too expensive to have problems

PostedDecember 4, 2010
No, I do not recommend this product.
i love this computer but my video card stopped working and i have to replace it which will cost me $200 and its not my fault why it stopped working , when i called dell with my problem they told me to buy a new laptop for $500 ,i replied "do you realize i paid almost $3000 for this why would i throw away my money like that i just want it fixed " and i read that this is a common problem with this computer i just wish i could get my money back and buy something that wont break down .

This is a portable PC. I mean literally. If you like me need a pc with a big screen that you can take to the library to work on your projects or take it to work, this is the right portable pc for you. I bought mine from dell outlet and it is working like a charm.

If you are thinking about it, just don't

PostedJanuary 7, 2009
No, I do not recommend this product.
If you think that you absolutely must have this computer. I would suggest getting a good long warrenty, and paying the extra 12 a month to be able to talk to a service representative in the states. Do not expect to have everything work at once, a few things will work at a time. I have gone through several of these machines and key boards in the matter of a year.
Pros:Looks sleek and professional, even seen it in a few movies like Iron Man etc.
Cons:Looks aren't everything. This is on sale for a reason. I have gone through several machines, each one gets a little bit better but not everything works. I had to fight with DELL and the BBB just to get it fixed. Still don't have a working camera, tv tunner does not work, remote doesn't work.... plus when you call them they don't understand English and I don't understand them since everyone is in Brazil.

Do not buy

PostedAugust 4, 2008
No, I do not recommend this product.
Would be a good machine if only the board would charge correctly or an external keyboard charger was available.
Pros:Great looking performs well when it works
Cons:Keyboard does not charge correclty. Battery dies about every 4 weeks. Since I bought it in March 08 to July 08, My keyboard battery has died 3 times. First time replaced the battery and then 4 weeks battery died again. This time replaced mother board (ater 3 weeks). End of July keyboard died again. Still working on getting it fixed this time. Design for keyboard recharged is bad.

Think long and hard before purchaing this machine

PostedJuly 8, 2008
No, I do not recommend this product.
I will be selling it on Craigslist as soon as I get it back. I simply do not trust this machine. You would think that after spending $4500.00 you would be getting something outstanding. This computer needs to be given back to the Engineers and completley gone through, especially the issue with the Video card.
Pros:The pros are everything you see, large screen, semi mobile from the office to the house. Beutiful design
Cons:I purchased one of these machines in October of 06, with the expensive replacement warranty. Since then Dell has been dispacted to my location 5 times, EACH TIME to replace the video card, and additionally, the motherboard, fans, and processor. The last time they were here, it lasted a total of eight hours. They finally agreed to replace it with a rebuilt, that was over 60 days ago, it is due to be delivered tommorow.

Simply Awesome

PostedJune 24, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
This is a really sweet computer that looks great and does the job. The only issues are the time to sync keyboard and the slow OS (Vista), but I'm gonna stick it out and wait until they make the changes to make it faster. Make sure you have enough memory (get 4GB if possible). This computer is a media king, and as such is definitely not a laptop, rather, a portable desktop. You really don't know how big it is til you take it out of the box and REALLY see it. It's awesome.
Pros:Incredibile design, beautiful integration of components, sharp look, and awesome comfort (in viewing).
Cons:A bit slow at the startup, takes a couple annoying seconds to sync mouse and keyboard, and can be a bit slow at times.

On my down time I can do curls with my 20 lb laptop. Another thing to mention is that it appears to up convert standard DVDs when you have the Blu-Ray Player. Quite honestly this is a great laptop and if you want to show it off and make people see how awesome you are then go for it. =P
Pros:Great system all the way around... haven't found anything missing yet! I have every available upgrade hardware and it performs like a sprint car.
Cons:Vista only... would have loved to not have to rebuild with XP but other then that. nothing.

good if you just want something unique...I have not lost faith in dell...old trusty 8600 is running strong in its fifth year...M2010 has been an absolute wash.
Pros:initially, it looked to be the ultimate "mobile" desktop replacement, quality materials, -beautiful screen -did I mention quality?
Cons:-slow, even with xP, starting up was a pain -crashed 4 or 5 times, -mother board, video card, ram was replaced but still crashing -dell return to depot requires an amazing 5 days to get to the house...so much for a 6 grand computer. -disappointing bluetooth mouse -poor webcam quality -terrible video card...or shall i even say overall

Don't let the Cons put you off!
Pros:Very good machine cannot really fault it. I have had none of the problems reported in other reviews. I does what I expected.
Cons:This machine is not really a lap top but that is not what I wanted. I was replacing a Dell desktop and wanted less clutter in the home environment. Shoud have an HDMI port and a blue-ray drive as an option. Should have had the option of a better screen resolution. I really don't understand why the options available on the XPS M1730 - my other purchase - were not available

Incredible portable desktop

PostedMarch 25, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
It is an ideal portable desktop for those who move frequently. As a senior who "follows the sun" I feel like I have a desktop with me!
Pros:Nice, clear picture with great resolution and depth of color. Easy load CD/DVD. Very easy to set up and use almost immediately. Love the detachable keyboard and wireless mouse.
Cons:I think that there should be a way to lock the keypad to the computer. Unless working on a flat surface, it detaches too easily. At this time, only one carying case is available. Perhaps it should be included with the computer or ofered as a bonus! The manual provided is written for windows XP but the os is Vista!

Coolest Computer Around

PostedMarch 24, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros:The XPS M2010 machines have an impressive design combining the best of both worlds -- desktop features and laptop portability. I have never personally purchased a Dell machine before, but have used them many times at work. When it came time to buy a new computer, I considered all the alternatives -- laptops, desktops, and all the brands. I even considered for the first time buying a Mac. Along the way, I ran across the M2010, and I perused all the multimedia information on the website. I was impressed. I even went so far as to configure it, but I didn't commit to buying it right away. I had to satisfy myself that there wasn't another machine out there that I might like as well, but for a lower price. The problem was that as soon as I studied the features of this machine, nothing else seemed to stack up. I kept looking at the alternatives, but I eventually got tired of looking at inferior machines that didn't seem to have the whole package like the M2010. I decided to go for it, and I haven't regretted my decision for a second. When my machine arrived, I was even more impressed than I was when I ordered it.
Cons:The only thing I can complain about is the price, but I guess you have to pony up when you're getting the coolest computer around.

Amazing portable PC, not a laptop

PostedMarch 24, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
If you want a fully functional PC you can take with you, this is ideal. If you want a laptop, get something smaller.
Pros:A great portable computer. It's powerful, sleek and amazing. It's got a huge wow factor and great for any technophile. I love it!
Cons:Not really viable as a "laptop". It will make your legs fall asleep, also the keyboard will keep falling off off, which makes it unbalanced. It's huge, it's heavy and bulky. It's case (if you buy it) is basically luggage on wheels.

Who's your Showstopper??

PostedFebruary 26, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
Yes, this machine is a "Showstopper". Most people have no idea what it is until I open it or they see the Dell logo flashing on it. It's fun to see their jaws drop. This is the ultimate for anyone in the business of designing using computers, and it's definitely a worthy investment for students (don't forget the premium security bundle). I love, love, love my computer and I definitely recommend it over any other notebook and even as a desktop replacement.
Pros:Actually, this computer is known as "the MOTHER of all notebooks" in the architecture department. WHile it is large and rather clunky, it is somewhat reserved in the amount of space it takes up. In that case, the keyboard design helps in that you can move it to your lap or the keyboard drawer of your desk. The handle is "handy" for lugging this baby around quite comfortably. While I would have preferred higher resolution, the screen's1680 x 1050 res is still much better than most available notebooks. Also, the nifty slot-load cd/dvd burner makes a cool "zip" sound when opening and closing...I'll let you know when I break it! The four speaker sound system and subwoofer make for the most amazing sound I've ever heard coming out of any computer speaker. Mine is basic so I can't begin to imagine what the upgrade can do. The battery is also amazing in that despite all the windows I have open at the same time including media player CAD programs and image editors, I still get almost 3 hours of work time on balanced/medium power.
Cons:I wish the case for this baby was included in the price because I've yet to find a protective sleeve to fit it and Dell's case is a bit pricey for me. I don't mind the 18 pounds since I tend to carry it for five minutes and am stationary for three hours. If I were Dell, I would marked this in both the laptop and desktop sections since this leans more in the "portable desktop" direction though it does work as a laptop if you've got the space. On that note, the only upgrade to this design would entail a mechanism which allows the keyboard to stay connected to the computer when it is open. Despite these "minor details" my only issue with this computer is the fact that the black "brushed stainless" looking surface around the cd/dvd drive and its media panel attract finger prints and dust easily.

Amazing Product

PostedFebruary 12, 2008
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros:This is an amazing machine. Its everything you want from a desktop, but in a laptop. The screen is huge and very vivid and clear. The detachable keyboard is a very nice feature as well. The fact that the keyboard charges when attached is very handy, no need to keep buying batteries. Performance is excellent. I use mine for gaming and it runs perfectly. The style is just fantastic, you'll definitely get a 'wow' reaction out of anyone who sees it. Definitely a good purchase.
Cons:It is a little difficult to move around, just due to its sheer size and weight. But that's just what you have to put up with a laptop with a 20.1" screen. Its not meant to be the most portable laptop, it meant to be a desktop replacement. If you're looking for a computer to carry around with you, then you may want a smaller model.
