ProsSimplicity, if you are looking for the DVD equivalent player...this means..press open, load disc, press play...then, this MIGHT be a good buy for you. If you already own the PS3, you will be dissappointed in the performance of the BDP-S350. I was looking to trade my PS3 for a good BD player, that is simpler to operate for my wife and kids and has a standard remote control. Also, it had to be power efficient, quick to load discs, and be upgraded easily. This player does all that stuff well. The physical form of this is small and slim, it looks astetically pleasing mixed in with other typical home electronics. The wierd blue face might be a little out of place, but not too bad. It has plenty of connections on the back, even coaxial pre-amp outputs for discreet audio connection to your AV receiver (if so equipped).
ConsThe price has to be the worst issue. This should be at least $75 cheaper! The up-scaling is HORRIBLE in comparison to the PS3. I also have an upscaling DVD player, the Sony DVP-NS75H. Is was only $100. Why does this upscale better than the BSP-S350? I have two of the exact same Sony KDL-W4600 TVS. I hooked the PS3 up to one and the BSP-350 to the other. Played several 1080p BD action, animated and nature videos in each at the same time, as far as picture quality, PS3 wins. Compared against the DVP-NS75H..the DVP wins. Next, I will briefly mention the low resolution, UGLY, start-up banner that the BSP-S 50 has. Like other users have stated you cant'd hide the stupid info banner when playing CDs. What a drag...
Review:For the price/performance & picture quality...Go buy the 40gb model of the PS3. It's also made by Sony, in case you are a Sony loyalist. If you really need a standard remote control and want a sleek looking BD player, the BSP-S350 is a good choice. Be aware that is will not process DTS-HD Master Audio, your connected reciever will have to have a decoder for that.
