I've had my XPS13 for a few months and I can truly say it has met all my expectations.
It feels very solid like it's made of high quality parts. It looks cool too. It starts up lightning fast, much faster than my Dell laptop. It worked flawlessly right out of the box and hasn't missed a beat since. The builtin WIFI works at Tim's and all other hot spots I tried, as well as at home. Battery life is very good.
The only snag I found is the trackpad sometimes doesn't recognize a touch. My workaround is to left-click the trackpad button instead.
If you want a reliable mobile computer, get this one - you won't be disappointed.
Pros:mobile internet access, games, business analysis
Have had the XPS 13 (Core i7 and 256 GB SSD) for a week now and am extremely impressed. Previous laptops were a few Dell Latitude (E65xx) and Macbook Pro. The SSD is truely amazing and beats them all. I am in IT consulting, no gaming, no major graphic usage, i.e mostly Office/Email/Internet use. The XPS is lightning fast, well-priced and stunning to look at. I have had no issues with it, am using a Targus USB 3.0 docking station and Dell 23' screen with it too. Docking station gave a small problem during install, one call to Targus fixed it (turned out I did not read the instructions ;-))
Highly recommended. The complaints I've seen are from screen size (if you're a gamer then get a gaming machine ...) and lack of ports (if you need ports at home get a docking station).
If you want a super fast, well-priced, ultra portable notebook with a great battery : get the XPS 13 Ultrabook !
Pros:software development, Travel, msoffice & email, internet

Different Touchpad, hard to get used to
PostedApril 18, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
Everything is nice abt this laptop, the only issue I have is the touchpad.I prefer traditional touchpads where I can left click by touching the pad instead of clicking the buttons for the XPS13.There a way to fix this?
Pros:excellent startup and shutdown time, very fast at tasks
I have purchased Dell XPS 13Z one year before. Since staring we found an overheating( 85degree centigrade to 97 degree centigrade) problem with the system. Also my display angle is clear only at 90 degrees where as a display unit shown in the advertizement is still 178 degrees. I lodged my problem to dell customer care. Dell CC came to my home and replaced almost whole parts except SSD but the problem is still persisting. I observed that this overheating problem is only due to design failure because the heat is not dissipated properly due to the design of laptop structure. I will never recommend my friends or even my enemies to purchase these laptops. Also the claim of display angle 178 degree is false. Hope you should not go on the attractive look of the laptop and waste your money. Sorry to Dell and thanks to all.
Cons:worthless
Response from Dell.comBy SaraTforDell, Customer Reviews, April 15, 2013
Hello,
I am sorry to hear that you are having concerns with your purchase. Overheating is not common on this system. If the technician that came out to your home was not able to fully resolve your issue, please feel free to reach out to us. We are also available online through Twitter- @DellCares (http://dell.to/Tgt5D7) or on the Dell Community Forums (http://dell.to/pwws14).
The XPS 13 is a small laptop with plenty of power than I can throw in my backpack and be on my way. The only qualms I have with the XPS 13 is the trackpad is horrible so I have to use a Bluetooth mouse and it is too expensive for what you get. I have had this laptop for a week and although I do like it I have debated several times about sending this back and getting the XPS 12 which is basically the same price with a touch screen.
Pros:looks sleek, screen is beautiful, little powerhouse
Cons:way too expensive for what you get, trackpad is garbage
Looks good but Not for . too many issues for the price paid
PostedMarch 8, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
Display: Props to the new IPS Full HD 1080p screen better viewing angles but it is to no advantage if the notebook is used outside because all you see on the screen are the surroundings. Even in a café where the lights are only on the ceiling, reflections are obvious on the screen. Works well in dark areas. Beats the purpose of ultra portability.
Light Bleeding is very obvious around the edges when watching movies with dark/black pictures which is an eye sore. this is very obvious as well when turning on the notebook with the dell logo. best to test this is in a dark area.
Trackpad: Such an issues for the trackpad. Even with recent software updates including bios, the trackpad intermittently freezes and does not move along with the movement of the finger. Sometimes setting the touch pad speed and pressure works but only for a short time. Tried uninstalling and installing Operating system and updates to no success.
Partition: the notebook has a partition saved for OS backup incase the need for re-installing/setting back to factory settings. Windows determined that files are missing in the partition when doing either soft reset or hard reset. Only way to do a re-install is to have a flash drive or external media copied with the backup OS.
Looks good but value is not worth $1500.00. Will return
Pros:looks good
Cons:glossy display screen very reflective., touhcpad is a pain too use intermittent freeze, light bleeding on the screen, too expensive for what u get, with recent software update no fix to trackpad, too much glare
Response from Dell.comBy DonaldDforDell, Customer Reviews, March 19, 2013
Hello Drakez,
I am sorry the XPS 13 did not work out for you. I would actually recommend against a multi media PC. A business system would address almost all your issues with this XPS system. The Partition will still be there, but, you will have to make the backups disks during setup for a system restore. The trackpad can be adjusted for the sensitivity issue you are experiencing, and the Latitude screen has a matte finish.

Bad touchpad makes a great machine a bad machine.

No, I do not recommend this product.
Nice screen, keyboard, form factor. However, I am very surprised that such a fine laptop is equiped with such a problematic touchpad. I have tried all the diferent driver updates, and it is still not working right. If you are considering this model, then I could only recommend it if you rarely use the touchpad, and mainly use a mouse. Please google it and you will find many posting about this laptop's problematic touchpad. I wish I read about it before I purchased it. I am within 30 days, and unfortunately it is going back to Dell. Do the research.
Pros:screen, size, weight
Cons:touchpad, touchpad again.
Response from Dell.comBy DonaldDforDell , Customer Reviews, March 21, 2013
Hello RB408.
It could be happening due to the need for a graphics driver update or due to incorrect Touchpad settings. I suggest you to install the video drivers by downloading it from the following link: http://dell.to/QNcV5V
If you need help with this, reach out to our Dellcares Team:
You may also try the steps provided in the link below, if the driver update fails to fix the issue: http://dell.to/PZ1nYj
Hope that brings back the great machine for you!

Great Travel Partner!!!
PostedMarch 6, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
This laptop is very light and powerful, but I only recommend it when equipted with the FULL 1080P Display. I ordered it the first time with the standard display, which is not very bright at all...I could live wothout the crystal clear picture that 1080P gives me, but the brightness (or lack of brightness) was unacceptable for me. Dell graciously allowed me to return the 1st one with 720P and I went ahead and paid for a FULL 1080P model and I am very happy with it. It is solidly constructed, lightweight, boots up in seconds, and easily handles all my applications (including databases and video editing software). Best laptop I have ever owned, I replaced my 2 year old BIG Studio XPS with it. I get lots of compliments on how good it looks...
We've bought 5 of these laptops since May 2012 and have not been able to get even one of them to connect to the wireless internet consistently. We've spent hours with Technical Support. Dell is aware of the problem. However, none of their suggestions fix anything. It's a beatiful lightweight computer but do not buy it.
Cons:does not hold wireless connection, no ethernet

Hello Techgrrl,
Thank you for submitting your review. I am sorry that this system has given you problems connecting to your WiFi network. Recently a new driver was released to help with the WiFi concerns. Go to this page: http://dell.to/ZUoIBj, scroll down to the "Network- Drivers" section, and install the newest driver (currently version 15.6.0.19) for 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows 8.
I hope this can help.

Lousy - Busted keyboard out of box, freezing, etc.
PostedFebruary 27, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
I had high hopes for my dell xps 13, but I'm extremely disappointed. For starters, the left half of the space bar, on the keyboard doesn't work! The mouse cursor randomly jumps around constantly, and I swear, I am not touching the thing at all.
The entire computer locks up and freezes about every other day.
The BIOS and kernel are all update to date, so maybe I just got a lemon? Either way, I pretty much hate this machine, and I need this computer daily, and can't afford the down time to send it back in.
It's ok, when I'm sitting at my desk, with a different, keyboard, and mouse, but taking this thing on the go, it's a good experience.
Pros:great performance, light, great battery life
Cons:busted keyboard that's frustrating to use!!!, freezes constantly, ify track pad
Response from Dell.comBy DonaldDforDell, Customer Reviews, March 25, 2013
Hello StevenI,
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the XPS 13 loaded with Linux. You can contact Technical Support for help with the locking, but I would recommend the forums first. They do not charge for software support. http://en.community.dell.com As for the touchpad, I would update the drivers. They are found at Dell.com/support.
I was a bit overdue for an upgrade from my old laptop (D830) but I am very glad I waited for the new XPS 13. It was just what I needed - very portable, great display, great functionality. Runs all of my engineering software very solidly. Backlit keyboard is nice, speakers are good.
Battery for me lasts around 3.5ish hours without having to compromise on performance. Yes you can get longer (~5+) with lower performance, screen dimmed down, etc which is useful in some situations. I really only have very minor criticisms: lid is kind of difficult to open, trackpad is alright (still very much prefer to use mouse), volume up/down buttons (wish they were dedicated), power button (dont like holding it down to turn on).
I was worried the screen would be too small but really seems quite large for a 13.3" and it is quite sharp and bright which is great. Hard to tell if the i7 is worth the extra $ but it certainly did not hurt - things are quite fast.
Aesthetically, it looks great and have gotten a bunch of compliments on it.
So far so good! We'll see how things hold up in the longer term.
Law student here and this is the perfect computer for all my needs. I upgraded from an old cheap and heavy laptop. My bag started weighing too much and decided to look for an ultrabook.
I was a little worried about the size at first because I had come from a 15" but you will not even notice it. Perfect size for my needs and I cannot even tell the difference between my old laptop unless it is sitting right next to it.
I just use the computer for taking notes writing papers and general internet and have had absolutely no problems. I use a wireless mouse so I cannot really comment on the trackpad.
One of the things I find most amazing about this computer is how quickly it boots up. I changed the settings so the computer shuts down when you close the lid and it literally will start up before my old computer would wake up from sleep mode.
The screen is super bright but uses a lot of power so I keep it dimmed. Appearance wise laptop is absolutely gorgeous. Love the rubber pads on the bottom that run across the whole device... no more lost little pads!
All in all best price I could find with what I got. I did a lot of research before choosing this laptop and do not think you can beat it with anything price wise.
This laptop overall does not lack performance, but there are some key areas in which the XPS 13 suffers. With only 2 USB ports, a Mini DisplayPort, and an audio jack, this laptop is relatively devoid of connections. This means that the only way to attach removable media is with a USB device, which can be a hassle. Most importantly is the cooling system. It is complete garbage and absolutely needed to be rethought. Under medium to full load, it is a guarantee that this laptop will overheat, shut itself down, and make you very angry. This laptop is suitable for the light user, but anyone else, beware!
Pros:light, portable
Cons:devoid of connections, cooling system is trash

Hello Ernest61,
Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that this system is not exceeding your expectations. Connection options are generally limited on most smaller system such as this one, simply due to size restraints. If your system is getting too hot, check out this link: http://dell.to/RPNbpV. It has tips to reduce system heat. If you still experience these issues, feel free to reach out to our support team. In addition to normal contact methods, support is also available online through any of these methods:
I like the fact it is light weight, has a large pretty screen and boots fast. However, I have had it for a few months and now it will not boot at all. I have spoken to tech support several times and still this remains unresolved. Windows 8 has been revamped and so it is impossible to get into safe mode. The BIOS has changed and is difficult to figure out. What has complicated things is that this has no optical drive ( I thought I would not miss it. Hah!) and cannot be started using a disc. It continues to totally bypass the recovery USB that Dell sent. It has only 2 USB ports and a mini port (meaning I needed to get an adapter) for the monitor. When both USB's are in use and need to use the mini port with an adapter they do not fit as the ports are too close to each other. I want to return this or sell it on ebay and get something more user friendly and reliable. And go back to Windows 7 until more of the bugs are worked out.

I had a choice to go for a new MBP or the XPS for work and I decided to go with the XPS. I do not regret the choice and overall it is a good product. It has a couple short comings.
Pros: Ubuntu with driver support that just works, powerful and slick package.
Cons: Resolution is not great. The community tools are not in the community.

No, I do not recommend this product.
I was in love with this laptop. Thought it was the best laptop in the world. I didn't have a single complaint about it. It was fast, sleek, and all-around excellent. Until it stopped turning on. I've had it for one month, and now Dell tells me that there is a motherboard failure. No computer should completely fail in 1 month. Don't even bother buying this laptop, the grief is NOT worth it.

Hello DontBother,

If you do have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. In addition to traditional methods, you can also reach us online using any of the following methods:
Purchased the new XPS 13 primarily for taking more college classes during the evenings. Wanted a notebook that was thin and light, good battery life, a nice screen to look at, and also capable of handling programming and photo software. I looked at a few but picked the Dell for its price and my previous experience with Dell products. I have not been disappointed. Pros: - after first week of class, charged the laptop on Sunday, the following Sunday had 2 hours left. - small footprint of the XPS 13 allows me to reduce the weight of my backpack. I was hauling a 15" MacBook Pro around for the past few years. - fast performance, start up, performance on Adobe Photoshop outperforms my desktop. - Screen is nice to look at when doing homework during lunch, or in a dim lighted area at the college. Could improve on - the trackpad seems rough to the touch, I would like to see it feel a smoother.
Just got our new XPS 13 Ultrabook the other day and I have to say we love it! Very small compact form yet feels extremely durable and looks amazing and did I mention screaming fast! I purchased this for my wife and got her the i7 model with the 128GB SSD & 8GB of memory and this little thing is extremely fast...starts up and shuts down in mere seconds and our apps load in an instant. We were both not fans of Win 8 (Dell please give us the option of selecting our OS like Win 7 or Ubuntu or even yes Win 8 for those that do actually like it) so I bought a copy of Win 7 and installed it and loaded all the drivers from Dells site and it works flawlessly! Some forums and reviews have complained about fan noise, wireless connectivity issues or trackpad issues however we've not experienced of those issues with our device and we have our wireless router pretty far away from the laptop (in the upstairs attic) and we still connect full strength with no disconnect issues! Dell you guys hit a home-run with this one but it would have been a grand slam if you would've given us the option to choose another OS! Anyway the portability of the laptop, overall design (love the backlit keyboard) and performance specs are all what we've been waiting for in a laptop.
Pros:email, web surfing

The keyboard lights up.. awsome!
The bad They didnt warn about needing mini display cable when one wants to use the projector. The regular VGA just doesnt fit. and worse, there are 3 different mini display cable to VGA advertise on DELL website, go figure which one will fit the projector in your office/lab/class.
where is the printer port??? Useless when it comes to printing!
only 2 USB port
Wishlist: -Ionizer to neutralize the free redicals emmited -Printer port!!!! -comes with 7 day butler service.. hehe just kidding
Pros:study, retrive e books n reading online, special analysis software, presentations
Review: After my loyal Inspiron 1318 gave up on me at the start of the semester I panicked, but after 2 weeks of research, I settled for another Dell, and was not disappointed. The Dell XPS is a great computer for most needs, will be a great traveling companion, I take it to school with me all the time, overall awesome laptop, glad I bought it. (Many compliments from friends.)
Pros: Bright screen, long battery life (6-8) hours, durable, very light (just like another book in my bag). It has excellent sound (especially compared to the Toshibas my husband has had). It is very fast - boots up in less than 10 seconds usually. Sturdy - feels durable, but without being clunky. Also not flimsy and bendy like some other ultrabooks. Super stylish - looks awesome. The new trackpad features are amazing - and really useful. Has USB 3.0 on the right hand side, which is awesome. Also has this stylish little thing on bottom of computer to hide all the stickers and info (also means stickers don't get rubbed off).
Cons: The viewing angles are not great - the screen doesn't go far back and when it does tilt forwards or backwards it loses quality very quickly. I have yet to use it in a small space, e.g. airplane, but as soon as you tilt it forward it is really hard to see. The wireless isn't great, it doesn't pick up networks as well as the Inspiron 1318 used to - not sure why, all updated drivers etc. Also, the trackpad is a bit annoying, I love the new features, they're awesome, but sometimes it takes up to 15 seconds to register my tap-to-click, and likes to expand and minimize things when I'm not paying attention - but I don't want to disable them because I like those features - again all updated drivers. Could use one more usb input. Fan bit noisy sometimes. Wish it had more storage space, coudln't afford the 256, so stuck with 128gb. It has USB 3.0 but it's not blue, like on all other laptops - which means I didn't find out it had it until I had already bought it - it's a good selling point.
