Title: New to N Wireless Date: February 5, 2008
ProsThe ease in which setup occured, thanks to the install disk, was tremendous. This router works very well in my three-story building.
ConsThe price was a little higher than I have seen from other products of similar nature, but I have always trusted Linksys so it was worth the extra cost.

Review:There are many other brands available for purchase and for a Tech person they may be great, but Linksys is designed for the common-user and has never failed to meet expectations.

Title: Easy to install but questionable performance Date: January 21, 2008
ProsEasy to install.
ConsConnection sometimes difficult to make and drops out.

Review:I installed the router on a desktop running XP and wirelessly to a laptop running Vista. After the horror stories I'd read about installation, I was quite pleased with the ease of installing the router. There was only one problem with an Ethernet connection, but was solved by pushing on the connector. Not having had a router previous to this one, it is hard to make a comparison. But, the reason I bought this model was I was looking for reliable wireless connection for the laptop at longer distances than a G-router. Although the speed seems ok, the connection sometimes does not make and sometimes drops out. Also, the signal strength seems lower than I would have expected, even at about 50 feet away (two or three bars). Perhaps there is some way to optimize this, but having done all that was obviously reccommended, this is the best I could get.

Title: Very happy with this product!!! Date: September 18, 2007
ProsWorks great, range is great, signal is strong anywhere in my house. Installation advisor helps with setup showing you step by step with animation (provided you have XP or vista). I recommend this to all students (college and grad) looking for a fast, secure router because its the best for your bucks, of which there are few.
ConsInstallation took me a couple of hours, I think 2, only because I am computer stupid and I couldn't figure out how to secure my wireless signal, but I got it eventually. But its working now, running smooth, no problems whatsoever. Since this was so easy, I am ready to set up my printer wirelessly!

ProsI have the 1505 notebook with Vista. After setting it up everything seems to be working fine. Range also seems to be what I need. (Router is in the basement with no problems.)
ConsI set up my desktop with no problem, but the notebook took some help. I first called router tech support and after about an hour. It still wasn't working. THey said it was a problem with the firewalls of either vista or norton anti virus.
I then called Dell, which is what I recommend. Don't waist your time, just call them. Let them take controle of your computer and fix whatever they have to.

Review:Call Dell Directly, don't waist your time with the Routers Tech Suport.

Title: Very pleased with my Linksys router! Date: June 21, 2007
ProsGood looks and design (although I have read some complaints from others about the color scheme). I personally like the router color scheme. It was very easy to set up using the setup wizard on the CD Rom. It ihas a very fast speed, and the range is even better than I anticipated. I have a multi-level home, and can take my laptop downstairs or outside on the back deck at the far end of the house and still have no interference or signal problem. Friends who have had other routers have told me the range on this Linksys is superior to other models. Another plus for me was the customer service when I had to call Linksys to help with the security settings. The few calls I had to make were handled promptly, the techs i spoke with were knowledgeable and helpful, and although they initially could not find a solution to the problem I was experiencing, we eventually worked through it and discovered that Vista had such tight security settings already that they were interfering with the firewall built into the router. Once this was resolved with help from the Linksys technical support staff, my network was able to be secured and has worked like a charm ever since. I have only had this router for a few months now, but would definitely recommend it to others who are considering a wireless network.
ConsOccasionally the signal interrupts and I will have to reconnect to the network, but that just takes a couple of clicks of the mouse to accomplish. The one problem I initially had after setting up the router was with the security settings. I have a new Dell Inspiration laptop running on Windows Vista, and the security settings built into the laptop would not allow me to connect to the internet after setting up a secured network. The problem turned out to be, as indicated above, that the firewall built into the Linksys router was conflicting with the security settings installed in Vista, so the computer settings were easily adjusted to allow for the router's firewall to do its job

Review:I did some research on different brands and models of wireless routers before i selected the Linksys with my new Dell laptop. Although some of the product reviews seemed to lean toward Belkin as a better router, I talked to friends who have a Belkin and were not all that happy with their router. Even better, after they visited and brought their laptop and used my wireless network here at my home, they said the Linksys router's range was much better than the Belkin model they owned. When I selected the Linksys, I was wary because of some of the reviews I had read, but now I am totally sold on the Linksys router that I bought and would not exchange it for another brand no matter what the cost. I highly recommend this router.

Title: Works for me Date: June 11, 2007
ProsEasy setup. Works simultaneously with several different generations of wireless technology. Built in NAT device support.
ConsUgly

Review:I have had a wireless home network for several years now, the first incarnation coming along with the advent of 802.11G technology and at this point I have several different "generations" of technology represented within my network.
I still have my first D-Link desktop card, a newer Dell laptop with a G card installed. an Xbox, a PS3, a Sunrocket VOIP Gizmo directly connected to the router and another desktop configured as an HTPC also directly connected to the router.
I tried everything D-Link has in the way of "N" routers, up to and including their top of the line DIR-655 with varying levels of problems including; inability to have differing security levels on my different devices and inability to have my VOIP service Gizmo behind the router which is something I absolutely demand.
When I finally gave up and expanded my search, I went with Linksys because Sunrocket has 2 Gizmos, 1 being made by Linksys and I figured if all else failed, I could ask them to replace the Gizmo I have with the one from Linksys, hoping that would eliminate compatibility issues.
The Gizmo is an NAT device and the WRT300N has a specific setting to allow or deny NAT traffic. I checked the box, the phone works, end of story. Whereas my older D-Link router allowed my older receivers to run at simple WPA security and those capable to take advantage of newer WPA 2 security, the new D-Links just could not do this requiring me to lower the security level of ALL connected equipment.
With the Linksys, I again have the ease of running WPA 2 security while the router allows my legacy cards to access with basic WPA.
My Intel wireless on my laptop shows the signal level in the taskbar and while the D-Link always showed "full" reception, the Linksys will vary from full to 2 and even 1 bar of reception at times. However, while I had difficulty sitting on my patio with the D-Link and would have to move and adjust until I could get a usable signal, the Linksys has been able to supply a solid signal anywhere I've gone on my property, regardless of the "level" indicated in the taskbar. The only exception would be if I go down the street, the bar will drop to zero and so will my ability to access my network.
The bottom line here is, for me, the WRT300N did what 3 other routers could not. Namely, it brought me, my 3 PC's, my gaming systems and my phone service over to the new 802.11N technology. On top of that, it did it with as little fuss as I could have possibly hoped for, making me sorely regret all those wasted hours trying to get the "other" stuff to work.
