Solid PC

PostedDecember 6, 2011
Yes, I would recommend this product
Bought a middle of the range Vostro 260 Slim Tower (i5, 4GB RAM) at a great price. Not the prettiest machine, but very capable for what it needs to do.
Setup was easy and the end user is very happy with how it works.
Would highly recommend this machine for doing general office administration jobs.
Will definitely buy more.
Pros:reception pc, office applications, accounting software

This product suits our environment and does not take up much space. It has all the features we require and was not difficult to assemble.
We have bought Dell products for the last five computers we have and the service is always great.

Poor quality and service

PostedSeptember 20, 2011
No, I do not recommend this product.
This computer arrived not working out of the box -- inoperative power key. Called Dell, told me to get a screwdriver!!! Told me they would call back about return and replacement. Call back at business 8pm the next day (from India, Indonesia, who knows. Called again, told that they had not properly logged the call, thought it was a repair! Bottom line cancelled order. Never will buy Dell again.

no more "calling the IT guy"

Have you called the IT guy lately because the printer or Pc was down....again. We did that for 6 years trying to save money on those custom built PC's. They are a complete piece of junk. Step out, buy the dell server and vostro 230's. We now have 8 units and no more "call the IT guy".
We have had them for 2 years now...had 2 hard drives go bad and Dell as right there to replace them the next day. I am buying a laptop now.

Out I.T. Company ordered more then 150 of these guys so far and we installed these systems in demanding environments.. When we had any issues Dell took care of the problem quickly and efficiently.(one or two minor things..) I can definitely tell that Micheal Dell is BACK! We also LOVE that we can customize these systems any way we like to unlike Apple that gives you this, that, and crazy prices. Keep it up DELL!
Pros:it - software - hardware

Too Slim

PostedDecember 29, 2010
No, I do not recommend this product.
Bought this with a NVIDIA GeForce G310 video card to drive 2 monitors.
Flaws: because of the slim box, this video card supplies only DVI & HDMI, but the box doesn't contain a HDMI cable; even if an HDMI cable had been provided, the monitor in the box didn't have HDMI input.
After getting the necessary HDMI to VGA adapter, there wasn't enough space to plug both HDMI and DVI into the card until I wittled away large chunks on both.
Summary: unsuitable form factor for a dual monitor setup.
Pros:office

Disappointed

No, I do not recommend this product.
CD/DVD tray doesn't have an eject button. Also, VGA port is way too close to the 4 USB ports in back causing a space conflict issue.

I recently bought 4 of these - not a problem with any of them, super easy to set up and get going.
Since the time of online ordering, they were in my new office and set up with in a week.
Thanks Dell.

Vostro 230s - Slim line PC that packs a punch.

PostedJune 23, 2010
Yes, I would recommend this product
I purchased this PC from Dell Outlet knowing the limitations it would offer in terms of it being a slim line case and the power supply being only 250W.
The CPU inside is an Intel Dual Core E6500 (2.93Ghz), 1 x 2GB (1066Mhz) memory module and 320GB hard drive. Windows 7 32 bit is installed and I had all the installation CD provided too.
The documentation says that the CPU can go right up to a Core 2 Quad CPU but if you were going to do this I would suggest a better cooling fan as the stock fan probably won't cope.
I purchased a seperate Asus EAH 5570 graphics card which works perfectly in the PCI-Express x16 (v1.1) slot. A card like this won't consume too much power from the power supply and it has excellent performance for a low profile card.
Inside the case everything is very tidy with space for an extra hard drive
It would be better if there a couple more USB ports on the rear but that is a bit picky.
Overall this is another excellent PC by Dell and well designed.

Not quite what I hoped...

Button to open CD-Rom drawer too close to power button. Unit has PS-2 sockets for mouse and keyboard but only came with USB for mouse and keyboard, which took up half of my available USB slots. Other than those two things, the Vostro 230 is a good buy.

A very Nice Machine

PostedMay 22, 2010
Yes, I would recommend this product
Purchased for home/small business use after an 8 year old Dell finally gave up the ghost. Even with the 32 bit version of Win 7 the system is very fast! I was able to use about 90% of my older software, and found drivers for all hardware - some of which was 7-8 years old.
The only concern I still have is the 250W power supply, but I think it will be just fine.

Love the slim tower though the DVD slot takes getting used to. The unit does not have a hook up for the monitor cable that is recommended and included so I will have to get an adapter.
