Title: astonishing Date: November 30, 2008
ProsColors are very very brilliant with little tone details never seen before even on old CRT Viewsonic. Mine unit was accurate right out of the box. I am not proffy photographer but able to distinguish between good and garbage
Excellent blacks, no hue or tint on grays.
Games looks more realistic. I didn't play long time but turn on couple of favorites and found picture very pleasant in all modes
Decent professional monitor, look good in home office
Height adjustment plus rotation
ConsWas hesitating to order because no close Dell retail store, but discount deal and EPP (employee discount program) help me get rid off hesitation.
During Windows start up monitor few times going ON and OFF. No or little delay before going to power saving mode likely.
No software for controls as alternative for buttons
Can't go back to cheapo made LG, Samsung and Acers anymore.
Not available in Bestbuy and Futureshop

Review:Just weeks before found this deal had Samsung T260 and Acer P243Wib. T260 biggest disappointment ever and Acer a bit fail to impress plus one button fail. After I tested this monitor I recommend same model to work and our IT and CAD people will get those next week. I hope I will get one 2408 on mine desk at work as well.

Title: Beautiful 24" Monitor Date: November 28, 2008
ProsGreat monitor for a great price. I had done extensive research before purchasing this monitor which was rated the best on cnet, and top rated at many other websites. Comes with a S-PVA panel which is better than the TN panels. Easily adjusts to height and easily rotates. Buttons on the front of the panel are easy to use. Also, for a 24" monitor it takes up much less space than other 24" monitors that have the extra wide black panel around the screen which in my opinion is a waste of space. Beautiful looking monitor!!!
ConsIt is not compatible with nvidia graphics card 128 mb ddr GE Force 5200 video card

ProsDont be put off by some of the reviews. Out of the box is expected to be bit off, but it only makes sende to adjust brightness, contrast, and color level. You can also make adjustments it the display level of your graphics card. When you do that, this makes a beautiful quality picture...I am running off DVI at full HD resolution. It is sharp, clear, beautiful.
The Monitor looks very well made with lots of I/O options and SD card reader (via USB).
ConsIf you expect any, you will have to search hard to find one.

Title: Better Than I thought it would be Date: October 27, 2008
ProsThis Monitor is gorgeous. I have had it for a couple of months now, and am extremely pleased. I upgraded from a 20" Dell 2001fp. I was very concerned about the input lag issues, and going from an excellent S-IPS monitor to a S-PVA. I found that the lag is almost non-existent if I use the HDMI port with a HDMI-DVI cable. The lag was a little too much with just the DVI input. I also have the A01 version, which I suspect all shipping models are at least that version or later. This screen is much brighter than my previous monitor. The colors were very good right out of the box. I was very skeptical and critical when I first got this monitor, but now I really love it. The 1:1 pixel mapping is great. Blue ray movies look absolutely stunning. I am running this from my own build computer.
ConsDVI input shows noticeable lag. It's not horrible for desktop work, but for gaming it is simply too much. If you game at all on this monitor, use the HDMI input with some type of adapter, either HDMI-DVI cable or a DVI-HDMI adapter, or if your vcard has HDMI output.

Review:Have not had a chance to test the lag on display port. I understand that the specs are very similar if not identical to HDMI just royalty free.

Title: Not that good Date: October 26, 2008
ProsMemory card reader, and it's 24"
ConsThere are a lot of cons. First, the colors are far too saturate, and there is no real way to change that. Reds and greens seem almost neon in appearance. While you can hardware calibrate the colors to a given white level nearly perfectly those reds and greens are still bothersome. There is also a slight green ting/tint/hue to everything. This causes greens to look just a bit TOO green and reds to look dirty. An average person may not notice this, but those with a trained eye will.
The monitors stand, while being nice looking, lacks adequate height adjustment. This is not just a personal distaste, but a design flaw, as the lack of adjustment requires you to actually tilt the monitor back in order to rotate it to portrait view without hitting the desk.
The overall quality of the monitor is in question as well as in the week I've had the thing the print on the monitor buttons has begun to come off just from me changing the settings.
Additionally I had an issue with the OSD. I would set it to "Video" mode (which gives you access to a hue and saturation option) and configure the monitor that way. I would turn the monitor off after use, but when I turned it back on it would be reset back to "Graphics" mode. The monitor at no point lost electrical contact, it was simply turned off using the monitors power switch. Apparently this is enough to reset the monitors color settings mode.
There is also a great deal of input lag with this monitor. Though it is improved in revision A01, it is still noticeable (and may cause a lot of grief to users used to less lag).

Review:Honestly I am very disappointed with this monitor. I read the reviews and made my purchase based on a lot of positive feedback I had seen. Unfortunately it seems most of that feedback was either lying or based on ignorance.
Most users simply do not know what proper color is, do not know how to properly configure a monitor, or do not demand as much from one.
I regret getting this monitor and wish now wish I had spent the extra money to get an NEC or Eizo and has the piece of mind that I was getting a competent display.

On the off chance there is something wrong with my particular unit I have gone ahead and done an exchange. I am HOPING the new one will preform better, but having talked about these issues with other people at great length I am left with the conclusion that it is simply a flawed product.

Title: Worth the $$$ Date: October 24, 2008
ProsExcellent clarity - bumping up from a Viewsonic 19", very convincing blacks for an LCD, zero heat emission, great viewing angles over your average TFT (obviously). Audio pass through on HDMI for high-end gaming systems. Also, ghosting is unnoticable during COD4, Crysis, and Warhammer Online (running an ATI Radeon HD 4870 w/ 1 GB DDR5). Recommend high-end vidcard with 512MB+ memory to support 1920x1200. Additive USB is nice so as not to reach to your case to plug in a thumbdrive. Image clarity unsurpassed on HD backgrounds, but I'm no photo-guru.
No text problems after installing correct monitor profile and making simple adjustments...
Great worksmanship, sturdy base, shipped early and got on sale, not a broken pixel on the panel.
Oh yeah, ADOBE RGB!!
ConsBRIGHT out of box, so much that I had to zero mine out. A pain to look at in a dark room but that's no fault, my eyes will adjust.
HDMI sound output isn't surround sound, better off splitting to optical and inputting to a soundcard if using computer for A/V.
No TV Tuner for price. Auto adjustment could be better.
Came very smudgy out of box, easily remedied w/ Monster screen cleaner.
One other minor thing, I didn't get a quick-service tag on the back of mine for some reason... makes it very hard to get ahold of Dell quickly...

Review:Overall, very happy with this purchase, would surely buy another if not at $600 price point. Easily beats out Samsung HD 26" monitor w/ tuner for $100 less. Great gaming monitor unless you're an FPS player who rates response time far over picture quality, might be better off with a Hanns G then. Maybe I just don't detect ghosting. Excellent crown to any custom rig, impresses friends, even girls?

ProsBig, bright, crystal clear.
ConsBecause most of what I do (writer) involves text I did find that downloading and setting up MS Clear Type added a dimension of clarity to text that seemed to be lacking. But maybe it's because I am in front of words all day.

Review:This is an exceptional product. Unlike the comparable HP 24" which is very glossy and reflective, this monitor is crystal clear and very bright and required absolutely no additional setup out of the box other than plugging it in and turning it on.

Title: A Monitor with Cables! Date: October 19, 2008
Pros- 1920x1200 resolution
- 90 deg rotation of screen and turning without moving the base
- easy 1-button access to choose input source
- Excellent for movies and games
- Included cables for DVI-D (male2male), HDMI, and VGA 15pin (male2male), oh and a USB cable too
- Card reader slots on the side
Cons- USB ports are inconveniently located on the back bottom (with all the other cable connections). I would have preferred them on the side with the card reader slots.

Review:Absolutely no regrets! This is the best monitor I've ever owned.

Pros* Good color.
* Easy phyisical setup.
* Pivots nicely.
* iMac 24" drives it easily through DVI.
* iMac 24" OS 10.4.11 controls the display pivot orientation.
* Easily adjust up-down and in pivoting orientation.
Cons* Does _NOT_ work with iMac's mini-DVI-to-VGA converter. There was no way to sync the resolution properly. However, it DOES work with the iMac's mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter.
* The sliding up-down height adjustment does not "click" in the top position.

Review:* Be careful when rotating the screen. If it is in the lower position, the screen's edge will hit the desk.

Title: Optimum Choice Date: October 8, 2008
ProsMaximum resolution (1920 x 1200) that my laptop supports, larger pixels than Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP (1600 x 1200), usual outstanding Dell Ultrasharp quality and features for price.
ConsLast 20% of width comes at a premium price.

Review:I've bought five Dell Ultrasharp monitors over the years for several locations: A pair of 190xFP's, a pair of 200xFP's, and this 2408WFP. For the 20" round, I blinked, and did not pay the premium for the last 20% of width this 2408WFP offers. It also offers larger pixels; at 53, this means I can put off glasses a few more years, big win.

My work is much less crowded with the extra width. It is a mistake not to maximize one's screen real estate, whatever the cost.

At my office where I have two displays, nothing beats the 2007FP in vertical mode, displaying full pages in glorious resolution as a second monitor, for authoring and reading PDF documents. The extra width of this 2408WFP is actively unwanted in that configuration.

Title: Bright Colors Date: September 29, 2008
ProsI have the new revision
This thing is fast for gamers
The colors are very rich
I can plug in multiple sources
When calibrated it is breath taking
ConsOut of the box you will be disappointed.
It is horribly bright out of the box
The colors are oversaturated and look fake on the default
You stuggle to with deciding if it is too green or too blue.
You have to meticulously calibrate it to get it to perform as expected for the price
It does not come with any calibration software, or ability to make custom presets
It seems to take a week for it to even out
The first week it took about 10 minutes to warm all the colors to the same level.

Review:Dell makes wonderful Monitors. They should go the next step and enhance them with color conformance software.
I ended up using the Windows Media Center Screen calibration wizard, and it transformed my opinion of this monitor
I had the 2407 WFP to compare to, and now do not miss.

Title: Good Pro Monitor Date: September 26, 2008
Pros- great colour when calibrated
- every feature you could ask for
- every connection type you could currently ask for
- excellent design
- great base
Cons- a sRGB/adobeRGB dedicated button is sorely needed. having to access the menu to keep switching between the two is annoying
- you need colour calibration hardware for this thing

Review:If you are thinking of this monitor, please keep in mind it's for people who NEED adobeRGB. The computer world, especially Windows and the Internet expect sRGB. Viewing sRGB in the adobeRGB space looks garish and far too bright. Luckily this monitor has an sRGB preset, where it lowers all it's colour levels to aprox. match sRGB.

If on the otherhand you do Photography or Design work (not web) than this is the monitor to have. It's connection options and features are excellent for this price point.
