I bought this laptop with the highest expectation. Because I had purchased from Dell in the past and been very satisfied, I didn't even think twice. Now I am wondering what to purchase to replace this piece of junk. It is only 2 years old--overheats and shuts down, cursor jumps to where it wants to be or doesn't respond at all, finish has rubbed completely off touch pad, crashes almost every week. Will not communicate with the Dell printer I have so I have to reinstall the printer almost weekly.

Refurb Fan

Yes, I would recommend this product
I am becoming a big fan of the Dell refurbished line of computers; this Dell 546 is my third(first desktop). They work right out of the box, have enough software to get you going, and importantly, no bloatware like the new products have. Buying the lower end products doesn't always save lots of money, however. The product lineup on the Outlet page changes very frequently, so you have to do your homework to get the best deal.

And I'm a Big Fan of Dell's

From the time I unpacked the computer I had my doughts, the best thing I can say about the inspiron is the monitor nice color. Still looking at taking it back before its to late.. You get a large hard drive an 2G of RAM, with Windows 7(thats not dells fault). The system is slow form the get go I was on the phone with Dell the day after trying to find out if I just had a lemon. I have a four year old Optiplex gx260 that I bought at a action 80g hard drive an 1G of ram little bit of nursing its but its still faster then this one right out of the box..Befor the GX260 it was OptiPlex GX110 Real happy with both of those an Dells web site. Now I fear that I'll get stuck with this .. I've seen smart phones out perform this computer... Just hoping Dell is everything that I've bosted about over my years,, (At the start not to promising) Iam a fan an willing to give them a chance. Wish me LUCK>

Don't bother

The computer I bought was 64 bit with 6G memory. I saw it at the outlet at a decent price, and thought I'd take a chance. I was very frustrated to find out that the network card that comes with this machine is next to worthless. Even though the computer is located in the same spot as the old computer which connected to my wireless network with a cheap edimax usb adapter, the signal kept dropping and was truly unusable. I removed the old card (Dell will not replace this card with a different model) and purchased a decent usb adapter which works very well. I had various problems loading software (needed to restore 1 time). Windows media player stopped working altogether and when I attempted to download a copy from Microsoft, I got an error message saying I did not have a legitimate copy of Windows on my machine. Over the years, I've purchased and built many computers. This is the first time I've ever had issues with a new machine.

My Personal Experience
PostedJanuary 26, 2011
No, I do not recommend this product.
I have received one Dell Inspirion I purchased late November from QVC Special. Had multiple problems which required me to ship back and get replacement. After a number of weeks the old one was picked up by UPS and a new one delivered.
Just would like to know why a three hour battery is only useful up to about 1-1/2 hours? Secondly, does anyone else experience annoyance with the mouse mechanisms being spastic?
Lastly, after I have composed numerous lines of type, all of a sudden there is a blip and all my work disappears leaving me ticked off and having to start over! Don't have the patience for this, my time is too valuable.
The casing also seems very vulnerable.....every time I pick up and open the top, it feels like it might crack.
I took a long time to decide which laptop to replace my old equipment with and quite frankly, I am looking for a more durable and speedy, dependable computer!
Pros:educational planning, on the go, presentations, data spreadsheets correspondence reports

Best Product for the price

Got mine with the AMD Phenom II X4 2.8Ghz & 8 gigs of Ram, awsome system, everything runs super fast and smooth....this is my third dell other two are still running fine.....
I bought this 546 for our store to replace an older, malfunctioning XP computer that I built quite a while ago. I chose the 546 because it had an AMD quad core CPU which is rated faster than the Intel i3. It functions nicely for our every day business usage: bookkeeping, data base, word processing, internet etc. We didn't need any high end video for anything, so the minimal on board video was acceptable. We run DSL for this computer, which works fine, but the 546 didn't have a dial up modem as an add on. I wanted one just in case the DSL went down so we can connect to the internet for a short period of time. I'm having a difficult time installing a Windows 7 compatible modem, though. The operating system does not recognize it. I got a replacement modem which I haven't tried yet. I hope that the problem isn't with the PCI slots on the motherboard.

Love my Inspiron 15R
PostedAugust 26, 2010

This is my fourth Dell purchase and I keep returning to Dell because of their high quality products. When I was looking to upgrade, I needed more RAM and faster processor to run Dragon dictation, ver.10 (which is memory hungry !). The beauty of Dell is I was able to configure/build my system based on my needs and modify each component. Bottom line, I love this machine; it is super fast, has great graphics, and I had no problem loading other software. I was new to Windows 7 (from XP) so bought a book to help me navigate around and help me maximize the program's capabilities. Well worth the money and no problems working with ver. 7. Thanks Dell; keep up the excellent work !!
Ordered just a CPU it arrived 7 days earlyer than orginal deliver date. It has not given any trouble to date am still trying to get used to Windows 10.

Dell continues to be my "go-to" site for computer purchases, and each time reinforces that commitment. Ease of use and solid products. I needed another desktop for my business, the Inspiron 546 fits the bill exactly, low cost, every feature that I need and now with the new operating system (I put off upgrading while the buggy Vista was out)it was very easy to set up. I would highly recommend this unit to any business.

Recently received my new Dell Inspiron 546. I have been using it almost a month. I LOVE IT. Super fast with the quad core, plenty of storeage and I love the built in card reader. I ordered it with dual DVD drives and souped up the memory to 4GB. This replaced my old Dell that would have been 10 years old in another 2 months. Dell are built to last! And I was even able to order it with Windows XP!!! Yeah!!!

Dell delivers just as promised with no sunrises! Other than it was delivered before the original date projected. The website walked me right through with what I needed and made helpful suggestions based on my needs. The product performs with flawless precision and was easier to connect than the last one. Dell has taken the guess work out of transferring date and made every laymen an expert. This is my 3 generation Dell and I look forward to the 4th.

Buying my Dell online was a great experience! It was actually easy. The website took me through everything so I didn't have to think about it. Not only that, but we saved over $200, compared to buying it locally at computer stores or department stores. We had problems moving data from our old computer, but Dell helped with that - in fact, they did it for us!

Good experience with Inspiron 546

My old Dell Precision was dying. I looked at the Inspiron and was impressed with the price for what I needed. I only have minor compaints that are being resolved as I get used to it. I did have a problem with using my Bose speakers that I had just purchased for my old machine. I got online with Dell support and they were able to resolve a driver conflict in a timely fashion. I have been a Dell user not only at home but at work where I am responsible for all of the PC's that we lease and we are strictly a Dell shop.
