Review:Disappointed in the purchase as the monitor's DVI ports worked for about 30 seconds (albeit messed up graphics), then poof nothing but black screen and sleep mode. Only worked on VGA from then on. Not much use since I have a DVI video card and want the performance of digital. Support was useless also since they argued it was my computer. Ended up sending it back for a reefund and purchased a different brand monitor.

Title: Was Concerned... Date: August 11, 2009
Review:I recently received my 2408 monitor and I must say it's the best monitor out there for the money!

I was quite hesitant reading some of the negative reviews, however, I went ahead and ordered this monitor. I have no regrets.

I'm incredibly demanding and picky when it comes to a clear, crisp monitor with good viewing angles (don't even bother with the cheap 160 degree screens) and vibrant color. Previously, I had picked up a 24 inch Samsung and between the constant buzz (with brightness below 96 - a known Samsung issue) and poor viewing angles, I quickly returned it. The saying it true, you get what you pay for.

I suspect some of the issues are with the Windows operating system. I use a MacPro 8 core with a nVidia 8800 GT graphics card. From what I've noticed over the years, a display has always looked better on a Mac vs. PC (not sure why that's the case).

If you search the net, you can find some "fixes" for some of the issues listed in past reviews. If I remember correctly, the fix for the red text issue is resetting the display to the factory settings. For blurry text, enable/adjust ClearType/font smoothing setting in Windows.

To the past negative reviewers who are professional graphic artists expecting this monitor to be on par with one costing 3 times as much, I ask, what were you thinking? You don't buy a Honda then complain it's not a Lexus.

For the hesitant person out there questioning the build quality of this monitor, I say this, BUY IT!. It's a great monitor with no dead pixels, great viewing angles, crisp text, even backlighting and no perceivable lag (I think the hardcore gamers use that as an excuse when they lose. Anyone who thinks they would be adversely affected by 30 milliseconds is on something). If you want to know all about lag, just play World of Warcraft ;-)

Review:I find that most of the negative comments regarding this monitor are true. fading on the right side of the panel. The display of text in normal browser and or text editing programs is pretty poor. quite often you see a red twinge around the text.
I am not to satisfied, just can't decide if I want to go to the trouble of returning it.

pros: great looking color. nice price

Title: Excellent picture quality very poor navigation Date: August 9, 2009
Review:The panel has outstanding picture quality, is very solidly built and has extreme amount of ports - very convinient. The only fact that bugs me quite is the menu and navigation. The buttons are purely made - they most of the time "click-twice" instead of once. The usability and navigation in the menu is hard even for basic settings like brightness and cotrast. The paint from the buttons starts to disappear - shame.
I wish Dell made a software that users can use to control all monitor functions conviniently from the desktop...

Review:Received my Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP last Wednesday July 29th, 2009 in very good condition as delivered by Federal Express, with no visible damage to outer packaging.

Upon opening the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP package, I was very surprised with the weight and heft in general, especially the base (stand) that seemed exceptionally solid and well suited to supporting the display (monitor) panel. The full and complete adjustability of the base (stand) was another surprise, some other “big brands” offer similar functionality but their movement range is much more limited.

Connectivity options is what really drove me to purchasing the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP, as there are few other displays that offer similar complete connectivity.

The Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP replaced my five-year-old Samsung SyncMaster 910T, that was an outstanding display (monitor) for its time; this display (monitor) has a Samsung PVA type display panel that was extremely good for text and general office usage, and the new Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP uses an updated Samsung S-PVA display panel that only improves on the original PVA display panel.

Overall I am very happy, but wished that Dell had included an audio extension cable, as well as a HDMI cable, all other cables were already in the box!

Review:This monitor is great. My sole purpose is for HD editing but I have also found myself playing xbox here and there. I have yet to use the monitor vertically, I do like having the option though. I watched Dell's pricing for a bit on it, and it came down significantly enough for me (fresh from college). So far, no regrets in this purchase.

Review:I now own 2 of these and use them for video editing as well as monitors for multiple pc's. I would like a 30 inch too, but at 3 times the price I will deal with the 24. Nice to have all the inputs and the picture is great right out of the box. Plenty of adjustments can be made. The only improvement I would add is a remote to change input source instead of having to use the buttons each time you switch.

I won't talk about the horrible Fedex delivery issues as that is a whole other problem and would bring the score down

Review:Hey folks,

I've calibrated the monitor and the colours are great and most importantly accurate. 1 problem though "Auto Adjustment"! After a reboot the auto adjustment kicks in and the colours get all rosy and pink. I tried reading up on solutions but to no avail. Anybody experience this problem? I can't be re-calibrating after each restart that is just ridiculous.

Help pls??

Ps: if their is a solution then it is a great all around monitor, if not, then I'm returning it..

Review:I've had this monitor for some time now but after about 6-months I noticed a "bleeding" shadow on the screen. It won't go away either. I also noticed if I have a high contrasting image on the screen, it will "burn" the dark areas of the image into the screen.

I was expecting a longer life out of this monitor but I'm currently shopping for a new one.

Title: Try it out first Date: July 29, 2009
Review:I ordered two of these with high hopes having used a 2407WFP previously at work. They've since gone back and I'll be very cautious about buying displays again from any company without first seeing them in person.

The problem with these displays is that the matte anti-glare finish is quite rough, leading to a sparkling and blurring effect that's very evident on white backgrounds and text. All matte monitors have this effect to some degree, but this Dell coating was _very_ pronounced. It was so excessive that, in using these monitors, I felt like I was wearing improper prescription glasses - text just seemed slightly out of focus and always a bit unclear, leading to significant eye strain after a while. No matter how hard I tried, I could not calibrate it or find a sufficiently good settings to make the text as clear as it really should have been.

That said, images looked great and both monitors had zero dead or stuck pixels. If the text had been better, I would have given these 4 or 5 stars easily, but unfortunately, I work with text all of the time and its readability is paramount. No one display is best for all people, so I would recommend seeing this (or any other) monitor in person first to be sure it will suit your needs.

Thankfully, Dell took both monitors back without any fuss. I was quite pleased by the customer service, though I've heard that others with similar complaints were charged a restocking fee. Dell: please fix the anti-glare coating, as I would be happy to give you business in the future if your text reads well.

Title: Dell 2408WFP Date: July 29, 2009
Product Uses: internet, email

Review:I received the 2408WFP (rev A02) on 7/27/09 and brought it to UPS on 7/28/09 to send back for a refund.

Pros: Zero dead pixels, sharp, very bright (had to turn brightness down to 10) display. Easy to assemble out of the box, loads of inputs, even comes with an HDMI cable as well as USB, DVI-D, and VGA. No back light leakage around edges. Very stable and easily adjustable desk-top mount.

Excellent up/down and left/right viewing angles compared to other LCD displays. Display showed good gradients between 0-100% contrast patterns and decent color, but:

Cons: As reported previously by others the brightness gradient decreases from from left to right. This is noticeable both by eye and using test pattern software such as the one from FLATPANELSDK or Nokia.

Greens were over saturated and could not easily be reduced. Some text that have a slight red "shadow" on another LCD panel had green shadows on the 2408.

The on-screen controls provide minimal adjustments for trying to correct the green color saturation.

Overall the 2408 is a good monitor but is flawed by the side-to-side brightness gradient and green saturation.

Title: Performs well for general use to gaming Date: July 22, 2009
Product Uses: Gaming, office, everyday functions

Review:In short, I've no particular issues with the 2408WFP (A2 revision). It performs exactly as I expect as the primary display in a dual 24" setup (with the 2407WFP as the secondary). I use it for everyday tasks, office, and gaming and it's good at each. I expect that the average user would have no complaints about it.

All round, it's a solid display...which is all I need.

Title: The UltraSharp 2408WFP Date: July 15, 2009
Review:Although I have read many reviews regarding this monitor, I took a chance - not my best decision.

This monitor looks good, and is solid in regards to it's base. Many features reside on this monitor that in my opinion, is priced to low.

After recieving my first monitor, I found that the only issue it had was that the left side of the screen was noticably much lighter then the middle or right side of the screen - meaning the backlighting was nowhere near uniform.

I tried many adjustments, but with no real positive results. I soon recieved a second (replacement), only to find out that my initially first thought was correct - the same problem.

I sent both back and asked for a refund. I would not recommend this (A02 version) monitor, as this issue seems to plague this particular monitor.

Review:Dell is sending me the 5th monitor as the others have not worked. Turn on and they immediately go into save mode then it turns off and that's all folks. They are guaranteeing my $$ back if the next one doesn't work. Any bets on the performance of this final one? Third time wasn't a charm, maybe 5th. They also twice sent refurbished without permission to do so.
I think it looks like a great monitor and would be a real asset to my sewing business-just can't wait forever.

Review:I will keep this short. This monitor is awesome. I already own a 2407 ,(the previous model) which is pretty much the same minus the HDMI input. My wife's job started letting her work from home, but she had to have dual monitors. So now I have 48 inches of dual awesomeness! I have had my 2407 for several years without any problems. I am running both on a Nvidia 8600GTS with DVI connections, which seems to be handling it. My only problem was getting both monitor displays to look the same. I had to turn off the dynamic contrast on the 2408 since the 2407 doesn't have this setting. Get this monitor, YOU NEED IT!

Title: Excellent Monitor Date: July 7, 2009
Product Uses: Connecting with Friends, gaming: fallout 3 / enemy territory / etc., my computer is my main source of everything.

Review:I have been watching this monitor for almost a year now, the price jumped from $699 +tax/shipping all the way down to $395, free shipping + tax. I've read reviews by 3dGameMan, Anandtech, Behardware, Xbitlabs, etc., and I have to say, the problem with finding information about this monitor is that the reviews are often old or of older revisions. I received my monitor revision A02 in the mail today, and have been testing it all day. It worked great, right out of the box with factory settings. I'm using it via the 1st DVI port with a Monster DVI 400 cable (not that I think the cable would really make a difference). I run Windows XP Professional (32-bit) SP3, on an eVGA Superclocked nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS (G90) 640MB PCI-express 16x video card. Lots of things reviewers have said I simply do not notice: color and contrast uniformity is fine, no weird pink or blue tints. The monitor is not too bright, but if it's too bright for you, then turn down the brightness. Testing the input lag with a millisecond stop watch program, I saw no significant input delay compared to my ViewSonic E90f+SB, flatscreen CRT. Highly recommended if you have high hopes for a monitor that needs to have great viewing angles and a 1920 x 1200 resolution. The only *very* minor gripe I have, is that Dell should not be shipping these monitors with the VGA (D-sub) cable already attached. Any client out there, shopping for this monitor, should NOT be using VGA as their cable of choice. They will 9 times out of 10 be using DVI, and *maybe* they'll be using HDMI, perhaps soon DisplayPort.
