Bulk is worth the quality of hardware

PostedNovember 12, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I have been a latitude user for just over a decade and have come to appreciate the quality design and construction that characterize these laptops. This model is no exception. As I was tired of lugging around a heavy computer, I tried to work with the XPS 13 and was disappointed with the reflective screen, limited screen tilt, inconsistent trackpad, lack of pointing stick and strange buzzing noises. Yes it was light and beautiful, but it was inconvenient to use. The Latitude E6430s fixes all those concerns in a relatively compact, robust design. Though the Latitude's plastic, hollow-sounding base feels cheap and clunky compared to the XPS 13's svelte carbon fiber, I know that I this machine will maintain its value for a long time. The more complete suite of ports are useful and the DVD drive assures that I can install software much more seamlessly. The WiFi radio has significantly better reception. At this time, I have passed on the shinny penny (XPS 13) and found the Latitude to be as valuable and desirable as an old, comfortable pair of shoes that fit just right (thanks Liz).

Great except for the screen resolution

PostedOctober 3, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
We have been a consistent buyer of the Latitude 64XX series (6410, 6420 and now 6430).
Tried the 6430s, is a great compact portable except for the low screen resolution. The 14.0" HD (1366x768) Anti-Glare LED stinks compared to what we have been getting on the normal 14 inch screens (14.0" HD+(1600x900) Anti-Glare LED-backlit).
Will be sending this one back and replacing it with a traditional 6430. Bummer.
Pros:daily portable

A step backward.

PostedSeptember 19, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
The change from the E6420 to E6430 series was dramatically backwards in design and corporate maintainability. Screen resolution of 1366x768 is horrendous for a $1000 laptop and easily outdone by the screens on tablets costing half the price. Very disappointed in recent Dell laptops and we'll be switching our business to another manufacturer during the next upgrade cycle.
Pros:software development
Response from Dell.comBy DonaldDforDellCustomer ReviewsNovember 13, 2012
Hello Dellby,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the Latitude E6430s. I am sorry to hear you are so unhappy with the resolution capabilities. As for the 1366x768 resolution, the E6430s is capable of supporting a Max Digital 2560x1600 @ 60Hz. I would suggest checking for a new driver and/or contacting support for assistance. While you are talking to them, please bring up your reasons for saying it is a "dramatically backwards in design and corporate maintainability". More details could possible help us resolve your issues. If we cannot, at least we will know how to proceed on future products. All input is helpful.
