Review:At base this is a very powerful machine, and the new iCore processor is fast and supposedly quite dynamic. Visual Studio was driving me, literally, insane, due to the dwindling performance of my old Dimension, but the speed and capability of the Inspiron can handle both Visual Studio and SQL Server running without any lag or system conflicts arrising.
From a games perspective you should tread carefully, as the iCore has not been integrated into the gaming world, and neither it seems has Windows 7. Newer games however do run smoothly and with breathtaking beauty, but with 6GB of chip-ram and a 1GB ATI Graphics Card, you'd expect that, and the Inspiron duly delivers.
The only issue I do have is regarding the black screen. Occasionally the screen will flash and raise a warning sound; but no discernable problem is transmitted to the Action Centre. I'm fairly certain this is an OS issue and so don't want to waste my free Dell phone call on that. But no end of Virus Checks or Dell diagnostics raises a problem with the system. Perhaps this is by OS design, but the Help centre is no help either.

Review:Pros Neat machine. Works well. Reasonably quick. Cons Poor documentation, especially with regard to upgrading from XP to Windows 7 which turned out to be a nightmare getting back to where I was with my old machine. Guidance on getting printers/scanners/phones etc. to talk to W7 non-existent. Not enough USB ports. 4 on a machine like this is just not enough. Had to install an additional USB card. Very few ports on motherboard for upgrades.

Review:I'll only buy Dell from now on. I bought a used Dell Inspirion 580 and it is the best CPU I've ever had. All my peripherials have installed without a problem. When problem does ocuur within a few clicks it has fixed itself. I have just bought 2 more Dell Inspirion CPU's for my teens for christmas and I can't wait for them to see how life is going to be easier with their new systems. Customer service is awesome at Dell the chat is quick and easy to. Thanks Dell, your the best.

Review:The I580 is a very capable basic PC with the I3 CPU and W/7. It is replacing an older Dell I use primarily for accessing the web and the increased performance is very noticeable. Because it is refurbished I could not customize it at the time of purchase. Although the on-board graphics was acceptable, I added a Radeon 1GB graphics card and increased the RAM to 8GB. The design of the I580 made the installation a snap and the changes increased performance by about 50%. It is hard to ask for much more in a PC in this price range.
Review:i was unable to set up on own had to employ computer techie to set up my machine & get up & running. have had daily glitch "AMD display driver has stoped responding and has successfully recovered" When friend checked driver(ATI Radeon HD5450) it was dated May 2010 so my techie has downloaded the April2011 version today so hopefully my daily blackout of screen will not recur!! Otherwise most things are much quicker than on my previous Inspiron.

A Good Start

Review:The 580 is a good basic tower. I bought it for the i3-i5 capable motherboard with PCIe and PCI card slots. I immediately replaced the power supply with an Antec Green, the hard drive with an OCZ SSD, increased the memory to 8GB, 1GB PCIe video card and an eSATA two port external PCIe x1 card. So far it works really well and uses very little electricity. I shouldn't need to upgrade any more components for a while until I find a good deal on an i5 processor. I don't game, but do watch a lot of HD Video.

Dell Inspiron 580
Product Uses:research parts shopping and engine manuals
Review:This is an I5-650 with 6gb ram and a 1 terabyte hd. It replaces a Dell Dimension 4300 in my garage. This is a dirty environment. It is quiet, very fast, especially when compared to the 4300 P4. It was purchased from the outlet as a scratch and dent. The glossy black face has cosmetic scratches which are only visible in the right light and probably were caused from the packing. Nice machine, great price.

Inspiron 580 Lemon
Product Uses:watching video, development
Review:Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Right after purchasing the computer it would abruptly turn off after running for a day or so. I called the Dell help desk who went through basic trouble shooting which failed to fix the problem. I called a second time reporting same problem which they requested I reset the machine to factory preset. This did not fix the problem. I replaced the power supply which did not fix it. I reviewed all Windows 7 logs which constantly reported Kernel loss of power message. I called Dell a 3rd time asking for a replacement. They suggested I again reset back to factory default. I refused and said I suspected hardware issues. After getting no where on a replacement (and wasting over a month of frustration) I indicated I would never buy or recommend a Dell, I parked the Inspiron in the closet and bought another computer. Worst computer experience I've had.

Great Experience! Love Dell!
Product Uses:home use
Review:Had my new computer about 2 months now. Love it!
Pros----Very Easy instalation. Im no computer wiz and Dell support was unreal. I highly recc the extra few dollars to get the best support possible, they stayed on the line for hours waiting for software to download! This computer is very fast. I am now able to listen to music and work on photo projects at the same time. It has never locked up on me and continues to impress me every time I sit down to use it. The Bose speakers are fantastic too. I opted for the wireless keyboard and mouse and they are a great addition as well.
Cons---Not many.. The Dell stage is a little annoying and at this time I do not use it so I have to close it every day. Heck not sure why I would even use it ... My computer came with a a Dell Data safe backup program I could install for a 2 month trial, this thing is CRAZY! It drives me nuts constantly poping up on my screen, NO WAY TO TELL IT TO GO AWAY FOREVER!! I finally gave in and signed up for the service just to get the reminder to go away. Guess what its still coming on screen..LOL crazy.. These are little issues and Im sure Dell support could help me but its summer and Ive been way to busy to call. Eventually I will get it resolved Im sure its a setting of some kind.
All in all this is my second Dell and I wouldnt buy another computer. They are easy to install, you customize them to your needs and they are great machines that come with real good tech support. The best part is everyday when I sit down my machine is ready to GO! LOve my DELL!!!

Review:I've reloaded pistols less times than I've reloaded Win7 on this machine. I've used Win7 on an old E521 with 4GB of Ram and it keeps chugging along. After repeated discussions with Tech Support who keep telling me the optical drive is working OK, I bought another brand and now it is working OK. I'm very disappointed in the performance of this computer and Dell's Tech Support. Possibly the AMD chip is just superior.

Review:During a recent storm, lightning got our older Dell computer...and after looking at other offers, went back to Dell for the best product (Inspiron 580 )at the best price. For less money than it would take to rebuild/repair our old unit, got this one with dollars to spare. Have never had an issue with Dell in all the years (18)we have owned them. We have two desktops and 2 laptops...all Dell....All work perfectly.

Replace oldie
Product Uses:general home & school use.
Review:I bought this computer for my daughter to replace a real Dell oldie (came with Windows Me). The 580 set up easily. However, I did not immediately create a restore point as I thought this happened automatically. A power interruption occurred while the computer was on a few days later. Windows would only come up in the SAFE mode. Tried to reload from the factory image on the D partition but that did not work according to the printed instructions even after contacting Dell Support. I then loaded Windows 7 using the disc supplied with the computer to get things going which naturally wiped out all the drivers. I contacted Dell Support and got the comm drivers downloaded on another computer. I transferred this to the 580 to get internet access, which allowed me to download all the other drivers. Three things annoyed me.
1. The factory image loaded on the hard drive was useless. 2. Unlike my Studio 8100, the 580 did not include a disc with the drivers and utilities. 3. The factory image download on Dell Support was not available for that service tag.
Otherwise, think the 580 is a good machine for the price.
