Review:I got this for my husband who is very, very picky and it has performed past his expectations. We have tried other film scanners with limited sucess. This scanner was a breeze to set up, and use. The negative and 35 mm scans are crystal clear and QUICK. Yes this was a great buy.

Review:I have a Dell 964 all in one unit which does scan. I choose to purchase the Epson Perfection V500 Scanner as I have several thousand photos that I am planning to scan onto DVD's. Some of these photos go back into the late 1940's which are family treasures turning into parchment. I have scanned many of these with this machine from that time period. The results were excellent. It looks like the photos were taken yesterday. Crisp and clear and now on DVD. I recently copied all of my 35mm slides and negatives onto DVD formant with another machine not knowing about this one.
I would recommend the V500 to anybody who is looking for a professional digital image.

Title: Epson V500 Date: July 2, 2009
Review:I purchased this scanner to replace a Microtek i800. The Microtek had many problems from the very first usage including dirty glass, a nagging habit of having a reddish band appear on one side after the scanner had been on for a short while. The Epson has worked perfectly from the beginning and is very, very fast relative to the Microtek. Also the color of print scans is very close to the original when set to Adobe RGB with the Epson profile. I use a calibrated Dell UltraSharp monitor. Prints from scans on an Epson R2400 are excellent. The scanner works equally well from within CS2 or as a standalone program. Especially noteworthy is the ease of making an enlargement from a scan using the Epson software (much easier than Microtek software) I use a Nikon coolscan V for film and slides and have not compared Nikon scans to Epson V500 film or slide scans. The Epson software is fine but I do use Lightroom, or Photoshop CS2 for fine adjustments, although the Epson software versitility is reasonable and does not have a steep learning curve.

I highly recommend this very easy to use scanner.

Review:This device has a simple set-up and was operation in minutes. Operational speed is acceptable. We are primarily using it to convert 35mm slides to digital prints, but the other features are excellent. This device integrates well with our Corel software.

ProsI'm 47 and my friend is 61 and we were able to pull it out of the box and immediately start scanning and storing digital pictures from negatives.
ConsThe only thing is that she had some very narrow negatives and we haven't figured out if there is a way to scan these.

Title: The scanner I've been waiting for Date: April 21, 2008
ProsScans 10 times faster than my $900 Minolta film scanner, which only worked on a Mac with a SCSI card and took forever to scan ONE slide. Now I can do four at a time! The quality is excellent, better than I expected. I was afraid to look but then I was relieved. I'm testing with B&W negatives but I can already tell it will be good.
ConsNone yet.

Review:For under $300, it's great. At any price, I would be satisfied. I have been a professional since 1986 and have sold many photos to magazines and newspapers. I shoot all digital now but I have thousands of slides and negatives. I foresee months of enjoyment using this scanner and then I won't have to worry about my shots burning up or fading over time. Even my grandfather's Kodachromes from the 60s can be digitized and emailed to family. WOW!

Title: I love it! Date: January 11, 2008
ProsSetup was easy. Software was easy to use (though some advanced features are a little hard to understand -- might have to read the manual if I decide I need them). Quickly scanned prints and negatives at the default settings, with very good results. The digital images looked as good as or better than the prints I had had made of the photos. I haven't tried the Digital Ice feature yet. Scanner was quiet, didn't require warm-up time like my old scanner did. I don't have any slides to scan, so can't comment on the performance on those.
ConsAt higher resolution scans took longer (about 6 minutes for 6 negatives at 600 dpi), but since most of my photos are not worth printing out as posters I will probably not be scanning most of my negatives at even that high a resolution, let alone higher. I really can't think of any other cons. So far I am absolutely THRILLED with this scanner.

Review:This scanner had gotten mostly good reviews, but a few negative reviews when I researched it online. I was a bit afraid to buy it because it is fairly new, and was at the high end of my price range. I have only used one other scanner before, so I don't have a lot of experience to compare this one with, but it is better than I expected, and so much better than the one I used before that they really can't even be compared.
