ProsStraightforward to use, very user friendly.
Solid battery life-span.
Quick start-up time.
Clear viewing monitor.
Very reasonable price.
ConsGreat for amateurs, but no advanced features for color balance, exposure, focal length, timing, etc. Screen is polarized, hard to see with some sunglasses.
Larger cameras feature a flip out screen, which you can rotate independently from the rest of the camera body so you can see the screen from pretty much any angle. This camera's screen is fixed to the body, so you pretty much have to keep it held at face level to see what you're filming. May lead to arm fatigue.
When viewing footage on a tv screen, there is a slight grid appearance to the images, probably from the compression software. Not a huge deal, doesn't translate to other programs if you export the data, just weird on tvs.
Lens cap would've been nice.
No stabalization software and only a mediocre zoom.
Review:Aside from a couple of inconveniences listed in the Cons section, the camera is a good choice for the money. With some additional software (Shake, Combustion, After Effects, etc) you can make any footage look passable--like how you can get away with a cheap still-image camera if you are proficient in Photoshop.
A good gift choice for someone thinking of starting out in videography. Definitely a starter camera, though. Will be upgrading when the money presents itself.
