Title:
Nice product...when it turns on.
PostedJanuary 25, 2008
No, I do not recommend this product.
I have not used any of these Palms extensively but the employees that still have working units like them a lot. One thing I noticed i liked about them was the stylus is thick and heavy and therefore easy to write with. The users of the 2 units that stopped working say the Palms suffered no traumatic impacts or anything of that nature but who knows...
Pros:I'm a System Administrator looking for some PDAs to get for some of my employees. After extensive research I concluded that this Palm had some of the best features for the price. However...
Cons:Of the 8 I bought, within 4 months 2 of them have stopped working. Totally. Palm One tech support refused to even talk to me when they found out the units were passed their 90 day warranty.

Seriously flawed

No, I do not recommend this product.
I like Palm but their refusal to fix the badly broken software in this version of the Pilot has me thinking about alternatives.
Pros:I'm a long-time user and a fan of the Palm interface, and this version contains much of what makes the Palm so useful. Good interface to basic functions.
Cons:1. The search function is completely broken. It returns the first 8 matches, but if you try to scroll down the list of matches, it repeats those 8... you can't see any more. Want to remind yourself who's in your address book from Chicago? If there's more than 8 contacts, you're out of luck. I can't believe Palm refuses to fix this, and I'm surprised it hasn't come up in the other reviews.
2. Why did they have to invent TWO new electrical connectors, one for the charger and one for the data connection? My Blackberry uses a standard mini-USB connection to do both. Why keep things simple when you can make them proprietary?
3. The processor is supposed to be fast but data entry is meaningfully slower than in earlier 'less advanced' versions of the Palm. The lag is small but sometimes a little disorienting when I'm inputting a lot of information.

If you use the device without attempting to Hot sync to your computer or downloading additional software it is fine on it's own. Otherwise expect some difficulty.
Pros:Easy to use and feels comfortable.
Cons:Hot sync is complicated and requires a more in depth knowledge or experience with the operation. I am having problems with sync-ing the device but it offers no explanation as to why it is not working.

Pros:I thought this was extremely easy to use. Info from my old Palm downloaded without any problem. I have Vista and it worked fine with it. I love the ease of downloading photos. It's like having a digital frame in my purse! I would recommend this for amyone who wants a simple Palm/handheld.
Cons:Haven't found any yet.

Tungsten E2-NOT compatible with Vista!
PostedJune 20, 2007
No, I do not recommend this product.
Pros:All the great features of PALM handhelds... once they get it to work with VISTA!
Cons:It crashed as soon as I tried to hot-synch it!!! Totally useless if you have VISTA operating system. Palm's website clearly states that it is not compatible. Unfortunately, those who sold it to me were not aware of this! Buyer BEWARE!

Overall it is a great handheld.
Pros:The documents to go feature is great. The Tungsten E2 is much more user friendly than older Palms. I like the grafitti 2 and wish there were more applications where writing directly on the screen was an option.
Cons:I miss the small keyboard on the earlier Tungsten. Perhaps my writing style isn't "standard" but the Tungsten only recognizes my writng about 50% of the time.

Crashed after less than 2 years
PostedMay 9, 2007
Yes, I would recommend this product
Got this to replace my Vx in June 2005. Had a series of times when it would just not turn on and would need a hard or in-cradle reset. About 10 in the past 2 years. Last week after synching one day, it started looking for infra-red device and turning on the key-lock. Screen then went black , never to be revived again. Called Palm, was told I could send it in for repair for $129 or $149. The cost of a new one at Dell is $189. Go figure.. Thing is.. based on reviews out there, there are not that many PDAs listed as better.
Pros:Functionality was pretty simple to get. Similar to Vx. Expansion card useful for addon data
Cons:Crashed after less than 2 years. !! Also, the buttons alway got stuck when depressed. Told this to Palm, said they hadn't gotten any complaints.

Pocket Computer
PostedApril 21, 2007
Yes, I would recommend this product
Pros:It does everything, I change something on my computer, it puts the changes in the sync folder to go to the palm, and vice versa. The operation manual is on the unit so you never lose it. Have a question on how to use a feature on the palm, you just pull up the help file. I haven't finished learning all the features. It fits in your pocket very well. I wish I had purchased one a long time ago. This is my first palm and it was very easy to load and get started. Now I can't put it down.
Cons:When writing some letters on the pad, it thinks it is another. An "a" sometimes comes out as a "g" or a "q". But it is easy to back space and fix.

Nice little PDA , easy to use . Tech support for Palm One is outstanding if you have difficulty with configurations . I like the Tungsten E2 handheld PDA so much better then Dell's AXIM X51 X51V . The price is good for the Tungsten , nice features with this product . It's a great buy !

Pros:This handheld has been easy to use and is good for those of us who are not computer/electronics experts. The Tungsten is good for organizing your calendar, etc.
Cons:The setup and instructor guide needs clearer/ better directions on how to synchronize with Microsoft. I missed that step when setting up and haven't found it yet.

If all you need this for is as an office organizer then this is a perfect handheld. If you want to have multimedia options you will need to upgrade as that is what I am doing.
Pros:This is a great handheld for use in offices. A great office organizer.
Cons:Multimedia has a very slow performance. Could not watch a movie (would not play smoothly). This is why I rated it so low. It was not what I needed it for.
