Over 3 years old and still as good as new!

Yes, I would recommend this product
I have had this laptop for over 3 years now, have never had hardware problems except I had to change the keyboard once.
The batterylife is OK, and the nice thing about this computer is that when you have a full battery and you have your poweradapter connected it disconnects the battery which makes the battery last forever. I have never needed to change it.
Overall this is a good all-round computer, but if your looking in to a extreme gaming computer don't buy this.

Yes, I would recommend this product
I love the size of the screen. Perfect for watching movies or music videos. The sound is great! The lighted keyboard is the best when your just browsing at night. It is the perfect size and weight. I listen to a lot of music and it stores so much songs. The memory is great. Overall an all around great laptop!
Pros:keeping up with family/friends, making my own cds/dvds

Yes, I would recommend this product
I purchased my Studio 17 in February 2010. Within days, it stopped working. I got a 7 beep error. Had to have a tech come out and replaced the motherboard. Forward a year, the touch screen has lost the majority of it's sensitivity. Touching the screen barely renders anything any more. The red lining around the screen has some how become cracked at the corners. The CD buttons at top do not work. Ejecting a CD is less than simple. Forward to about 2 months ago, 7 beep error AGAIN. Of course now there is no warranty, and it cost me a 3rd of the original price of the machine to replace the motherboard. Battery is still pretty decent though. Much better than my old inspiron b130 ever made it. It's obviously not like it was, but I can get an hour and half out of it still.

No, I do not recommend this product.
I really loved Dell products prior to this computer. The Dell Studio Laptop sounds like a good deal, but in the last three years of owning this computer it has brought me more distress than happiness. When I had tech support they rarely helped with my issues, and their best advice was to purchase extended support which is both expensive and unhelpful. The computer worked fine until about three months into owning the product; after that the computer has had many issues. What bothers me the most is that the only advice I have gotten from Dell is to purchase new parts and pieces which are not worth the cost either! I have taken very good care of my computer and the issues I have experienced do not match up. I understand that laptops are not meant to last forever, but they should last a college career at least. Currently I have issues with the power cord, the sound, and the trackpad. While the computer is still usable, it is not enjoyable to use and the fact that I originally purchased some of the higher quality parts so my computer would run better just adds to the disappointment. Overall I can never see myself purchasing another Dell because of this horrific experience, and I hope that Dell takes the time to realize that the products they put out should reflect some pride in their craftsmanship.

It has 1 2cm fan to cool the WHOLE laptop!!!! This computer has a core i7 and a medium spec graphics card what were dell thinking!!!! I can hardly use the laptop it is so hot. It randomly re-boots and blue screens. Dell have tried and failed to fix these problems, they have replaced the motherboard twice and the fan and heat sink 2 or 3 times... Also the cheap hard drive that came in the laptop originally broke in LESS THAN 1 YEAR!!!!

This laptop started on a bad note. The second 320G hard drive I ordered was in the case, but had never been wired or screwed in-I didn't find this out until the keyboard failed. I opened the case and the extra drive fell on my desk. I liked the computer in general, although it was loud and ran extremely hot, the speakers are not useful beyond talking volume, and the performance was good. This was to change...
I bought this computer in August 2009. I usually move it from my desk only a couple times a week(I don't walk around with it a lot), and have so far had the following problems:
Top row of button either does not work or flickers and works inconsistently. I have reattached the ribbon but it does not stay. This is annoying because there is no other physical compact disk ejection button.
Keyboard failed, was as if holding down alt key without physical contact continuously, had to replace keyboard to fix it.
Wired in 1st hard drive was completely corrupted, had to transfer everything to a new hard drive, re install operating system. Physical hard drive was damaged, not operating system.
Graphics card freezes randomly and sometimes recovers, sometimes does not. It does this almost every time pressure beyond a keystroke takes place left of the touch pad.
USB slots are loose, and you sometimes must reinsert several times in some to get a connection.
One of the headphone slots (of two) no longer works.
Worst of all, the case is very flimsy for such a large laptop, and it and the hinges have started to loosen, so it flexes a little more than I would like it too.
All these things happened around the expiration of the warranty, in the last year or so.
I have enjoyed:
-reasonably long battery life with extended battery
-good game performance
-An easy transition from vista to windows 7
- Laptops ability to heat a small room.

I spent a good deal on this laptop, and most likely will not be buying any more dells because of it.

Great deal on a scratch-and-dent/refurbished laptop. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the touch-screen so much, but I really LOVE it! And the i7 is fantastic!

I love my 17" Studio with the lighted key board, speed and great picture. I can connect it to my TV, watch movies, talk & see my family & friends on Skype like they are in the room. My son helped me to get this Dell and I'm so thankful he did.

Had a problem with the microphone and they had to replace the mother board. The tecs handled it ruffly and scratched it. But it is working fine now.

I purchased a dell laptop a little over a year ago. For about 2 months it worked fine. Then it died. Would not turn on, wouldn’t do a thing. They sent out support and they could not fix it. They then sent me a new laptop, that laptop turns 1 year old tomorrow and guess what. It died today. Won’t turn on, won’t do a thing. So I called support and because my original warranty expired 2 months ago they can’t do a thing either. I bought a very costly laptop, and now I have to pay to get it fixed. And it’s only one year old. But I guess I can say, for that one whole year it worked well. I bought a Dell thinking it was going to be good quality, I have been so disappointed. I’m also disappointed in support I got when trying to fix the problem.
Pros: good looking computer, fast, and light
Cons: not reliable, no longer working after I’ve only had it 364 days, bad support after warranty is over, and not worth the price

This laptop is just phenomenal, the speakers, power, and full keyboard really bring out the best in this laptop. The massive screen is just what I was looking for and the ports available are also great. Get this laptop and enjoy!

Just Bought My 2nd 1749 Dell Laptop, just enjoy it so much. Now I have one for upstairs and one for downstairs at home. Its always been reliable, the screen is huge, incredible truelife display.
Only problem I had with first was the ac adapter that dell replaced for free since it was under warranty. Im a True Dell Lifer and I Always persuade others to buy Dell for All Their Computer Needs. I have purchased Dell Laser Printers for upstairs and downstairs. I have helped others find the right Dell Laser Printer for their own personal needs. I Highly Recommend Dell Products.

This is my 3rd computer from Dell Outlet, As always they have been GREAT! Incredible savings, generally work very well, this unit had a issue with battery charging right out of the box, they sent me a new batter and also a box to return unit if that did not repair the problem, it did not so set it out, a week later it returned and works Fine. Will ALWAYS look here 1st for my computer needs!!!

Just before year warranty expired the drive failed and no error code is given. The drive has a bad reputation. The computer tends to freeze and crash. There are no viruses and it runs Kaspersky anti virus.
The computer was never able to run windows media and always crashed when trying to open it.

Within a few months of ownership the disk drive failed and was replaced(under warranty). Now I'm getting messages that my hard disk is failing(disk with errors) and will lose all my files. Dells used to last but now they barely make it past the 1 year warranty without something failing on them.

As expected, the thing is big and heavy.
Screen is very good(1920X1200), the main reason to buy this one.
Hard drive can be quieter, compared with a 160GB HD I used in inspiron 9300.
Stock fan is still noisy if it is used in a quiet environment. It is very intrusive compared with T61 thinkpad. Fan functions normally and cools down cpu to 30C which is very unnecessary, I prefer that it keeps cpu temp in range of 55-60C, but super quiet.
