My laptop arrived a week earlier than I was expecting. Kudos to that !
The product did better than I was expecting. Knowing for a fact that laptops don't really compare against desktops. My expectations were moderate. Moderate meaning I'm only anticipiating to play games at Medium Settings. Boy was I surprised when the laptop did not even break a sweat playing at high settings.
I love the overall feel of the design. The chassis seemed well built and solid and very stable. The keyboard is a wonder to use. Both for gaming and typing. The keys are nicely spaced apart and does not feel cramped. The AlienFX is a wonderful application that I could easily imagine myself spending hours personalizing my own laptop. Then the performance: everything is what it advertises itself to be.
About my only complaint is the colour package. Only comes in red and black. No matter what angle I look at my new laptop; it reminds me of either a stealth fighter or a Lamborghini Aventador. Would be great if the laptop would come in Lamborghini Orange as well. The weight is of course definitely a con. But then again that is something to be expected of such a machine. The screen is too reflective for my taste as well. But it has it's advantages (you'll know when the boss is creeping up behind you).
Overall a wonderful product. 11/10 stars. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
Pros:gamijng, work

Arkroyale48,
A Plus One??! Awesome! Great to hear how well the Alienware M14xR2 is working for you.
This product is AWESOME! It only takes less than 10sec startup. Gaming runs smooth in high graphic setting. Can handle multi-tasking with good performance. I've played Crysis 3 in high setting with good fps, around 45-55 fps.
Pros:gaming video rendering 3d animations
Cons:it's difficult to reach fan for cleaning purposes.

Great overall gaming Laptop
PostedMay 11, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
At first i was a bit sceptical about spending this much on a laptop, but eventually i decided to take the plunge and can confidently say that it was one of the best decisions i have ever made. The m14x runs even new games on maximum settings extremely well and the online gaming quality surpasses consoles. the keys on the keyboard are quiet and very comfortably spaced which makes it easy to use and the customisable back light makes them very easy to see without them becoming a distraction whilst playing games. overall an extremely good gaming laptop and i would highly recommend purchasing it.
Pros:great keyboard, suitably sized screen, customisable lights, runs high end graphics well, not noisy when playing, great quality, easily upgradable
Cons:price, delivery time to u.k, screen smudges easily
I bought my first alienware M14x and the second day I had it, it said everything was crashing, I called tech support and they said it was something with the motherboard, so I got a new one, so now the second one isnt working either, they keyboard isnt working good at all, some keys wont pop back up once you click them. I have been a long time dell buyer, and spending this amount of money is absurd.
Pros:good gaming
Cons:lots of problems

Since about 4 years ago I had been using computers from the dictatorial company that has a fruit logo, my last computer being a *BLEEP*book pro, and I am a pretty dedicated gamer on my gaming console, but the problem is, I cant take it with me. I always had this preconceived notion that you automatically sacrifice frame rates if you game on PC, because my desktop (which is a custom built) is much slower than my console. but when I received the Alienware M14X, that thought was gone. I ordered the model with the i7 3630QM, 16GB memory, and NVIDIA 650M 2GB DDR5, 900p display I cannot express to you how wonderfully this computer runs. Whether i'm in school taking notes, or playing the most graphics intensive games, the computer is virtually silent (assuming im in a mild temperature) This computer is so quiet I can play games in the middle of my classes (which, yes, I've tried it) This computer performance wise is a beast. I play Arma 2 with maximum settings and absolutely NO lag. and the same goes for GTA IV and Minecraft The aesthetics of the computer are absolutely gorgeous. The LED colored keyboard never gets boring to play with and just adds to the beauty of the 900p display which is extremely sharp. The matte black finish on the outside of the computer feels amazing. And overall this computer has NO aesthetic flaws. when I first brought it to school (keyboard, trackpad and all the lights off of course) it already turned heads by 1st period, people were saying how cool it was (even the mac fanboys and fangirls, which the majority of my school is) The price is expensive, but for what you're getting in this computer, Alienware is selling it to you for cheaper than you could build it. (laptops being very expensive to build and all) and by the way, this product is not too heavy at all. It's somewhat bulky, but in a very sleek, gamer kind of way.
the suggestions to people who buy it 1.buy a cooling pad, it extends the life of your laptop and keeps gaming comfortable 2.format and reinstall windows before you turn on your computer (using the included disk) 3.have fun with the lights.
Overall this product would have gotten a 5 provided 3 things: 1. The operating system was installed better, I recommend to anyone buying this computer, save yourself the grief, just format and reinstall windows. I had to spend 3 days working on Windows Update to make it work and Alienware support couldnt figure it out so i had to use a forum. 2. The warranty for accidental would cost less. its almost as much as a new computer. 3.The ship and build time was less long, I'm paying a lot for a computer, the least they could do is send it via fedex overnight or something other than ground
Pros:looks, performance, feel, honestly for what it is price., keyboard lights
Cons:shipping time, warranty price, operating system install by alienware
I got my M14X a week earlier than than anticipated, thanks Dell. Awesome machine, no matter what you want to use it for... it can do it. Photo or Video editing? Sure. Gaming? Ohhh Yeah! In fact it can play multiple MMO's online at the same time! On top of the fact that it just looks great! Oh and Dells' customer service was top notch in my experience with them. One more thing, maxing it out is worth the $$
Pros:fast powerful portable powerhouse of awesomenes
Cons:alittle pricy for the maximum upgrades, buy hey... its only $$ thats being well spent :)

Really nice laptop, well built. Battery life 6 to 7 hours. Good performance; make sure to get the 256gb ssd, with 16gb ram for outstanding performance.
I love this pc. The best performing laptop I have ever owned. Received great customer service and Dell has backed up their product. I would have given a perfect score, but the GT650 graphics card can be a let down sometimes running the latest games. Still an awesome gaming laptop that I am very happy with.
Pros:portable performance that does everything i need.
I bought the M14x to use as a CAD workstation because all I need is a good DirectX 11 compatible video card for use with Revit and AutoCAD and other Autodesk products.
The 32 GB SSD drive did not have the caching function of the M14x enabled when it arrived - odd since you'd think Dell would want users to enjoy the speed. Our IT specialist had to delete the partition off the SSD so Intel RST could "see" the SSD as being available. We then gave 19 GB to the Intel RST utility and left the rest for "overprovisioning" - so that if the SSD loses capacity over time (as SSDs may do), the 19 GB cache space is unlikely to run out of space on the SSD during the life of the laptop.
Otherwise, the laptop is very well built. I have disabled most of the fancy lighting around the machine so that I can take it to meetings and not look like a gaming dork if there are others there with Macbooks or Ultrabooks. The build quality is exceptionally solid. The construction of this laptop is first-rate. The backlit keyboard is fantastic to type on, and the trackpad is well-sized and placed. It allows you to two-finger scroll just like on a Mac.
The M14x provides better performance at its price than the Precision. The Intel RST function translates into cold boot times of less than 15-20s into Windows 7 Pro, and commonly loaded software loads quickly. Not as fast as a SSD, but much faster than with just a hard drive.
Port-wise, the gigabit network port is on the right side along with two USB 3 ports. On the left, back to front, you have VGA, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, one USB 2 port, mic, headset and headphone jacks, and two card reader slots. I would have liked one more USB port on the left side.
I love the portability and performance of the M14x and it's my favourite Dell laptop to date - and this is my fifth from Dell. All five have given me exceptional service.
Pros:excellent video and disk performance, solid construction and keyboard, excellent video
When I received my Alienware M14x I instantly began installing all my programs from professional programs to popular online games, I had no problems with installation or compatibility issues, BIG THUMBS UP. Once installed I began trying the programs one by one, I was amazed at how great it performs, on games at the highest quality it was amazing, with programs that require extensive processing and graphic power such as video, photo and 3D rendering it had no problems and performed smoothly. Then the first time I turned off my M14X and turned it back on the start-up was pretty fast, not the fastest but with the load installed including a variety of programs that start-up upon boot it is pretty fast. Some downside are a loud fan, but what do you expect with such a high-performance PC and secondly some quality issues when it comes to assembly, occasionally the audio card would dislodge rendering the audio unusable, a quick fix is to put your pc to sleep and give it a light shake then open again. Overall I am highly satisfied since no major issues occurred and any problems I did have were quickly remedied. This is a great PC to own and I would recommend this to anyone.
Pros:powerful, beautiful, fast
Cons:loud fan, some assembly quality issue

I recently purchased my M14 and it is doing very good. I was extremely happy with the purchase as customer service is spectacular and the machine itself is amazing. The performance and features are decent for the price. Alienware has one of the most unique looks in the entire laptop market, and it is quite beautiful.
Pros:decent value, plays all games well, unique lights

awesome laptop so far. current games like defiance work great and runs perfectly just like on a console. would recommend to everyone.
This is a good laptop, but it has some major flaws. The speed is adequate for a gaming focused laptop. Performance around the desktop is fairly snappy - However I can't help feeling like all the 'Alienware' branded applications are hogging the system a bit. While gaming it can handle high settings, but not so much ultra or with too much anti-aliasing. The Optimus GPU switching is normally well behaved, but it often underestimates the power needed for games and seems a bit biased towards the integrated graphics For some reason however, when I play LoL, the FPS never goes above 31. And yes, I've checked that the GPU is activated. I do really like the battery life. Considering the size of the device you would expect it to have a decent sized battery, and it does. If you aren't using the GPU and have the screen brightness down a bit then you can stretch to about 7-8 hours. If you are gaming, then this goes down to about 2-3, but that's acceptable as you'll probably be plugged in. The fans are nice and quiet most of the time, and I like the soft plastic finish Dell have used. A extensive variety of ports is available and if you hand over a bit more cash, a Blu-ray drive The Keyboard is nice to use, and the speakers are better than I anticipated as well. The screen. It sucks in many different ways. The colours were a bit drab by default and the colour temperature was quite cold too. I have fixed these up a bit, but it's still not a great display. Also, if you leave it in the sun then the small section of air between the outer plastic of the lid and the actual display expands, making the lid look a bit funny and doing something with an adhesive that sticks some part of the screen to some other part. It makes strange marks and distorts the screen in places. Luckily most of that goes when you let it cool down for a bit, however there is still one blotch in the centre of the display that is visible when watching darks scenes in movies and such. Some parts of the plastic are coming away from the frame slightly, and the hinge sometimes makes funny rattling noises. Also, the body is very thick. When compared to some sleek, metal computers made by a company named after a fruit (I'm not supposed to name names) with very similar internals it seems bulky and superfluous. I don't think they have changed the chassis since the original M14x. Like the computer, the power brick seems unnecessarily huge. It is also (as expected) heavy, but there isn't much able to be done about that.
I this is a good computer but I think It could have been done much better. If they had changed the chassis, the power brick (after all, thin is in) and fitted a better screen it would've been 5 stars. As it is, it is a decent option if you like the flashy lights, aggressive styling and don't mind the weight or size.
Pros:fairly fast, good battery, many ports, speakers, nice plastic finish
Cons:screen, build quality in some areas, size, weight
Response from Dell.comBy DonaldDforDell, Customer Reviews, April 15, 2013
Hello Ignis,
Glad to hear you like the M14x's performance so much. Try not to leave it in the sun or in an environment that produces so much heat it softens ths chassis! This is not good for any electronic device. It can also have a substantial effect on the battery cells. You can always check with technical support regarding rattling and loose parts.

This is my first alienware, when purchasing the m14x you have 4 versions to build, I built the second option and upgraded the ram to 12 gigs and added a few other bells and whistles. I was able to play wow on ultra with 90latency and 89fps while downloading my entire iTunes library from icloud and downloading league of legends. That's insane! Not to mention the size, its so mobile and I'm constantly gaming at various friends houses. The lighting zones is hours of fun if your waiting on bg ques and such and the soft touch finish is icing on the cake. I will say that if you are going mobile, switch to power save mode though, it will kill the battery fast on high performance, but honestly most gamers are plugged in as is. m14x is definitely exceeding my expectations.
Hey friends if you are looking for an power full pc and its alien ware nothing is like that. I was using MacBook pro from last couple years and I want to say this system is well built and excellent performance for any thing you want to run on this pc. an audio on this system is incredible ,really guys I never heard this kind of sound and bass on any system yet! this system is worth of money and I will tell you u if you want amazing system with performance and its an alien ware.

I have used and owned many computers, desktops and laptops. This is my first Dell. It has been the best one I have had. I have had it now for almost three years and have had no problems. I upgraded to Windows 8 without a problem. The performance and reliability is second to none. I am proud to own a Dell and I will not hesitate to purchase another Dell when this one is past it's used by date.
Pros:reliable, great graphics, fast, good sound, good software, great colour, great everything
so was very excited to come home and find ive received my new alienware laptop , only to find out that something to do with the new windows system 8 wont let it start up ,and now have to wait for a cd to fix some issues. Very disappointing that this would happen with something brand new. No excuses Dell

This laptop is a big step up from my previous computer, an old Compaq desktop purchased in 2007. I purchased this computer for college and threw in almost $1200 in hardware upgrades because I hope to still be using it 4+ years from now. I'm not a big time gamer but it runs the few games I have on high-max settings smoothly, about 45fps every time. (FSX and RTC3) Despite some of the negative reviews listed here about the fan noise, I almost never hear it during average everyday use and lighter gaming. It only seems to come on during the heavy load put on it by Microsoft FlightsimX. The only problem I've had is scrolling a web page with the built in mouse, it tends to be a bit jumpy.
Pros:awesome memory 16gb, i7 upgrade is a must, keeps cool even under heavy use, keyboard is a dream to type on
Cons:battery life diminishes with keyboard lights on, battery life diminshes with a disk in the drive, blue ray drive not standard
