Title: Dell's nailed it. (Review after 6 months of ownership)
PostedSeptember 28, 2014
Yes, I would recommend this product
Impeccable material selection, design and build quality. It's thin but rigid and noticeably smaller than your average 13inch ultrabook. Such engineering perfection and attention to detail can only be experienced in my opinion. Get your hands on one at a nearby store or something and see what I mean. Seriously.
The screen is flawless in every way, brightness, contrast etc. Full HD on a 13 inch laptop really hits the visual sweet spot, for day-to-day usage as much as watching videos.
The speakers are pretty good too. I have no idea where they are because they aren't visible, but the sound just comes at you from pretty much the ENTIRE Keyboard area).
Performance - Excellent battery life, amazing boot speeds, i never have to wait for a thing..it's always responsive and does what I tell it to, when I tell it to.
To summarize, if my review doesn't cover an aspect of the laptop that you were expecting to hear about, it's probably because it excels in that aspect and I haven't had a reason to bring it up. I'm personally very impressed that dell has managed to make such an aesthetically pleasing design with no performance compromises whatsoever. It's perfect for any university student looking for a 13 inch "ultrabook".
If your laptop is not an "ultrabook" or is over 3 years old, seriously look into getting one of these, because you're most likely missing out. Minor things like the absence of any fan sound itself is a revelation, it is SILENT.

Title: Whistles like a cheap dimmer switch

No, I do not recommend this product.
A lovely laptop let down by electrical noise.
There is a long thread on the Dell web-site, and nothing has been done to resolve the issue since the laptop launched.
Listen to one in a quiet room before buying!
Pros:nice screen, lightweight
Cons:electrical noise

No, I do not recommend this product.
I bought this product a year and 9 months ago. It looked very well finished, and for sometime it ran smooth. However, shorty after that problems just built up.
It was very disappointing and frustrating as many of them appeared once the warranty expired...
It is my first and probably last Dell laptop I buy.
There are the problems. I attach pictures too:
- The screen has a spot brighter than the rest. It is only noted if the background is light, but it is quite annoying once you know it is there.
- The fan is crazy. It turns on when it does not make sense and does not stop. And it does not start when it needs to. I have read many comments from more people having this problem with the older edition, but I thought it was fixed. It was not my case.
- As a consequence of above, the laptop gets quite hot easily. The nice finished I talked about turned into melted surfaces and corners.
- WiFI is not reliable. I have had many problems with WIFI from the beginning, but they got worst after the warranty expired. It disconnects and I have to reboot the laptop in order to get it working again. Nothing else fixes it. Again, I am not the only one out there with this problem. I am writing this review by USB Tethering with my mobile right now.

Title: Monitor glitches + sluggish performance = poor value for the money
PostedDecember 16, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
I owned an XPS 15, purchased in late 2011, and it was by far the best laptop I have ever owned. Incredible multi-tasker, fast, great graphics, amazing sound. I used that laptop primarily for photo editing, and it was always fast, painless. When I needed to replace it, I was looking for something slightly smaller/lighter, but with the same grade-A performance.
I was sorely disappointed by the new XPS 13. The monitor was glitchy from the beginning - fading from bright to dark and from cool to warm tones every few minutes (hours with Dell support didn't fix this); sluggish start; slow multi-tasking; uploading and editing images in Lightroom was painfully slow. Having three applications open at once (e.g. web browser, Word, Lightroom) caused infuriating delays.
More minor cons: This version comes with fewer ports (no SD, no CD/DVD drive) and the amazing inset speaker system is gone.
Pros: Incredibly lightweight; beautiful graphics; high-quality construction; sleek design; long battery life.
I was shocked at the problems I had with this laptop considering the cost and past experience with this line. I had to return it - back to the drawing board looking for a replacement.
Pros:lightweight, graphics, battery life
Cons:monitor issues, poor multi-tasking, lack of media ports

Title: Love this laptop
PostedDecember 4, 2014
Yes, I would recommend this product
I bought the midlevel version of this machine, the i5 chipset and the 128GB SSD drive. Windows 8.1 is pretty big, so it takes up a lot of hard drive space, as does the 8GB swap file, and the restoration parititons, and so on.
The usable disk space gets eaten up quickly, especially if you need to run VMs.
So - I would actually recommend buying the larger HD (256Gb).
In my case, I went out and bought a Samsung MSata 500GB drive, and also bought the T5 screwdriver, and some disk cloning software, and over a weekend I cloned the 128Gb drive to the new drive, watched a video on how to install a new drive, and it was really quite painless.
I know a lot of people love macbook airs or pros - but I have to say that this machine rocks and can hold its own. And it's upgradeable in a way that the macbook pros, from what I can tell, are not.
Finally, I bought the USB 3.0 port replicator. It's not the most ergonomic or beautiful accessory, but it works for powering multiple external monitors, which is pretty great.
All in - this is the best laptop I've ever owned.
Battery life is ridiculously good. Screen quality is nice.
The one draw back that I don't like is that the screen actually has too small a bezel around it at the base, so the bottom of the screen is only 1/2 inch to an inch from the keyboard.
That coupled with the fact that the recline angle is less than ideal means your viewing angle on the screen can sometimes be a little uncomfortable.
Owning two dell laptops that served me well for many years I bought the XPS 13 - only to regret it terribly, staring from the first week. The backlight bleeding and electronic high-pitched noise from behind the keyboard were there from day-1. Replacing the screen (free in the second week) did no good - as the new screen also had backlight bleeding. Not 7 months later, the matrix in the screen breaks, while opening the laptop screen from sleep. The glass has no scratch at the front but the screen is unusable. Woefully the technical service takes 3 days to inform me that this is not covered by my warranty - well I am the fool to buy this expensive piece of junk! The apathy of the customer service and the poor hardware quality of this pricey ultra book - costs Dell at least one customer.
Pros:comes with linux too, good looks
Cons:screen has backlight bleeding + fragile, high-pitched noise behind key board, bad customer sevice for non-business customers, poor hardware quality overall

Title: Very disappointing
PostedNovember 23, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
I spent about 6 months researching computers and finally, finally, settled on the touch XPS 13. My first Dell.
It was nice and pretty out of the box. I didn't care for its keyboard but whatever.
Opening up a web page would take between 35 seconds to 1 minute; yes, I timed it. I thought it was my internet connections at home. Tried it in my office, same problem.
Finally gave up, called Dell and they ran some kind of diagnostic by clicking F4 or something similar when the computer restart. Was told to let it finish and then go back online. Same issue; took forever to open a web page. Dell called me back and I said it takes a long time to open a a web page. I was informed that my computer had malware.
Because I spent so much money on the computer and because I had spent so much time researching different computers with different configurations, I was so disappointed that the one I got was a bad one. Plus, it did heat up like an oven; wow, I really didn't like that. And, it did have the noise that others seems to complain. I was not aware of that before buying it, but it can drive you pretty crazy when you are working and all you hear is a ewewweeeeee sound--like a soda bottle cap that is slightly open.
A complete waste of time.
I did opt to return it. What's the point of having a brand new computer from the box with malware? Come on Dell!!!
Pretty sure will never buy a Dell ever again. Still using my old computer.
