FEATURED REVIEW
Title: Good GPS and Big Screen
Date: April 27, 2007
Pros(1) I really like the size of the screen (4"). I've used one other GPS in the past (i'll refrain from saying the name) and I really hated the small 3" screen. When you put the GPS at the end of your dash it's nice to still be able to read everything without squinting. (2) The GPS is extremely strong/sensitive, I would never have to worry about getting a signal. Even when I was in my home I got a signal. (3) I like the fact that it has bluetooth because I connected it to my phone and I use the Drive 140 as a headset as well as the data plan from my phone. THe benifit of this is that I use thier traffice feature (real time traffic). Cons(1) Although it does have the traffic feature it will not re-route around the heavy conjested areas, which was kind of a pain. (2) It comes with a stylus to use on the screen but there is not slot to put it. I did find a work around for this, I just took some velcro and put it on the side of the device and it works fine
Review:A good GPS that will get you from point a to point b.

Title: GPS
Date: August 29, 2007
ProsDoes just what I wanted and some things I hadn't expected . I love the GPS part with the speedometer. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it had Bluetooth and worked with my phone. The auto reroute does work rather well. I do have to get use to it talking to you. ConsBluetooth option does have some problems connecting with my phone. Once it does it works great. I don't like the no option trips. I sometimes prefer a different route than it picks and I can't change it or I haven't found out how yet. I can't visually see the route it plans, or make adjustments. It does have trouble once in a while finding satellites when it initially turns on.

Title: Texan Needs More Startup Information
Date: July 27, 2007
ProsI like the size of the screen, the clarity of the voice and what I thought was the ease of entering a route. My husband had been nagging me to get a GPS (because he can't read a map quickly enough) and I reluctantly did so. It was certainly an excellent bargain price-wise. I decided to try it out on a 600 mile trip with a stop in Vicksburg, Mississippi where I needed the driving directions. I like the fact that once you begin to put in a street address it quickly enters any street with that beginning spelling. ConsI'm considered elderly but have had a computer at the office before retiring and one at home since the computer age began. I can use about anything once I have the directions. Even the "booklet for dummies" did not answer some basic questions like, "Are the maps pre-loaded or do I load them?" I didn't have time (or memory on my computer) to download the discs. I had to call Pharos to find out how to load the maps. It worked fine the first 100 miles but shut down after that with a message against the blue screen that neither my friend nor I could read even with bifocals.
Review:Sometimes a basic 1,2,3 booklet is necessary when a customer is not familiar with all the technology involved with a device such as the GPS. I was so discouraged that I could not erase wrong addresses and the list of places is so sensitive when using the "pointer" that I entered several wrong ones and then could not get rid of them! Simplicity, please. Not all of us can "figure it out" without seeing it in writing. I think I will learn to love the GPS before a long trip to Canada next year. I will need it.

Title: Pharos GPS 140
Date: July 23, 2007
ProsLarge screen, When I got lost coming home, I haven`t lived in Florida too long, I tapped the screen for home twice, and I got perfect directions. I paid half price, which was a steal. It has as many features as those costing much more. ConsDifficulty typing in destinations without as much information as possible. Need POI, plus address, plus zip code on occasion. The other day the screen went blank and I thought I`d have to call Pharos for troublshooting. However, I located a reset button, and that solved the problem. And you must be outside to program. It doesn`t hold a charge for too long, requiring plug in to 12 volt system in vehicle.
Review:Based on what I paid for it, nothing comes close.

Title: Good GPS With Large Screen
Date: May 17, 2007
ProsStrong GPS receiver, Pre-Loaded Maps of North America, POI's, Multi-Stops, Voice Prompts, Loud Sound, Bluetooth, Real Time Traffic ConsComes with 2GB SD card (should be larger), no text-to-speech, video quality is not that good
Review:I received this product about 1 month ago and it has been extremley easy to use. I used to own an Axim with a GPS attachment but I hated having to install maps to the device. When I received this device I simply took it out of the box setup the windshield mount and started to use it. I was very impressed with the power of the GPS receiver. I can always get a signal within 30 seconds and I can even get a signal when I'm in my home (never happend with my other GPS with my axim). Another feature that I really liked was bluetooth. I was able to connect my cell phone via bluetooth and use the GPS as a handsfree device and since I have a data plan I was able to get real time traffic. One thing that I didn't like was the quality of the video. When I played a video it was very slow and the sound would not alwasy match up with the actors mouth. The 2GB card that it comes with is pretty much full because of the maps (1.5 GB). But I purchased a 4GB card and it works fine. Overall this device works extremely well for navigation and that was the main reason why I purchased it.

Title: Fair hardware, very poor software
Date: May 1, 2007
ProsBig screen; accurate, fast, GPS receiver. A hand-free device for phones with blue-tooth. ConsGPS software is almost useless. Doesn't play DivX avi files. Reflective screen makes it hard to see in sunny days. Kind of bulky.
Review:Worst GPS software I have ever used. I've used iGuidance 3 and MS Streets and Trips before. IGuidance mostly gives good route choices. MS Streets doesn't do well in local. Ostia generates routes that you'll never take. For example, I set the routes option to "Avoid Toll" and want to generate a route from Milwaukee to Chicago. It tells me to go around Madison, WI, then go to Chicago.

Title: PCMAG review
Date: April 15, 2007
ProsLarge, 4-inch screen. Sensitive GPS receiver. Built-in players for music, pictures, and videos. The Drive 140 features the 20-channel SiRF Star III GPS receiver chipset. ... the Drive 140, like all other SiRF Star III–based devices, acquired satellites quickly and maintained satellite lock – even in the middle of my office. ConsReflective screen shows fingerprints. Jerky playback of full screen WMV video files. I was pleased to see that the Drive 140 supported playback of WMV files because many other products play only the .AVI format. However, I was a bit disappointed in the playback; it seemed that every 4 or 5 seconds the video would jump a frame or two.
Review:With a nice bundle of features plus a large screen, the Pharos Drive 140 GPS is well-appointed, but text-to-speech functionality and improved POI handling would greatly improve this product.

Title: I like its hand-free calling feature
Date: April 11, 2007
ProsI particularly like its bluetooth hand-free calling function. It lets me make or answer a phone call from this device while driving. Speaker is loud and clear. I like this safety feature. Its 4" screen helps a lot since I am approching retirement age. Navigation is rather stright forward once I played with it a while. It always leads me to my destinations. ConsThe device is a little big and old style (but still quite portable). User interface of its navigation software is rather flat, no fancy icons, not colorful, just big text instructions on simple rectangular buttons. No text-to-speech.
Review:User maunual says this device plays MP3 and video; I have never tried. Who care? My car stereo sounds better and I don't watch movie on the road anyway.

Title: Disappointed in Texas

ProsNo pros at all. ConsThis product has to be the worst ever. We have had to reset this device everyday since we purchased it. When it does manage to work it switches to play downloaded videos or audios.

Title: not user friendly
Date: January 19, 2007
Prosgood size, and voice ConsWe took a trip to Orlando and it took to long to put in street address's, and the picture wasn't detailed very well, we made several wrong turns because of this, and sometimes the voice command didn't work till you were right on the road you should have took! By the middle of our trip I was ready to throw this GPS out the window and I didn't trust the directions given because when we would type in the correct address it took us twice to dead end areas! I hope Dell will let me trade out this GPS

Title: Drive GPS 140

ProsBluetooth, MP3 player and picture viewer. Unit has a nice screen and good audio. ConsRequires too many resets. Switches to different modes without touching any of the buttons. Very hard to enter addresses without using the included stylus. No place on the unit or the window mount to store the stylus. Volume/scroll button very hard to use. Garmin is way easier to use.
