Review:Beautiful design. Vibrant RGB LED 16-inch widescreen. Superb 1080p resolution... all my websites look fabulous on this machine. I run Adobe CS 5 Web Premium on this while traveling ... runs like a charm. Good graphics card. High-capacity battery is available.
Product Uses:hard core gaming, powerfull music creation, internet, pro video creation, hd media viewing
Review:Pros:
This system is a powerhouse at gaming: any game I threw at this system, Eve online, WOW, Perfect World Online, anything, this system could handle it... And then some... Media creation is a snap, Sometimes i feel like the computer is moving faster than my clicks. HD media viewing. This 1920 x 1080 screen puts my friends brand new macbook pro to shame. Colors. Look. Amazing! i recomend getting the higher Res screen. 64 bit Windows 7 makes my life easier, simple as that. I can run 2 online games, multiple internet windows, Vegas pro movie software, FL studio, and skype all at one time... with no lag. Put it that way? Although many say the design is flawed, I highly disagree. they must have never seen OTHER laptops... it has a sturdy hardshell exterior, with a stainless metal trim, and optional hi-end leather... And the bottom is SOLID metal. Cant beat it. and the laptop does not get hot if you buy it with the 9 cell battery... it props the bottom up, allowing air to flow perfectly under it... Almost as if dell designed it FOR the 9 cell! :)
Cons
Such a powerful machine cant be as light as a feather. Its not light. not heavy, but NOT light. also, the powercord does get in the way, being on the side.
Review
Overall, the Pros of this laptop cant be matched by others. I switched from mac to this Dell Studio XPS.

Review:I have owned Dell Computers for about 10 years, and this is my third laptop. I am disabled and going to school over the internet. I am an aspiring photographer, and that is what I am studying in school. I needed a "Laptop that would replace a desktop". The Studio XPS16 is reliable and secure enough with it's Windows 7 operating system and McAfee Security Suite, that I could attend school over the internet and get my assignments to my instructors fast and worry free. The Facial Recognition is VERY COOL...AND it prevents anyone but me from logging on to my laptop, and you can use it to store user names and passwords for your facorite websites too. I also needed something that was powerfull enough to run film scanners, lightscribe drives, and a number of other high powered periferals. Again, The Studio XPS16 fulfilled all of my needs. With it's HDMI, 2 USB Ports, USB eSATA Port and Card Reader, I can download all of my photographs very quickly, I can run all of my periferals, and create a fast backup of my entire system with an external Hard Drive connected to the eSATA port. Drive space was also very importrant to me. RAW picture files are very large, and photographers rarely like to delete a photo...so they add up quickly, and so does the space they take up. The Studio XPS16, the perfect choice here as well. The 500GB Hard drive with "Freefall Sensor" allows my plenty of space to store all of my photographs and run all of my very large programs. Sometimes, I take my laptop outside with me on my wheelchair. The 'Freefall Sensor" gives me the peice of mind, that if it falls off of my lap, my data will be okay. It has 8BG of RAM, so it can run the biggest, most RAM intenstve programs with ease. Overall, I must say, that this is the best laptop/notebook computer that I ahve ever owned. I would recommend the Studio XPS16 to anyone looking for a quailty, high end laptop at a very affordable price, to but one of these. I was so happy with this, MY THIRD LAPTOP PURCHASE, and FIFTH MAJOR DELL PURCHASE OVERALL...That I bought 100 shares of DELL company stock to add to my portfolio.

Review:I was debating whether or not to buy a PC or a Mac to run Windows 7 (Which I prefer to Mac OSx). I really like the hardware that Mac uses. However, matching up side by side, I was able to get a more powerful laptop than the Mac Book Pro in the XPS 16. This also cost me $1,400 less. When I received the XPS 16 I was so surprised at how thin, sharp, and stylish the XPS 16 was. Then I installed Win 7 and WOW. This computer and OS is the quickest, smoothest, powerful laptop I have ever touched. Every piece of the laptop is high quality. The heat dissipation complaints are over rated. It does get hot when running on the "high performance" battery state and running several programs. However, this PC has plenty of power to run in the "balanced" state and stays comfortable on the lap. I encode Blu-ray DVD's without a hitch, the powerful processor does this task in decent time, best I've seen for a laptop. The screen is just the sickest thing since sliced cheese. All in all, I give this laptop my highest possible rating! (Studio XPS 16, 8Gb DDR3 Ram, 1Gb Dedicated Video, 3.06 Ghz dual core processor, 1920 x 1080 resolution, HDMI, dsplay port, serial ATA,and 3 USB ports to boot)
Pros:The 1080p LED screen is very vivid and sharp. I watch a lot of DVD's and I'm highly impressed. My wife has an Inspiron 1525 with a standard screen and the LED blows it away. The design/look of the laptop is very modern but as others have said it is a finger-print magnet. The back lit keyboard is nice when you need it. The facial recognition software is pretty cool but it isn't really any easier/quicker then typing in a password. I upgraded to the T9400 6mb Cache 2.53gHz processor and it is blazing fast. I've played Half Life 2 and the graphics card seems to work great at high resolution but I wish there were other optins for high-end cards.
Sound quality is better than average but still pretty much what you would expect from a laptop.
Wireless connectivity and the multimedia buttons work great.
Cons:The blue ray player didn't work with new Blue Ray DVD's initially. Specifically it wouldn't play the Dark Knight. The XPS customer service was phenomenal and they actually overnighted new hardware and sent a local technician to install it the next day. They then followed up twice with phone calls to make sure I was satisfied. (It now works great).
I'm constantly wiping off finger prints.
It would have been nice to have options for other graphics cards.
Review:I've owned a number of Sony, Dell and IBM notebooks and this one is by far my favorite. The LED screen alone is worth the purchase.

Not up to past Dell standards
Product Uses:a lot of audio editing, some gaming, a little video editing, streaming video
Review:This is the second Dell laptop I have owned but I doubt I will get a third.
On the positive side the machine is powerful and has all the connections I needed or could have wanted.
However, this machine overheats and freezes under heavy use unless I keep laptop cooler running under it at all times. This is fine when using as a desktop replacement but is a pain for travel or if I just want to use it while sitting on the couch.
There are other disappointing design flaws as well. The screen was beautiful, but has been marred over time by the keyboard. This is just poor workmanship.
I ordered my laptop in black. The gloss black finish is cool, but not on the keyboard where it just picks up fingerprints and transfers the slightest residue to the screen.
For the amount of money I spent I expect more from Dell on their flagship laptop.

Simply the best.
Review:This computer is simply wonderful. I have owned it for over three years, never had a problem, and it is as powerful as ever. I like it so much that I will always be a Dell fan, and have suggested similar computers from Dell to friends. Although I have never been a fan of lower models like Inspiron from dell, there Studio and XPS lines are flawless.

Great until crashed
Product Uses:streaming video, internet surfing, music
Review:pros: Worked well for music with excellent audio output, fast-performance, and awesome quality screen.
Con: facial recognition was not the easiest thing to use and i just disabled it. Other than that the only problem I had was that it crashed about 2 1/2 years after i got it out of nowhere. Gave me a blue screen and would not ever start up again, so i have to replace it.

Dell Studio. A waste of money and time.
Product Uses:web development
Review:I spent good money and purchased a Dell Studio XPS 1645. I am in the web design business and need a good reliable PC. I have owned this piece of junk for 1 year and have reconfigured it already. It crashes daily, overheats and freezes. I spoke to the tech guys and ran tests that I had already ran myself. Then they said that i had to take it to be repaired. And as I was in Thailand at the time (Purchased Australia) I had to phone Thailand support and start again. I really dont have the time to waste with this piece of rubbish. DONT BUY ONE!!!

Review:10 months in and no problems yet. Hope it continues... Its power, design and price were worth the 2 weeks spent researching laptops before purchasing it.
The only critique of its design is with the screen. Its high-gloss finish becomes a mirror when exposed to ANY light. Also the screen hinges are to tight to open with ease so to get it open you literally need two hands simultaneously working together to get this thing open.

Best Laptop
Product Uses:connecting to work, streaming video, viewing pitures, playing music
Review:I tracked the Studio XPS 16 in for over a year comparing different models from other vendors. Finally the time was right to make the purchase. Pros Everything worked right out of hte box. The setup and install went very smoothly. It found my wireless connection and within minutes I was copying music and pictures from my desktop. The Studio XPS has several features that make it standout from the crowd. It has a lighted keyboard, a true HD high resolution screen, a 9 cell battery for longer battery life, Windows 7 Professional and a BlueRay slot load disc player. These were all the features that made this the right laptop for me. Cons The Studio XPS 16 in is no longer available in this form factor. A second generation I5 processor would have been desireable.
Awesome machine!!

Great product but gets little HOT
Product Uses:heavy gaming, Video Editing, streaming video, little school and work stuff
Review:I have owned this dell for 8 months now. It has been great. I do heavy gaming, and video editing and its had no trouble handling the load. While playing games like call of duty modern warfare 2 or crisis 2 at medium setting I get great frame rate (around 45fps). The screen is the best full 1080 on a 15 in just looks great. The speakers are loud and have great surround effect. The backlight is so helpful at first I thought I don’t need it but now I can’t live without it. The only thing that is bad about this laptop is that it gets little hot. But it does have intel core i7 and ati hd5730 GPU. The battery life could be little batter but other than that his is the best laptop. I definitely recommend you to buy it.
Review:This was our second XPS purchase. Super fast machine for the price! If you're a gamer, get a cooling pad, otherwise PERFECT machine in my opinion!

Worst Battery Usage & Life Ever for a Great Laptop
Review:Yes, it is very frustrating that you can only have at best 1:30 average of battery right out of the box. should have known, i would have sacrifice some of the nice features and settle for a different laptop that performs like a laptop in terms of battery usage it just doesn't make sense that you need to be always plugged in Honestly, i felt that i was duped into buying the XPS studio as i can get my head around Dell putting in the market such product in this time & age i had other Dell laptop in the past with up to 9 hours battery usage...going backward was unexpected Other than the battery, the xps studio is great, customer service is great Hope this help
