kind of disappointed
PostedJune 18, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
I bought this monitor a week ago, counting only on reviews i read on your dell web page and on the internet. Well i must say im kind of disappointed with that particular model(im quite happy with my other Dell products though). The main problem here: it's way too bright! It causes me headaches and eye strain. Even with brightness turned down all the way to 0 it's still really, really bright! It's impossible to use this monitor in a dark room - without a lightening. Other than that - i found that the white color is kinda blurry.. i dont know if it's just me? But im currently using 3-4 TN displays at work and home and have no such problems whatsoever. I believe the main problem is with the W-LED backlighting .. if i have to choose again i would go with the 2311.
Pros:great stand, matte, ips
Cons:very bright, blurry white, w-led

No, I do not recommend this product.
Isn't one big feature of DisplayPort that it carries video AND audio?
What's the point of this if the monitor doesn't have an audio out connector? I have the Dell sound bar attached and it is nice, but it would be nicer if I didn't have to run a cable back to my CPU.
Response from Dell.comBy DonaldDforDell, Customer Reviews, June 11, 2013
Hello CustomerfromSeattle,
That is an excellent point! Why is it, that Monitor manufacturers support DP and HDMI, yet they do not output their sound? It is because external speakers are the norm, while sound bars are becoming more and more prevalent. I would suggest sharing your ideas on Ideastorm.com. This is a great place to have your ideas heard and affect what Dell products we ship.

Great monitor...almost there!
PostedMarch 25, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
I really like this monitor, however compared to an Acer monitor I plugged side-by-side, Dell color spectrum is just not comparable. Acer has richer colors. Tried adjustments and calibration, nothing helped (Mac Mini, PC). Dell seem to have more blue whereas Acer does show nice green and blue gradients and better depth.
HDMI would have been a plus, but my guess is lack of it saved me another $10 or so, so I am not complaining too much.
Monitor has USB ports. It would have been nice if the ports were front or side facing for easy access.
I actually like the 'excessive" brightness as some put it. I'd rather have excessive brightness than another dull Dell monitor I have that is very dim.

Cons:color accuracy

Great Color and Resolution
PostedFebruary 21, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
I hung on to my old CRT Monitor for years, mostly because it had such rich color and beautiful resolution. When it finally died recently, i ordered and received a laptop. I got it and spent 2 days trying to adjust contrast/resolution and color to no avail. I saw this monitor at the store and came home to read reviews. I am extremely picky about color and find most monitors to be a little too "blue" and have high standards for richness. I received this monitor and didn't have to do any adjusting, the colors are beautiful and accurate. If you need something for photo editing or design work, this monitor is a great deal, I love it.

Review 6 for UltraSharp U2312HM 23-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Just got the monitor setup and so far really like it. Other than the normal stuff like surfing the internet, e-mail etc. I do weddings for friends and family and a few paid jobs, so that is what I bought this monitor for, photography. I had a Dell 23 inch monitor before this, which I thought it was nice, but it was no comparison to this monitor when it comes to photo editing. My FXS simulator looks great also and I see no problem with the 8ms response time. There are two things I do see and that is. There is a small led bleed in the upper left hand corner, but is only noticeable when looking right at it. The other is the pixals can be seen when setting too close, that is not much of a problem because I never set too close anyway. It should only get better once I get my graphics card in sync with the monitor. Over all this is a excellent monitor.
Pros:the stand and the height and angles you can get
Cons:other than the slight led bleed nothing.

Nice monitor with strange glitch with macbook pro retina
PostedFebruary 9, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
Hello,
I just got this monitor. Plugged it in and loved it right away. I was worried it would be blurry in comparison to my macbook pro retina, but it's really sharp and the height adjustable feature is wonderful.
My problem with the monitor is the way it affects the mp3 icons on my home screen.
The mp3s flash for about 10-15 seconds on my homescreen each time I move the mouse between screens. It' s very annoying!
It seems like a very strange glitch, but it is definitely related to the monitor - it didn't happen before i plugged it in.
Any way, I hope someone will come up with some sort of solution to this problem.
Otherwise a great monitor.

Pros: Excellent ergonomics. Sharp picture and color. Cons: No HDMI. Very bright. Excessive backlight bleed even at 25% brightness.
Would I buy again? Yes. Would I recommend to someone else? Yes, but not if you are in the habit of using your computer in a dark room - the backlight bleed is very noticeable.

Really Good, Really Inexpensive Monitor
PostedDecember 21, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I ordered this monitor for its very low price and its promise of good image quality. I was not disappointed.
Out of the box it was bright! Oh my, it was bright! After dialing the brightness down to about 20%, I found that a Photoshop image of one of my photographs looked close enough to a printed image hanging on the wall. I know that the color will be fine.
My standards are high. I normally work with a higher-priced color-calibrated monitor. When I finally get a chance to calibrate this monitor I know that it will be fabulous.
There are no Mac drivers for this monitor, which means that some of the functionality is not available. You can't rotate the monitor to Portrait mode. This doesn't trouble me.
When I called support to find out if there are Mac drivers, I found support to be a little lame. It took two guys far too long to tell that Mac drivers are just not available.
So, if you're looking for really good value, I would recommend this monitor.
This monitor does not have a service tag, so I am not sure that this will get posted.
Pros:photo editing, general computer use

DELL UltraSharp U2312HM - highly recommended
PostedNovember 9, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I decided on this model after researching specs and reviews. I wanted the best 'bang for your buck' value, not necessarily wanting to spend $800 to get the best one ever. I'm very satisfied with this model, it has exceeded my expectations. PROS: - excellent value and performance with IPS panel - LED backlighting (reliable and low energy use) - great colours, contrast, wide viewing angles - excellent design of stand - fit my Dell soundbar from my previous 4 year old monitor perfectly! - after performing a calibration with my Spyder Elite Pro, there were no discernible differences viewing the "before/after" screens! which means factory calibration was very good. I need to know it is properly calibrated so I can trust my photo editing results before public distribution. - packaging was great: monitor floats on styrofoam and cardboard box has handle on top - complete assortment of cables: power, VGA, DVI, and USB. Nothing extra to buy - excellent performance (no discernible lag or screen smear) when playing various games so far. - convenient USB ports, two on the left side, and two on the bottom. Full power is available to drive your portable hard drives.
CONS: - not much I can think of really, maybe having a HDMI input would come in handy.
As long as you know what to expect from this monitor, you should be very pleased with this purchase. Highly recommended for sure.
Pros:photo and video editing, Gaming, general web browsing, word processing spreadsheets

Two Things Holding It Back
PostedSeptember 19, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
I needed a new monitor to accompany my 15" macbook pro while at home. After reading glowing reviews of this particular IPS screen I pulled the trigger (purchased directly from Dell). After 2 weeks with the monitor I have decided to return it. More on that later.
I'll begin with the pros:
- Accurate colors (just as good as the 2011 macbook pro 15 screen if not a bit better) - Wide viewing angle (no yellowing or change in contrast when viewing from different angles) - Excellent on screen menu system (very easy to use, most other brands have terrible screen UI) - Superb ergonomics (buttons easily accessible on front of display, tilts and adjusts with ease) - Best monitor stand I've ever encountered (totally stable, rotates 90 deg for portrait)
The cons: - Anti-glare hard coat. This is the monitor's achilles heel. It is almost unnoticeable when you're viewing movies or when the majority of the colors on the screen are dark. However, if the background is a solid light color (white, gray, etc.) there is a terrible haze. It gives you the impression that there is a layer of oil or filth on the screen. Most websites and programs use a solid white background. I could not get used to it - The brightness. The minimum brightness is about as bright as my macbook pro's maximum brightness. You can reduce the contrast but then you lose color accuracy. It's a no win situation. The only way I could live with this level of brightness is if I were in a terribly bright setting 24/7. - No HDMI. Granted the macbook doesn't have an HDMI output, but everybody doing external output owns a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter. It does have a displayport input, but they don't include the necessary cable. You'll need to spend an extra $10 to get it.
If you can live with the aggressive anti-glare and high minimum brightness, this is an excellent monitor. If you're sensitive to screen clarity and light output like I am, it's probably worth skipping this and doing some more research.
Pros:engineering, general use

No, I do not recommend this product.
It's definatly not a good monitor for gaming (racing), edge backlit isn't that good either.
My biggest gripe is that I can see the pixels if I'm closer than 23", yup the bigger the screen the further you need to be from it.
My regret is I didn't get the 21.5 screen with a smaller pixel pitch (like the TN 21.5 that I have also).
I'm not impressed with my first IPS experience maybe because it's an E-IPS.

Nice Screens, Uneven Tint on 1
PostedJuly 26, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I purchased two of these screens for my home office. I work with motion graphics and other multimedia production tasks.
These screens look great side to side. I was worried about the banding issues on e-IPS screens but so far this hasn't been a big deal, although I can notice tiny artifacts if I look really close at certain kinds of detail. For my work this is not a problem but if I were doing highly critical color correction or something it might be, but then I'd probably be working with >$1000 10 bit monitors at that point.
The one thing that did bother me was the color consistency of one of these monitors which has a very slight yellowish tint on the left side. When I did research I found out that Dell does not guarantee the color continuity of these monitors beyond a very specific center circle. I guess it's the price to be paid for using cheaper IPS panels. I have heard that they will allow certain exchanges for these issues but that it's somewhat of a lottery. Since this issue was on my right screen the color discontinuity was very noticeable. I switched that monitor to the left side and since then the issue does not really bother me as much. As my tint was somewhat minor I've decided it's liveable for now, but I've heard horror stories of worse tints. In most of these stories Dell was willing to work with the customer but a couple times the customer got another faulty/tinted monitor in the exchange.

I wanted to purchase an IPS monitor for a very long time. I am very particular when it comes to my electronics. The U2312HM monitor was perfect.
The first few features are absolutely required and self explanitory: 1. Clear display 2. Bright colors 3. Wide viewing angles 4. Affordable
As a bonus: 4. Great service - I was updated on the status of the order on every step. I received followup calls to ensure I was satisfied. 5. Thin bezels - This was the icing on the cake. The bezels size and form factor made it an easy choice to use for surround gaming. The bezels were thin enough that the 3 monitors look seamless.
I would definitely purchase Dell monitors again. Thank you for making a wonderful product.
