Great printer

PostedJanuary 20, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I have three of these installed in an office environment ofr about a year now. They were very easy to setup and I had no driver issues on Server 2000 or Server 2008R2.
My only complaint is that I seem to go through a lots of imagaing drums at $85 each. I'm not sure if this is neccessary but the printer suddenly says it needs one with no warning and won't print until a new one is installed.

It just works

We have a total of 4 of the Dell 5130cdn printers in an educational setting. They are workhorses and do everything we need them to do. We use them with Windows 7 and run them from a Server 2008 R2 box with no driver or software issues whatsoever. Changing the toner is incredibly easy with almost no chance of getting toner on your clothes. We had a problem with streaking on one unit out of the box and a quick phone call fixed the issue (unit has a self-cleaning feature that worked very well). We use the 12k and 18k toner carts and they definitely get a good amount of pages from each of them. In our heavy photo printing wing (pre-k and kindergarten) we got about 9k color prints on a 12k cart, which is a win for us. Other less photo-centric areas get closer to the toner ratings.
Setup is a cinch. The web management interface is easy to do initial configurations and is easy navigate when needed. I wish the accessories for this printer were less expensive. Then again, all vendors overcharge for paper trays and finishers.
Gotta love Dell's commitment to customer support on their enterprise hardware. Standard 3 years of parts and labor was a big factor in our purchase and for one unit we got 5 years. I'm sure the IT Pro Support option is nice but I have no personal knowledge of how good it is.
Overall we are very pleased with our 5130cdn printers and would not hesitate to add to the flock when the opportunity presents itself.
Pros:photo printing, everyday printing
