Yes, I would recommend this product
I am self-taught and enjoy photographing family, horses, wildlife and landscapes. In a short time I have found the Powershot is not difficult to operate and with my limited experience that's a real plus. I was very comfortable with the Canon AE-1 but this new digital experience with the Powershot brings me to a whole new level. I can now enjoy crystal clear still shots and quality HD video. The price is not bad either. I would not hesitate to recommend the Canon Powershot SX40 to anyone.

Yes, I would recommend this product
The camera takes great photos! I am loving the versatility. Since I am pretty much a begginer at using this type of camera and have been using it for less than a month, I refer to the user's guide fairly often to learn more. I got the camera in time for our family vacation and have been amazed at the quality of the photos. I am very pleased with this camera. It fits my needs well!

This is a great low end camera for Canon DSLR users. I have tried more compact cameras, but was unable to overcome the lack of quality in these, including cameras from Canon. This camera is great, simple to use, and is an overall great value.

Yes, I would recommend this product
This is a great camera, easy to use, easy to transfer pictures to computer. Plus for it is the charger is included. Only wish it came with a docking station like my Kodak did.

Gave this camera as a Mohter's Day gift and my wife loves it. Exteremely easy to use and very versitile. Exceptional pictures. The shutter speed or speed of picture taking is slower than I would like, though this is probably because it is a point and shoot camera. Highly reccomend this product.

Greetings!
I'm very happy with the PowerShot SX40 HS. I was hesitant to buy sight unseen, so I went into a few stores and luckily found a store actually had this camera charged and working. After playing with some of the features, especially the zoom, I was convinced that this was a good camera.
Buying from Dell made it easy because it offers all possible accessories (I call them side dishes) online and you don't have to deal with annoying sales people trying to push anything on you. I also get the protection plan on most electronics I buy only because I'm "Bad Luck Brian" (<some will get that joke).
I've only owned this camera for about 2 weeks, but I used it all Memorial Day Weekend and got raves from all of my family and friends about the pictures that it took. The pictures were clear and detailed, even when sitting across the room using the 35x zoom taking pictures of my 6 month old cousin. I posted a picture of some rib tips (don't droll on your keyboard)
I will advise those who are looking for something to put in your pocket that this camera comes with a larger body than a regular point and shoot would because of the zoom. But with a 35x zoom, it's smaller than a Digital SLR and gives you more than a bang for your buck especially if you're not looking to keep track of 3 different types of lenses. It came with a neck strap and I usually keep cameras around my neck, but I would suggest purchasing a bag if you're going traveling.
If you're looking for a camera with power and zoom, but not with the Digital SLR price tag, the PowerShot SX40 HS is a perfect alternative. I'm no professional, but once I get a chance to print these pictures out and hang them up, I will look like one... Kinda

Got this for my wife - neither one of us are camera buffs but we weren't satisfied with the shots we had been getting from our "CoolPix". This camera is just as easy to use and it produces quality that is orders of magnitude better.

Yes, I would recommend this product
The Canon SX40 provides beautiful photos, especially in low light. I love the 'sports' setting for capturing action photos, and I also used that setting for some night shots with low light ... really nice. I'm sure as I become more familiar with the variety of settings I'll enjoy the camera even more. The one thing I'm unhappy with is the continuous shooting mode, which is the biggest reason I purchased this camera. The tech specs say it shoots up to 10 frames per second, but I've tried a number of different settings and I can't get better than 1 frame per second. I cannot emphasize enough that this was THE selling feature for me. I'd even be happy with 3 shots per second (I don't need 10), but I can't get this camera to do it, despite what the tech specs say. If that feature is not important to you, and you want a great point and shoot camera that is simple to use and will "wow" you with clarity, then this is a great camera for you.

Let me start by saying...this is a great camera. I rely did not want to spend $600 to $1,000 on a DSLR, so i gave this a try. Next to a DSLR it the best thing out there.

Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros: The new Digic 5 processor (which on this date of review is the ONLY Digic 5 camera available with the S100 coming out soon) has made a world of difference in the ability of this camera to shoot in low light and speed. (Shoots at 10fps) Everything runs faster can pictures come out better than the previous SX30. The SX40 is a very much improved (having bought the SX30 and returned it) camera. It does everything you'd expect and the zoom is outrageous fantastic.
Cons: Yeah it's not a DSLR but then you don't need to haul around all those lenses. I have a Canon DSLR and those lenses get heavy especially the L lenses. The SX40 is a great all around travel zoom camera or for shooting things far away. Not a substitute for DSLR quality but most certainly gets you the shots that you never thought you could get. 840mm (35x) is a lot of zoom !
It also shoots full HD (1920 x 1080) and lower resolutions also.

Canon has done a wonderful job addressing the low light performance, over previous models. I have had this camera for approx 3 weeks, and have found improved performance on low light shooting, and on image stablization. This camera takes beautiful pictures. I love this camera.
