already had to replace the cheapy power supply and the harddrive is going out now.
the only other complaint i have is the cd-rom is loud.. real real loud.
should have waited and got a real xps, with a better power supply.

I know it's a small thing but I really like to see if an app is really using the optical drives. Otherwise, I like this system as I have the other Dell systems I've bought over the years.

Yes, I would recommend this product
Using the XPS430, QC8200, 4gb DDR3:1333mhz , 750gb HDD, ATI Radeon 4850 512mb (was standard option at purchase), 23" Monitor.
This PC is a flying machine. Absolutely eats Bioshock @ 1920x1080 at Max.
The PC is very quiet and cool, the case design is very tidy. Internally is very neatly designed, nice big fans, with lots of airflow.
My only niggle with the system, is perhaps the Wireless card, where the reception is not always full strength (remember to plug the aerial in too ;) ), and the supplied PSU which is only 375 - Making any future upgrades to GFX require an uprated supply.
Overall though, it's going to be some time before i upgrade, as i bought the machine with the spec i wanted not to upgrade immediately.
A very good purchase and made even more worthwhile for the price i actually paid. :)
Highly recommended.

Great Except when USB shuts down
PostedApril 18, 2009
No, I do not recommend this product.
System lasted two years befor this problem creeped up. If you purchase a system make sure it has HWired keyboard/mouse ports in case youhave to troubleshoot and cant; access USB ports..
Pros:Easy maintanaiable system
Cons:Common problme and personal experience is when the USB ports shutdown for good the system is useless as no keyboard. SYstem design doesn;t include HWired PS2 ports for keyboard mouse which creates a problem whent he Mbod decides to shutdown ALL USB ports.. Need to rpelace MBOD to resolve. HW archotyecture is thus flawed and allow for a complete system failure when USB ports ar shutdown.. No way to interface any loger to even triubleshoot/diagnose as you have no keyboard

All The PC You Would Need
PostedApril 18, 2009
Yes, I would recommend this product
I'm quite pleased to see that Dell is once again selling the XPS 430 online again. Best Buy only offers one option and you cannot customize. Don't understand why Dell stopped selling it for awhile.
Pros:Very impressive Speed, 64-Bit technology, Quiet, Attractive appearance, Great For Photos, Videos personal and business needs. Operating system is very stable even though I have heard stories about Vista. The XPS 430 is a great PC. I purchased the 24 inch Dell UltraSharp monitor plus added the blu-ray drive. Very nice and worth the upgrade from my prior Dell XP PC.
Cons:TV card needed to be updated, Blu-ray software, Power DVD had a conflict with the ATA vidoe card and needed to be updated. I got to know all the Tech Support people from all of the companies. PC came out in late November and the conflicts hadn't been resolved. However, don't worry this is now resolved.

No, I do not recommend this product.
I bought a cheap Inspiron Vista model for my Wife a year and a half ago. Great little machine. Not so much as a hiccup.
My XPS 430(three months old), however, is not.
Consistent crashes. Updated all drivers to no avail, same crashes. Went as far as buying a new hard drive and reinstalling Vista.
Same exact crashes.
Hardware incompatibility?
Next up, another new hard drive and clean install of XP operating system. We'll see if this works.
I figured if I coughed up the dough for the best stuff in this rig, I wouldn't regret it. Wrong. Should have bought the $600 cheap model.

- Duel Graphics card in one slot provides better than expected performance.
- Speedy Delivery and easy to set up
- Stylish Casing
- Windows 64bit works brilliantly
Cons:- Small power supply limits expansion without replacing PSU,

XPS 420 must have 64bit

Pros:the 420 is solid with vista 64bit ...
editing video from RED 4k camera ... mostly edit 2k clips using sony Vegas 64bit or adobe CS4 ..
it can view 4k clips (3-4fps) ... have 2Tbyte raid 0 ...
Cons:bought 420 July 2008.. came with vista 32bit ... everytime it went into standby it could NOT reconnect to internet unless i uninstalled the networkcard driver. Dell service had me reinstall vista 32bit = fixed it till it went into standby ... at least once a day got BSOD.. avoided using the 420 ( used XP on Dell 8200) last Dec. a program i use everyday went vista only in newest version ... after BSOD everyday for 10 days .. called Dell service - they sent vista 64bit .. installed it .. everything works ..have not had BSOD since uopgrade to 64bit .. stays connected to internet .. finally a excellent working computer .. increased RAM to 8gigs ...

A word of caution - If you use any old hardware, make sure you can find drivers for them compatible with Vista 64bit before you decide to get the free upgrade to Vista64, else stick to the regular (32 bit) Vista. I would definitely recommend Vista64, makes resource intensive applications noticeably faster (tho I lost a fair bit of sleep trying to find a 64 bit driver for a Linksys USB internet device).
Pros:Good package, with a 2.66 quad processor, 4 gigs of DDR3 and Blu-ray thrown in for a great price. I am happy I upgraded to the 20" monitor (which is quite good, and looks classy except for the ugly feet) and the Soundblaster Xtreme Music sound card. An upgrade to the 2.1 surround speakers (which are surprisingly good) is recommended if you do not plan to buy/use a proper (atleast 5.1)speaker system, cos the sound-card upgrade will be wasted on the tinny stock speakers.
Will definitely look at Dell stuff first when I next buy anything...
Cons:1)The keyboard is tiny... In fact, its smaller than my lappie... Can be annoying at times.
2) No option to upgrade the graphics card. I am stuck with a 512 MB ATI Radeon HD4670, when I would have happily paid for a 1024 upgrade (ATI or NVdia).
Also, dunno if its an oversight for my system or normal practice, I didn't get the driver cd for my graphics card... Had to download when I reinstalled windows.

XPS430

I bought a XPS420 a few months ago and it works great, except that the graphic card (NVIDIA 9800GT, 512MB) is not powerful enough. I bought the PC for gaming and the frame rate for games like the Microsoft flight simulator and Grand Theft Auto IV have very choppy frame rates on my PC ... I would prefer that Dell offers custom options on more graphic card (1GB+) pn XPS desktops. Else everything works great. It will also be nice to see a Intel I7 processor option on the 430.
Cons:Lack of customisation in the graphic card

Pros:great processor, ddr3 ram, underrated powersupply, quiet system quick delivery
Cons:was expecting to get the 9800gt that came with the xps 420 but instead was given an ati 4670 that is severely underpowered to tackle latest games.

I would recommend buying the 23" SP2309WFP over the 24" one. It's much better in terms of response time and color display. And if you could spend a few bucks more have the RAM upgraded to 4GB. That would be more than sufficient for your present and near future needs. The complete cover guarantee from dell gives a complete peace of mind. A capture from the monitor's webcam is attached. The Windows Experience Index is 5.2
Pros:Looks that can kill,
SP2309W is as good as monitors can get,
Great processing speed, sturdy cabinet, high quality mouse and keyboards.
Cons:Ordinary graphics card, ATI Radeon HD 3850 would have been much better. This is the only weak link in an otherwise awesome desktop. Having said that HD 3650 is good enough for average gaming and almost all other graphics tasks. Its only the high end gaming department where the HD 3650 lacks in.
