Title: New to GPS Date: June 19, 2007
ProsEasy to use right out of the box, as I mentioned, we are new to GPS devices, so I don't have much knowledge to compare companies or models, but it seems very useful and practical. Have done some experimenting with routes we were familiar with and it seemed to be right on the money as far as routing the best way to go, sometimes showing us ways that were indeed faster that we would have previously overlooked or not considered. Good Value, can't wait to travel to see how it handles long trips!
ConsOnly thing worth mentioning, wish it showed an over view map of a trip that you are routing, not just written description, but it's a small thing, have not used the extra features on the device so I can't really rate them yet.

Review:We are interested in how it would work in an off road trail situation (Hiking, Hunting, etc.) Seems to only show road maps which are not much use in a trail situation, but have not tried this yet.

Title: The best Value GPS Date: June 15, 2007
ProsText to voice - turn by turn navigation with street names announced.
Water Proof - if you have kids or if you need to use it with moon roof open
Rugged build - Kids or just for those accidental drops
Map - US and Canada
Screen - Bright enough and touch screen
Colors: Uses basic colors which helps for a quick differentiation in the map. I had been using three times expensive Garmin C580 and the screen resolution was far superior in terms of the graphic elements than this Magellan 2200. However I noticed while driving the basic color schemes rather helped to identify and differentiate far quicker in Megallen than high resolution GPS due to the simple fact that you see less details (without details that you don't need while navigating.)
ConsScreen resolution is not the best but just enough for navigation
The design is aesthetically less pleasing but blends well in a sports or rugged cars/suv/bilkes.
The mounting hardware is not flexible to fit different mounting locations but holds good and strong.

Review:Best value for money.

Title: Magellan GPS 2200T Date: May 29, 2007
ProsI love this product. I have used it on numerous occassions and have had great success with it--only one issue--see below. I am really not into the MP3 player or picture viewer, but I have tried both features and they are adequate. My favorite feature is the detour option. I was made to exit a well used highway because of an accident, and without this GPS, I would have been totally lost and never would have arrived at my destination if I used Mapquest or some other mapping/direction website.
ConsI was going to a destination on which the routes to get there have had construction done during the last 2 years. The maps were therefore not updated. I got to the general vicinity but had to stop and ask for directions to my final destination.

ProsIts very easy to use, even for novices. The units suction cup and bracket seemed to be designed for a unit with more weight, so it holds very solid. Picture is nice and easy to see. MP3 and picture capability is nice.
ConsSpeaker quality isnt the best, a little weak on the volume. So forget mp3 playing in the car unless you have an FM transmitter.

Review:I'd buy it over again.

ProsThe 2200T is one amazing gps. The ease and versitility of this product is its best quality. I have used it on several trips and it has not failed to steer me to my destinations. The entire family enjoys using it. I especially like the address feature and the way it maintains a battery charge. I find this feature a real advantage on long trips eventhough I can use the automobile power auxillary cord. I can find no fault with the 2200T.
ConsNone

Proscan excluse roads from routes,
Conslong start up time, wrong directions, wrong distances, warns of turns after you pass the turn. had one home depot in NJ when there are a lot around Westchester County so POI is pathetic. Customer service poor, long hold times and then speak for over one hour to hear try it again tomorrow. Call back next day and say same problems, get disconnected, no call back after giving home number, call back for supervisor, one will call back within 48 hours. Ha. Sent back to Dell who was nice and bought a Garmin which my associates have and love.

Review:Don't let the other review fool you, i am not one to complain and this is a piece of equipment that should not be sold.

Title: Magellan Roadmate 2200T GSP device Date: April 9, 2007
ProsI usually do not take the time to do such reviews, but I was so impressed with this unit that I felt I needed to contribute my assessment. I had reviewed, casually, the user manual on-online, but found that this was not necessary in order to master the basic use of the unit straight out of the box. (I was, however, glad that I had already read that it was necessary to have the "re-set" button in an "up" position in order for the unit to turn on; it would have been very frustrating not to have known this before-hand). With no learning curve, I was able to input my destination, start driving, and be correctly directed to that destination. When I made errors to test the system (which, I am sure, anyone who first uses a GSP device does), the unit automatically announced that it was "re-calculating" a new route, and within less than 10 seconds a new corrective route had been determined. I was very impressed with the specific Points of Interest that were available close to my current location; it would be hard to starve or run out gas using the POI's that are built in to the unit. The "text-to-speech" capabilities were excellent; the street names were always clearly understandable, and the voice was more than loud enough at all times. In fact, the voice announcements were so user-friendly, that I did not even mount the unit on the windshield or dash so that I could see the screen; I just laid in into a recessed opening in my console. Even in this position, the satellites had no difficulty finding my unit, and the thoroughly clear voice instructions made seeing the screen un-necessary. I haven't started to test the extensive options available yet, since none of these added features were necessary for the basic operation, but the range of options is quite large; learning more about these options seems to be the only reason to have to look in the user manual, in fact.
An unexpected benefit of our purchase was that an AC adapter, although not listed as being included with the unit, was included in the box. In fact, since it was included, I was able to cancel a separate purchase of an AC adapter that I had made through another company- this saved about $30.00.
ConsAfter having given an instruction (such as "turn right at Smith Avenue in .5 miles"), the unit did not necessarily repeat this exact instruction at the point at which I needed to actually make that turn; if I falied to remember that I needed to make a right turn, I was forced to glance at the map to see which way the arrow-icon pointed for this turn. (There is a menu option, which I had not yet read about fully, that causes the voice to repeat the last instruction spoken- perhaps this would have solved this problem); at any rate, if I did fail to make the correct turn, the unit would re-calculate a correction almost immediately, so even this was not really a major problem.

Review:For the price ($319), I believe this is the best bargain that I have found in a long time.

ProsThis little beauty does all as advertised...it's easy to program addresses into...the amazing thing about it is if you miss a turn, no fear, it corrects itself and plots a new map with directions to get you where you want to be.
ConsA little tricky at first to get it to charge and turn on....other then that I can think of nothing.

ProsI Travel the five boros of New York City [Manhatten, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Staten Island]. Plus Long Island, New Jersey, and upstate New York. This product right out of the box has saved me time, money, and stress. I did extensive research on the GPS products on the market and the Magellan 2200T far surpassed what I was looking for at the price. It then delivered everything it was advertised to do. If this product can get a person around lower New York without glitches it can certainly work anywhere. It is easy to use and using the points of interest is a great time saver. I use it locate telephone numbers of neighborhood fast food, and regular restuarants instead of calling information or using phone books. It truly is one of best electronic devices ever invented.
ConsNot one con in my book.

ProsI think this system is worth every penny. I have used it several times to drive in and out of large cities (i.e. New York and Boston) and it has worked great every time. The re-routing and the detour feature also work really well as if you miss a turn it redirects you almost instantly!
ConsThe biggest (and only) downside I have seen with this system has been how slow it connects to the GPS satellites on startup. I have seen it take a couple of minutes to link on startup, which can be a real pain if you need to jump in your car and start going in an unfamiliar place.

Review:Great product for the price!
