Thanks for allowing the product to be given written reviews and having them posted for buyers to read. I agree with others' posting that the battery works. I have decided to only use the battery as needed when away from home or no outlet available. I looked at other off-label batteries for a lower price but many buyers indicated they did not work.

Yes, I would recommend this product
Well, it does its job which is to give power to my laptop. Like the other reviewers, I had browsed around looking for cheaper batteries but ultimately decided to spend more at the Dell site because I'd rather be safe than sorry and I knew at least the battery wouldn't be dead when it arrived.
Overall, I am pleased with it. It charges up quickly and gives ~4 hours of power to my computer. Yes it is a little bulky, it sticks out more than I would like, but hey that's life. Wish it was cheaper.

This battery runs longer on a full charge than my previous battery when brand new. It also runs cooler than my previous battery. It is a fair bit larger--it sticks out the back end of the laptop.

I received a message that my battery needed replacing because it wouldn't take a charge anymore. Like other reviewers I checked out other websites and found cheaper batteries but customers did not rate them very well. I ordered from Dell and the battery was here in 2 days and works perfectly.

At first I thought of shopping around for a replacement battery for my Dell Inspiron 1520 from a website offering it at a fraction of the cost of this battery.Then I realized that I can shop with confidence at the Dell website. The Dell 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium-ion Primary battery charges fast, and lasts long. I don't see any problem with the battery slightly protruding. The laptop still fits in the case. Thanks to this battery my laptop is back to life after an extended period of inactivity. I really got what I paid for. I highly recommend this product. Two enthusiastic thumbs up and thank you for the fast, efficient professional service.

Good packaging, foolproof installation. When I first put this battery in, I was a little bummed because it was so much larger than the battery I'd originally had; it sticks out the back of my already-behemoth 17-inch laptop. However, since I have a 10-inch netbook and tend to leave the big computer at home when traveling anyway, it's okay. If I ever take it on the road it might be a problem because it's already difficult to tote the 17in laptop around due to weight and size. Still, the battery works, has a decent life, and I can unplug my laptop without the whole machine shutting down, which is a huge bonus. I'm in love with my computer again.

Yes, this battery works. It provides me with about 2 to 4 hours of unplugged time depending on my use and recharges very quickly, less than an hour. On my Vostro 1500, I can change it one handed with the help of a table, chair or lap, useful at the airport.

This battery, when fully charged, gives you about 3 hours of usage time when the Laptop is set to the High Performance option, which is probably good on a laptop that is about 4 years old. It is my personal opinion though that the price of the battery is too high.
As this was a replacement battery, I would have liked for Dell to send a return shipping label for the old battery so that it could be recycled by them.

We used our old battery until the laptop went to sleep as soon as the AC power adapter was unplugged. It lasted about 3 years. It's a shame these loose there capacity but I suppose you can't really get around it with any of the laptop batteries.

Replaced orginal battery. This one lasts much longer then the one that came with the computer. Sticks out behind the back and is a problem getting in backpack or computer bag. I use the dead battery for transport. I use this computer at home and as a back up at work. It gets alot of use and longer battery life is a big plus.

The original battery in my Inspiron 1720 lasted for three years, which I thought was pretty satisfactory. The $155.99 cost to replace it almost prompted me to buy one of the smaller new laptops instead(which I didn't really want to do) at this time)use this 2007 model laptop a few more years, I'll be happy.

This battery lasted 2 or 3 years before it needed to be replaced. And it still was giving me about 45 minutes. Brand new I can get 2.5-3 hrs out of it. So this is my second battery. Great!

I bought my laptop about two years ago and am looking to replace my 85Wh already. I also have problems with the power cord overheating to the point that it is too hot to touch! When I went to replace the cord the first time I was told it was my battery that needed replacing after one year. I chose to just get another power cord anyway since the life was still long enough for what I do.
So after two years I am on my third power cord and am now looking to replace the battery and possibly the cord again since #3 is now overheating. If an extended warranty is available I suggest you get is since their products, the power cord under a year and battery for less than two years, don’t last as long as you think they would.

Works great, lasts a ton longer than the 6 cell, It does stick out the back 3/4" but it doesn't bother me. Yes, it does cost $155.00 but look at as $10.00 a month and its seems like a steal to me. Buy it.

No, I do not recommend this product.
Dell should be embarrassed to sell laptops for which the batteries have to be replaced after 2 years of use. And then charge $155 plus tax for a replacement battery. I have had many laptops in my career and have never had to replace a battery until owning this Dell Inspiron 1720. I won't buy another Dell until battery life is rated as "excellent" by the consensus of user reviews.

I recently purchased a 85 WHr 9-Cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery for my Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop. What an awesome power supply tool. I really enjoy the Dell products I've purchased because of their quality and durability. In comparison to other companies, I've found Dell to be consistant with quality and durability in its products and also great prices. The opportunity cost of my decision to choose Dell products over other firms in the long run has been worth the investment.
