Title: Dell Inspiron 530
Date: July 20, 2008
ProsComputer works almost flawlessly, and has more then enough speed. Have had no problems with Windows Vista compatibilities or otherwise. Shipping was quite fast, arrived about a week before Dell's estimated arrival. Was a little worried about pre-loaded software, but as far as I can tell was minimal and easily gotten rid of (google desktop and mcafee), and the computer is ready to go as soon as you can boot it up. ConsI'm not sure if this is common with newly loaded PCs, but I was surprised to find that while checking for driver updates both the monitor and video card found newer drivers. Shutdown can sometimes be slow (30 seconds or so) after using certain programs. Apparently if a program is hanging in the background, Windows Vista will give it some time to remedy itself and will appear to have ignored your command to shut down and be locked up, but if left alone (i.e. no mashing of buttons) will eventually shut down.
Additional ThoughtsReally happy with this computer, wasn't sure if the 128MB ATI video card would suffice, but as far as Windows Vista and games like 1701 A.D. are concerned, it's good enough. This computers used mainly for day-to-day things like web browsing, microsoft office work, and occasional games, and is really smooth and problem free. As far as fan noisiness goes, yes it's loud for the first 2 seconds during start up but then is unnoticeable afterwards.

Title: Great value, but stability issues from day one
Date: July 12, 2008
ProsAmazing value. Couldn't find another desktop package w/ 22" monitor, 3Gb memory and Pentium Quad processor at this price. (Note: selection options in this review didn't have "Quad" processor, but that is what I have). ConsI opted for the ATI 2600 Pro video card and it's been giving me problems since day one. Power supply may be to blame as it's only rated at 350watts. Also, computer's fan is VERY loud when starting up, but quiets down soo after. Still, it's loud enough to wake someone up. And the blue internal light is too bright. I generally don't shut my computer off at night, so it does bother me when I have all the lights off and trying to go to sleep.
Additional ThoughtsThis computer really is an amazing value, no doubt. Just wish they tested it enough to realize that with the ATI 2600PRO video card, it's very unstable when playing video for a period of time. Usually when I play a DVD it freezes at about an hour into it. One day, it totally froze on me and everytime I rebooted I got a bunch of vertical lines on the screen. Had to get them to replace the video card, and it worked fine for a few weeks after, but the freezing on video playback came up again. My guess is that it's overheating due of the weak power supply unit it came with. I've decided to upgrade my PSU to a better quality brand with at least 450watts. Keeping fingers crossed...

Title: Great price, limited upgradablity
Date: July 6, 2008
Pros$$$$$$ - the computer was great for the price. got the Q6600, 2GB ram, 500GB HD, DVD-RW, wireless card, integrated graphics and 22" monitor with pic/mic, plus speakers all for 900 after tax. Wanted a basic computer that could be user upgraded. Bought aftermarket Nvidia 9600 card to complete system, thou the integratated graphics is good enough and cannot tell a difference on Vista. Will compare later with some games Cons1. Loud CPU fan.... LOUD. I might have to upgrade the heatsink and cpu fan if it gets too annoying. Possible problem with CPU temp monitor as it shows two of my cores at 68 degrees and another 2 at 37 degrees. 2. Limited onboard bios adjustability. Cannot adjust fan speeds to make it quite. 3. Power supply was only 350 watts, ended up upgrading to run the nvidia graphics card. No need to upgrade if you are keeping it stock 4. Only 1 PCIe slot. Cannot run SLI graphics in future
Additional ThoughtsThis system is great for the average home user and you can't beat the price. If you are just using windows, word processing, web browsing, this system is fine - even with the stock video card. However, if you are looking to upgrade it for gaming, I'd recommend buying something else. You can probably upgrade this to a basic gaming system like I have but its not meant for gamers. I think the most annoying thing is the loud cpu fan. Will probably have to replace it. Its not super annoying but enough that I dont keep mine on when I sleep, but I'd turn it off anyways to save energy in today's high energy costs......

Title: Great purchase
Date: June 26, 2008
ProsVery fast with core 2 quad processor, 3 gb of Ram, and spacious with 500gb harddrive.
This computer is also very easy to set up, about 30 or less depending on how excited you are. Also, the internet is preinstalled, so all you have to do is click it to be online! ConsThis isn't a con, but it took me a while to figure out how to use the webcam. All you have to do is install the 2 webcam cd's then play around to see how the webcam works. I just haven't tried video chatting yet. . .
Additional ThoughtsI liked this because it had all the features I wanted, plus this was the only computer customizable with XP.
The only thing I had a hard time with was the 22'' monitor. After using a 15'' laptop, this seemed gigantic. But the good thing is that the large screen is good for watching movies and you can always make the screen resolution smaller for surfing the net, etc.

ProsVery happy with the way it runs. Very few problems, this is a really good unit for the price we paid for it. ConsThe internet explorer would't shut down and the customer service representative look at it and took care of the problem, and sometimes it freezes when it goes idle. Those were the only problems.
Additional ThoughtsI would recomend this computer to anyone, dell makes a great computer and I would definatly shop with them again.

Title: Great value for money
Date: June 20, 2008
ProsI bought the Inspiron 530 desktop for home use and have no regrets. It's great value for money and suits my purpose. I would recommend it to anyone. I'm glad I went for the XP option having read other revues and have no regrets. Great service from Dell also. Kept fully updated and delivered on time. ConsMay seem too good to be true but I can't think of any cons!

Title: Great for Gamers
Date: June 11, 2008
ProsSolidly built, reliable, easy to work inside, has a PCI-e video power connector with plenty of juice for high-end video cards. ConsCould use more rear USB ports. See my notes on extra-large video cards, below.
Additional ThoughtsI've set up three Inspiron 530's as gaming machines, and they've worked very well. Be aware that a long, double-wide video card with a squarish (rather than rounded) plastic cooling shell will block 2 (or 1, if you use an angled-connector SATA cable) of the 6 internal SATA ports -- only an issue if you plan to install a LOT of internal drives.
Pros1. very fast and high performance Intel quad core 2.4ghz and 3GB memory! does not slow down when i am multitasking 2. customizable and upgradeable (I upgraded the graphics you have to do that because the integrated one doesn't even have a 3. dvi port and can't play blu ray or hd dvd or do high quality gaming basically if you do not you computer will become worthless and if you do it will become great) runs much cooler and more quiet than my previous pc 4. stylish and modern design 5. vista and the roxio dvd maker software is awsome and so is ms works come with everything i need cause i don't do a lot of "boring" office things no longer need to pay 200 for MS Office ConsNONE WHAT SO EVER
Additional ThoughtsBUY IT JUST MAKE SURE TO GET DEDICATED GRAPHICS

Title: Inspiron 530 - Great Computer Minus the Case
Date: May 23, 2008
ProsVery fast, screaming actually compared to the computer it replaced, a Dimension 4550. I still like that fact that at Dell you can customize the computer. I added the graphics card to a Radeon ATI XT 2600. Had plenty of monitors so that saved me. As well. Like it so much, replaced another to replace my wifes 4550. XP vs Vista!! ConsThe case. The 4550 has a case that is really easy to work in. This one feels and acts cheap. The ATA was a change for me, had to upgrade all my drives, thank goodness they are cheap!!!
Additional ThoughtsI use this to play games (Sports, MOH, etc.) which are intensive on graphics, internet, etc. Never an issue as far as speed and what I can run. I got it with XP, would like to embrace Vista, but can't due to it's bad press.

ProsFast, really fast. Although I know that I'm not using everything this chip can do. It's really fast. I can't wait to add my graphics card. And then things are really going to get out of control. The monitor is really cool. ConsI can't run CoD 4 with the intergrated video. I kinda knew that before I tried it. But I gave it a shot anyway.
Additional ThoughtsIf you're looking for a computer for around $700 (I paid $705). You can't go wrong.

Title: Excellent Value for Budget Office or Gamer
Date: May 3, 2008
ProsHardware, Price, Value ConsVista, Noise
Additional ThoughtsDuring the past few weeks, I had the chance to play with my new purchase an offer an opinion. The system has the following OEM configuration: Intel 2.4 Q6600, 500GB Western Digital SATA HD, Lite-On DVD-RW, 3GB DDR2 RAM, 350w Lite-On Power Supply, and Windows Visa Home Premium. Overall, I am very impressed with the quality of the OEM hardware that Dell selected. If you priced out all the components and purchased them individually, it would cost about $75 more than the price I paid. When you add the operating system, motherboard, case, and one year onsite support, it was a great value. To sum it all up, everything works like a charm. The onboard audio is great and the video will work for desktop applications, just keep in mind that it does not come with a DVI output. Since I run dual 19" monitors and play games from time to time, I ordered an 8800GS video card. The system runs Vista without any issues and makes a good enthusiast gaming rig. The case design will not allow more than 2 hard drives and only one hard drive will fit if you have a long video card like the one mentioned. When it comes to noise, the stock Intel cooler is it's usual loud self under load. Use MS Office or surfing does not tax the processor, so the fan is fairly quiet. However, put a load on it as any of the newer DX10 games do, and it spins up like a turbine. For about twenty dollars, there are several solutions that would easily replace the Intel cooler and made this a good choice for a home theater PC. Expansion will allow up to four SATA devices (2 are already used for the hard drive and DVD) and 2 PCI-e cards. The main PCI-e slot is 16x and the secondary is 1x, so if you have any thoughts for dual video cards (other than PCI), this system is not accomodating. Dell allows you to choose XP or Vista at the moment. Vista is a good OS, but XP is better as I am writing this review. Unless you feel the need to play DX10 games, stick with XP. Several applications that are supposed to be Vista compatible lock up from time to time and the OS feels slightly slower than my Windows XP system due to all the eye candy. In summary: If you are able to purchase this system with the typical stacked coupons from Dell and are able to take advantage of the free shipping and support offers, there is no way to beat this configuration for the price.

Title: very good pc
Date: May 1, 2008
Prosnote: since this review will only be about the pc i am not rating the poor monitor that came with this 1. fast! Intel Core 2 QUAD (when i bought it that is what the pc came with! 2. cheap worth every penny 3. quiet even while gaming (this is very important on my previous pc when i played games it was very noicy!) 4. good looking Consonly 1. don't know why but my monitor came with a DVI cable and my computer does not have a DVI port (DOES NOT MATTER!!!)
Additional Thoughtschose the 20 inch NON ultrasharp and non truelife monitor with it or at least make SURE your monitor is not ultrasharp or truelife cause they hurt your eyes do not get 22 inch cause it is same resolution therefore bad text quality FOR MORE INFORMATION CHECK OUT MY REVIEW ON THE very bad 22 inch display with webcam

ProsSize of my old tower. Looks like it was very well made. Performs exelent. 8600GT gpu performs flawlesely. Runs World in Conflict on custom settings with Directx10 no hickups no lag. The detail is amazing. The dual core processors are blazing fast. My first Dell, but would deffently buy again. Would reccomend to any casual gamer looking for great performance, and graphics. ConsAll those that complain abaout Vista OS. I am a previous XP user. I had no problems whatsoever installing utility software for my printers. Learned the OS in about 10 minutes. Also for having to close the CD tray manualy. Almost all new computers are like that. Just do not go crazy, and you will not break it.
Additional ThoughtsDo your research before you buy I found a $200 coupon. Your best bet is try, and find coupons before you buy. Also just buy what you need in a computer. No point in buying a system just because someone else says his system rocks.

ProsLove the speed of this computer. Like the built in card readers in the front. Much easier then hooking up my card reader and faster too. Runs quiet. Love the flat screen monitor. Love that I was able to get Windows XP. Easy to hook up and was running within 2 hours of delivery. ConsHad trouble at first getting the BSOD. Went through Dell support and they figured it was my virus software. They uninstalled it, then reinstalled it. Has not happened since. (has been approx. 6 days). I was getting the BSOD every day at random times. Other then that this computer has been great!

Title: Great Deal Great Computer
Date: April 19, 2008
ProsWorks great as a gaming computer. I installed a 8500GT GeForce video card (low loise, no fan video card) to add gaming video quality capability. The computer is quite and it rocks. The quad core allows me to run anything I want without slowing down the computer. Anti-virus scan, spyware scan, defrag all running and I can still use the computer without any real noticable slowness. Vista works fine, no issues. ConsSystem goes to sleep after a while of not being used. You have to shake the mouse or tap the keyboard to wake it up. I believe this is normal for Vista OS. It has more energy savings enabled than Windows XP. You can probably disable some power savings features via control panel if this bugs you.
