plus the price was the same. My WEI improved to 7.1 after plugging in this power adapter. Highly recommended..
Pros:adequate power - it won't leave you short.
Cons:bulky. but that's expected

Title:
Good for what it is, but heavy

Yes, I would recommend this product
The power brick for the m18x like the laptop itself is not a small nor light device. It is great for what it does, but is still pretty heavy and bulky when you need to tote it around.
Pros:traveling
