Title: Loved it at first, now not so sure.
PostedJuly 3, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
I bought this laptop as my very first laptop, and I loved it. I was getting ready to go off to college and it had everything I needed. A webcam, space, could play my games, good wifi connection, the works!
I have had the laptop for a little over a year now and have only had a few problems. My Dad is an IT guy and was able to fix the small stuff, nothing even worth mentioning here. But then I started experiencing bigger issues.
I turned on my laptop a couple months ago and after logging in it brought me to a temporary profile and I was unable to access my other files, it was all gone. My Dad found a way around it, for a little while. Then it happened again, and I didn't want to go through it again, so I completely restarted the computer. Well, just last night it happened for a THIRD time. This time, I lost a lot more valuable documents. I didn't just lose a simple poem, I lost work documents, beloved pet pictures, everything! After some research this is a common problem and there are ways to fix it temporarily, but never for good. I wasn't able to figure out where the problem actually was in the computer. That is the ONLY reason I am giving this product a 3 star, because it may not be the laptops fault, but the updates or something may have been faulty.
I am most likely out the money I paid for this to get a new laptop and because I am in school, I need another one right away. I am outraged that there isn't a solution for this that will last. And I am even more upset that this has happened more than once to the laptop.
After my restart too, I became unable to access certain apps that came with Windows 8. I couldn't install a new update, couldn't reach the store, or use the Webcam. I don't know what triggered this either, but no research on Google gave me an affirmative answer.
I am so upset about what I lost in the product, that I may not use Dell ever again, and they are a company that my family has ALWAYS trusted, but I have lost a little faith in them.
I do not recommend this product, get something a little bit more expensive to insure it will last is my suggestion.

Title: This Dell laptop is a disaster!
PostedJune 30, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
From the first moment I opened it up, my laptop would not turn on. It would just sit and click or beep. Very frustrating. I have today spent 2+ hours on the phone with Dell to troubleshoot and am now going to return the laptop. I will not accept refurbished parts to install myself or send my laptop off to the depot for 3 weeks. I am BEYOND frustrated with Dell. This is about my 7th dell computer purchased...1st laptop. I am DONE WITH DELL. My computer business is going somewhere else. Buyer Beware. The returns dept just offered me a replacement - I am now on the phone 2.5 hours and want nothing to do with this company any more. I will wait the 30 days to get my money back after I return it.

Title: Better on the Inside - the plastic is not fantastic
PostedJune 5, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
My Inspiron 15 3000 laptop arrived swiftly and was easily loaded up ready to go - marvellous! However there are some design flaws which make this a frustrating laptop to work with. The hardware seems cheap and plasticky - not like the previous Dells I've owned and worked on. The space bar only funcions if you click it quite hard in the centre, so if you type with both hands and naturally click left or right sides of the bar, it won't register a space. Getting a replacement keyboard has been a frustrating experience and I'm still waiting. Cutting edge? Oh yes . . . The side edges of the laptop are sharp so if your style is to come at the keyboard more from the sides, prepare for scratched wrists! Not too impressed Dell, sorry! It's beautiful on the inside, not on the outside.

Title: Im a Student, and this is great
PostedJune 5, 2014
Yes, I would recommend this product
Im currently in highschool, and I use this laptop for classes and casual gaming. It is great for using it in class, with the 15 inch screen which is good for multi-tasking. The weight is a TINY bit on the heavy side, although it doesn't really matter for me as I use a carry case. The battery performance is a bit poor. With the lowest brightness and energy-save mode, I get around 4 hours of battery life.
Pros:windows 8, fast processor, fair price, number pad
Cons:no multigesture, loud trackpad buttons, spacebar isn't very responsive, battery life, weight

Title: BIG PIECE OF JUNK
PostedJune 2, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
This is the biggest piece of trash ever had made by dell. I have bought dell computers for over 30 years. I have a 12 year old desk top that puts these new dells to shame. My husband has an insp 17 that is also junk. I would not recommend these lap tops to my WORST enemy. Dell needs to make some serious changes before I will ever have another dell or recommend to any one. Start by throwing windows 8 in the trash can. Thanks Sharlene

Title: Great All Around Laptop: Inspiron 3537- i5 6GB 500GB
PostedJune 2, 2014
Yes, I would recommend this product
My last Dell was an Inspiron 600M before moving to another brand(short lived) and then to the OSX system. After running into enough "doesn't interact well with others" after 6 years, I came back to looking at PCs. Dell was my first choice and with my list of specs, found the Inspiron 3537 to be the one to make the transition.
To start with the cons, the mouse touch pad and finish will show all your fingerprint smudges. After the first day, the touch pad looked like I owned it for years. Not a break it scenario, just a con. The second con was the DVD drive went bad on Day 2. Since I bought it at a brick and mortar, they took it back, swapped the hard drive into a new unit. Funny thing was, the new unit uses a different brand of DVD drive and battery although the model was the exact same.
Coming from a Mac, I was missing the gestures features until I found the Dell TrackPad app in settings and actually it does more than OSX does with the TrackPad. Very happy with that.
The first thing I did was bump the memory up from 6GB to 8GB...and realized this machine will maxx out at 16GB. Maybe later. It runs great. Easy enough to access the memory and the hard drive. I did buy an extended battery because the 3-4 hours wasn't enough. 6-8 is more like it. Love having the ability to access the battery versus it being built in.
For the included features like USB 3.0, BlueTooth, HDMI, TouchScreen, DVD Drive, and SD card...this laptop hits the sweet spot for me both in price and features.
Pros:feature packed, usb 3.0, bluetooth
Cons:fingerprint smudge magnet, short battery life, on the heavy side

Title: Not up to standard.
PostedMay 30, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
Very disappointed with this computer. I've another Dell
Inspiron, that has nine years use; its battery power is
better than this (at the moment, I've 38% of battery power remaining, that will give me 1hour and 30 minutes more use). If you are going on very, very short journeys or using very limited applications, then maybe this model is sufficient. If not...

Title: Good buy for a basic kit
PostedMay 21, 2014
Yes, I would recommend this product
Let me state at the outset that this system was purchased as an inexpensive backup computer for our office and is not intended for everyday use.
The computer runs all the software we require, including some proprietary applications.
However, if one is accustomed to I7 or Xeon systems, it runs painfully slow. Understandably, this is a consequence of the processor, memory, and system board, and is not meant as a criticism, but simply an observation to advise potential buyers.
For the cost, not a bad buy.
Pros:inexpensive, reliable
Cons:slow
