Title: Excellent for the money
|
Date: June 23, 2008
|
ProsVista makes this run slow when with the memory it has. XP is fast.Switched to XP and it's better. People say it should have this and that, Well for the price I paid why complain!!! Dell has a budget too!
ConsStandard battery doesn't last long. Vista operating system makes the laptop run slow. XP is a better choice.
Review:I had already upgraded to the maximum memory and Vista is slow. I switched to XP. This laptop does the job. I had another laptop years ago from Dell and it cost me $399.00 also and was excellent.

Pros- Pretty good value for the price

Title: Excellent value. A real solution.
|
Date: May 28, 2008
|
ProsI'm a software developer in Indianapolis. This is a fully-functional machine excellent for business use, software development, usual graphics and low-end gaming, etc. An excellent value for the money (Package: Sempron 2 Ghz, 1 Gig memory, 80 G hard drive, 56 Watt-hr battery all for $400 plus tax.) Very nice screen. Graphics snappy enough. Four USB 2.0. LAN and WLan built in. Everything seems to work great. Power management seems to work OK in both suspend and hibernate mode. Nice QUIET fan. Highly recommended as a WinXP machine even with lowest-end processor offered.
ConsShould make a 7200 RPM drive available as an option. Keyboard a bit mushy. Dell keyboard layout if not used to it already (I owned an older Inspiron and for me it was a no-change situation).
Review:The first thing I did was wiped the XPHome partition, installed XPPro (using volume license CD), and upgraded to SP3. Downloaded the latest drivers from Dell support. Installed the latest Radeon video drivers from ATI/AMD (nice additional features, including "virtual desktop" resolution up to 2048x1536 which is fab for situations where you need lots of visual real-estate to pan over). All steps went well, no hitches. This is a GREAT machine for the money. Just a simple Sempron 2Ghz processor (25 Watt power draw for very good battery life). I've only used this a week so I cannot speak on durability. Hopefully the breaking-hinge problem that plagued Inspirons of years gone by is a solved problem by now.

Title: GREAT Laptop for the price
|
Date: May 27, 2008
|
ProsI almost always have purchased high end computers (always from Dell). I was looking for a non-work laptop that I could use for everyday web surfing; emailing; general non power use. I was a bit leary about how well a sub $400 laptop would work but was extremely surprised how well the laptop has performed 6 months in to ownership. If you buy this laptop it's a must to have the 9 cell battery. For the purpose of use, this Laptop is an ideal companion.
ConsFor the price there really is no drawback. You must understand that a few bells & whistles will be missing but a small price to pay for what you get!

Title: excellent buy
|
Date: May 25, 2008
|
ProsI loved this pc. I bought it with vista home basic with 2gb ram and dvd writer for 499. I had never bought from dell but I have not had any problems with mine, other than an occassional downlaod to update programs or drivers. And the customer service was excellent. I plan on buying from dell in the future, I like having options like the home basic which I cant find elsewhere.
Consthe only thing i dont liek about my computer is thet is doesnt have an volume buttons on the casing, you have to use the volume in windows. But for the price and quality i can live with it.

Title: Dell Vostro 1000
|
Date: May 19, 2008
|
ProsEasy to Use Good processing power Crisp, clear screen Lots of hard drive space Lots of RAM
ConsA little heavy Average battery life
Review:This Dell Vostro 1000 is my first laptop and my first Dell. My previous two desktops were Emachines and were sub-par. I really like this little machine. It opens programs fast, it's never hot, it's quiet, and it really does the minimal tasks that I need one quick and in a hurry. This is probably not the machine for a hardcore WoW or other rpg gamer, but it's great for my minimal uses and school work.

Pros1. Amazingly sturdy and reliable 2. Excellent value for money 3. You can still get Windows XP on it 4. Looks great in spite of being a tad on the heavier side
Cons1. Dell should have more color options for Vostro 2. Nothing else...so far...I bought it 4 months ago and I am very happy with it.

Title: All that I needed!
|
Date: May 17, 2008
|
ProsNice design, feels sturdy, well-placed drives and ports, screen is clear and wide, sound is great, has run everything I've wanted very smoothly, had no trouble hooking up to internet, quick start-up, overall very pleasing.
ConsMy only problem was that a time or two I accidentally left it on for long periods of time, while I was at work or out, and I returned to a blue screen claiming a memory dump. It always returned to normal after rebooting so I just recommend making sure that you turn your computer off when you're not using it.
Review:Before buying a laptop I did a lot of thorough research, reading reviews and hunting for deals, and I was lulled into the thought that I required a lot more expensive features and space than I really did! But I finally decided to try out a basic Dell just to see if it would work for me and I am extremely glad that I didn't pay $100-$200 more for a fancier computer that would be loaded down with things I don't need and more hard drive than I could ever use. My little Dell has worked wonderfully for me, from watching movies to surfing the internet, to play World of Warcraft and various other PC games flawlessly. So don't get sucked into thinking you'll need more than you really do!

Title: Good value and performance

ProsVery good performance with XP home. Don't know how it would work with Vista as I'm not that pleased with Vista on my desktop. Easy to work with.
ConsCould have more ports built in, such as s-video.

Title: Great new assistant!
|
Date: April 29, 2008

ProsComfortable keyboard, ease of operation. Screen size is perfect. I'm not very tech-savvy but had no trouble loading software, etc.
ConsScreen does pick up glare which is annoying if you're somewhere that you can't control the light.

Title: Fast, realiable, and loaded laptop for a good $$
|
Date: April 29, 2008
|
ProsThis laptop is made in a way that it's hard to break it. Screen latch won't break, hinges are very durable, screen doesn't bend while opening. I really like it's ergonomy; even though, it's 15 inch screen laptop. It's a fast machine with high performace for home/office and small business use. Option of high capacity battery helps when you need to use it in the place where you don't have access to power source - it keeps going when you need it the most and it won't 'die' on you when you're in the middle of presentation or work. DVD writer and memory card reader can do magic when you need to burn pictures that you just took, or make a DVD/CD for a customer. I'm absolutely happy with this purchase ;)
ConsI'm using it for only over 2 months and I haven't found any problems with it yet.
Review:I would love it in Tablet edition, but Dell has so many different laptops in many configurations that my wish will come true with next purchase.

Title: Great Buy
|
Date: April 29, 2008

ProsThis is a great deal. It's not the best computer out there, but it's one of the best computers for it's price. It's light and the regular battery (with no upgrades) last up to 3 hours. The 2GB ram is nice. And most games do ok on this computer.
ConsI have to agree that hte laptop looks very cluncky. It is also very plastic.

ProsFor the money, I can't believe there is another machine that gives the value of this one. Very sharp graphics and large screen are really a help to someone whose eyesight is not what it once was.

Title: Great Laptop
|
Date: April 29, 2008
|
ProsI love this laptop because it is clean, streamlined, and easy to use. The battery lasts as long as it is said to last. The size is perfect for travel. The price I paid cannot be beat by any other company.
ConsThe wireless card does not work as well as I hoped it would work. Microsoft Word is purchased as a VERY expensive add on. Otherwise, this computer rocks.
Review:I would definitely recommend this laptop for work and personal use. I feel that it travels well and is very durable. Great investment!
