I have had my laptop for about 4 months, and I'm very pleased with it. Windows 8.1 was a pain to configure, and there was some bloatware to deal with. After some work I got it all sorted and it looked like XP again.
The laptop has been very good. It's well made, and the battery lasts well. I don't play games, but it's been fine for e-mail, looking at videos, listening to radio, photos etc. I've had abso lutely no speed issues.
It seems to be very well built. No DVD, but then you get that with much more expensive models. You can buy an add on one for next to nothing if you need one.
The case is a kind of boring black, but it is well constructed. I can live with this. The more expensive laptops in the stores don't look much better!
I'm really glad I bought this laptop. I think it's excellent value.
Pros:well built, great value, quite fast enough for everyday tasks
Cons:doesn't have bluetooth, only 2 usb connections, windows 8.1 a pain at first

Title: DO NOT PURCHASE
PostedNovember 24, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
My overall experience with Dell has been awful. I purchased my laptop with an additional 2 year warranty, with intentions of keeping this product throughout law school. About three months from the date of purchase, I noticed my wireless connection dropping here and there. I did not think anything of it. A month later, my wifi connection would drop way more frequently and would not re-establish wifi connection for a while. Meanwhile, my other electronic devices were able to hold and maintain the wifi and internet connection. I called Dell technical support on two separate occasions, first time updating my driver and the second time to have them probe around with my wireless router settings. After all this, my laptop still continued to drop the wifi. I called technical support for a third time to have the service technician recommend that I wipe-out my entire laptop and re-install everything. Time is quite valuable, something I think if more companies would recognize it would make their customers much happier. Being in law school, I told the technician I did not have the time to try and clean my computer and re-boot everything, without a guarantee the problem would be fixed. I am a week away from finals and I called customer support to try and get re-funded my money so that I could purchase a more reliable computer. I was re-directed and transferred to all different departments, having to wait over an hour at one point, then have my call disconnected, then wait another hour to speak to a return specialist. Dell has currently not been able to do what I've asked, which is to return my monies in exchange for me returning the computer I purchased. Nothing from the customer service to the product itself would make me purchase another Dell nor recommend it to anyone I know, or to you, who has read this.

Title: I'm disappointed in my Dell Inspiron 15
PostedNovember 23, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
I'm not blaming Dell for Windows 8 but I hate it. I am disappointed in my new laptop. This is my 3rd laptop and 6th computer. It's unresponsive. It will not click into a dialog box, a web browser address, and it takes several tries to get the scroll bars to slide up and down. It is very un responsive. Sometimes I have to hit the enter key because my left mouse key will not be acknowledged. The facial recognition program refuses to acknowledge me but will not let me skip it. I wish I had kept my old dinosaur and waited out a better laptop and windows 10

Title: Worst build quality
PostedNovember 21, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
Having purchased two good Dell laptops in the past, I had bought a Dell 3542 Intel core i3 laptop recently. And my, it has such a poor build quality compared to the other two Dells I have. The speaker volume is too low, the build is too thin plastic, the DVD tray is really flimsy. Dell should stop selling these kind of poor quality laptops. My faith is completely shaken.
Bought this for my daughter at an amazing low price for the spec. Thought it would take me all day to set-up and get used to Windows 8.1, as I'm on 7, expected to have to read through normal thick manual, etc. but Windows 8.1 is truly amazing, as loaded everything automatically, found her Infinity b/band itself, etc. etc. Whole set-up, start to finish was less than 2 hours. So if you are hesitating about buying this, because of fear of Windows 8, then don't worry !! A child of 6 could easily install. I wasn't needed at all !! The laptop is brilliant, nice bright screen, good keyboard, decent sound The lack of Ethernet and CD rom did initially concern me, but I think Dell were right to exclude these "old" technologies, enabling them to get the price for a good Laptop down to below Tablet prices. Well pleased, thoroughly recommended, so much so I'm thinking of getting one for myself !!
Pros:windows 8.1, good bright screen, brand, ease of installation
Cons:only 2 usb, no usb 3, no ethernet slot

Title: just read the review, there is no title
PostedNovember 8, 2014
No, I do not recommend this product.
The WIFI on this laptop is not good, even when comparing with my old laptop. And trust me I have tested it beyond normal means. I have 2 laptops and 1 desktop pc at home and I tested the internet speed on several occasions, and the result is what you see on my review. With a 50mb internet speed, the desktop pc has at least 30, 35. The old latop has about the same, but only Dell has a poor speed.
Another thing wrong with it is that the laptop comes with problems already, and its not faulty, its just the way it was built. Again to compare with my old laptop (it wasnt expensive, it was cheaper than this one at the time!), my old laptop had a i3 chip, this one has i5 and the other specs are a bit higher too, but none of that matters to Dell, because this laptop is slower than my old one. I have measured this on several occasions too. A simple thing like transferring files from one folder to another (no external drive) takes ages, it takes longer than my old laptop, AND sometimes if the files are big it will freeze and possibly crash. This is supposed to be faster than the old one! and the old one's specs werent as good as this Dell laptop! plus its old! and this Dell is new! Anyway, im frustrated with Dell, I shouldve listened to some reviews I read. I WILL try and sell this laptop.
Pros:looks good, 1 tb storage
Cons:poor wifi reach
