Review:This is a fine monitor, except some features are not properly configured. I have two input sources for it now, a laptop and a cable box, and I often use PIP or PBP to view TV while doing things on the PC. But I have to select Component from the PIP input menu every time I turn it on, because it defaults to S-Video! And if I swap them, the other group of sources for PIP defaults to VGA, while I am using a DVI-I connector! Why couldn't they have the monitor remember the last setting???

Review:I got this amazing monitor for photo editing and I need something that is not only large enough, but also displaya correct colors, etc.
When doing research for this monitor, I read you need to definitely get a color calibration kit to achieve proper colors. I was going to get the Spyder 3 and (after I read many reviews) I read that you need to get get an "X-Rite eye-one display 2" calibration kit. The reason is, this calibrator can also adjust lumination which is very important, especially with this monitor. Apparently the Spyder 3 doesn't control lumination.
After buying the X-Rite eye-one display 2, I was clueless on how to use it. There is NO direction on how to use it, just video tutorials. I had to call customer support to begin learning each step so I can calibrate. Along the way, I had many problems with getting my basic monitor settings where I want it to be. I was becoming very frustrated. I had to disconnect my DVI connection and use a VGA connection to get my monitor where it needs to be.
Once you have the default/factory settings on, you will need to make appropriate changes to prepare your monitor for yout calibration test.
Brightness: 20 Contrast: 100
Red, Green, Blue 70
I did the Advanced Settings on the software (that came with the eye-one display 2) and I set it to this: White Point: 6500 Gamma 2.2 Luminance 120
After making all these changes and running its course, I was able to get beautiful, accurate colors and luminance. I am sure if you get the same calibration kit as what I listed, and you have this Dell monitor, you should have NO problems.
I do have a question for anyone out there... When you use the monitor at a vertical position, how can you use your mouse? The mouse is designed for horizontel position and when you have the monitor in an up-right position, the mouse is very difficult to use. Please reply if anyone knows.

Review:Regarding Delivery: It arrived quickly as most Dell products I've order do.
Regarding Quality: It is a very nice monitor with great color reproduction, brightness, etc. It makes my 1 year old 22" Dell monitor look like it needs to be replaced - the image is that good. I wish that I had spent the money to get 2 of these instead.
Regarding Ease of Use: I make my living as a usability professional, so usability is important for me. The pictures on the setup poster were a bit small, but I didn't really need it because it was very easy to see how the stand just slid onto the monitor. Detaching my bar speaker from the old monitor and putting it on this new monitor was also very easy. I also really enjoy the tilt, swivel and up and down adjustments - very smooth.

Review:I bought this monitor for photography purposes. I should have known there was a reason it was $700 cheaper than other 24 inch wide screen monitors recommended for such purposes. The main issue is the panel type. It causes shadow areas of images to look too dark when viewed from straight on 90 degrees. The monitor also suffers from viewing angle problems although not as bad as cheap TN type panels. No amount of hardware/software color calibration would fix these issues. I had to abandon using it and eventually bought a much more expensive proessional level monitor. This monitor is great for general pc usage but not for photography!!!

Review:monitor quality is excellent, top notch - the switch on the bottom right is poor design. Dell has replaced my monitor 3 times since 2006.Twice, the monitor switch would not turn on, once, the switch was in the "ON" position. Dell service can't be improved upon, however, the designer of the switch needs to rethink the mechanics of his design. I am very very careful how I press this switch, knowing it's going to get stuck sooner or later, btw.

Review:I purchased this monitor as I was panicing with a 44-page publication I had to design with a deadline looming. I had another monitor that was only 14 months old (different manufacturer), and it suddenly began flickering during my design process. I had a 3-year warranty, so I thought I would be saved, but the manufacturer said I could only send it back for repair and that I would be without a monitor for 7-14 days! They would not send me a replacement until they attempted to repair the first one. Therefore, since I couldn't be without a monitor, I went straight to Dell and they sent out the 24-inch ultra-sharp. The clarity and color is fantastic, and the biggest plus was the availability of a 5-year extended warranty with a "1-day replacement" policy. Professionals, such as myself, can't afford to be without their computers for any length of time, so for all of you who purchase computer equipment, read the fine print of your warranties and make sure you are getting a "replacement" policy instead of one that only provides "repair." Thank you Dell. I can now rest easy even if the monitor does have issues later.

Title: Uneven illumination for 2408WFP

Review:Both the left 1/5 and the right 1/5 of the screen are more brightly illuminated than the center portion. The left side of the screen is worse than the left in this respect.
My computer and all peripheral equipment are on a power strip that I turned off after shutting down the computer. The 2408WFP goes into "power saving mode", then I turn off the power strip. When I turn on the power strip, I have the computer BIOS set to boot up. Sometimes the 2408WFP will go back into "power saving mode" after I boot up and log on to Windows, which means I need to turn the monitor off and back on again with it's own power switch. This seems like a firmware problem.
The monitor is useable, but I have come very close to returning it for a refund, but didn't. I would not recommend this and will not get another when the time comes to replace by other LCD monitor.

Review:Pros: Decent price, high resolution, lots of inputs.
Cons: Does not display colors properly. When watching movies that are dark, the blacks on the screen are grayish.
I bought 2 of these monitors to use side by side and was amazed at how inconsistent the display output were on the monitors. I adjusted the color and temperature on both the monitors to match each other and no matter what I did I could not get my movies or games to look the same on both monitors.
The first video card I used is the ATI Radeon 4850 HD using the DVI connectors after being frustrated with the bad image quality and colors I removed the ATI video card and installed my nVidia GeForce 9800GTX and to my disspointment the image quality and colors were not any better.
I used these monitors for 3 weeks and at the end I returned them and ordered the 30" 3008WFP
In the meantime I'm using my old Dell 2405FPW which can produce the proper colors.

Title: Constantly Goes to Power Save Mode On Its Own

Review:I usually don't write reviews, but my problem is so annoying I felt compelled. This monitor constantly goes to power save mode on its own, and then comes back (sort of like flickering) - very inconvenient right in the middle of use. When I boot up, it sometimes stays in power save mode when Ubuntu reaches the login screen (causing me to power-off the box hard and try again). Initially I thought it was the unit I had, so I exchanged for another one, and the problem STILL occurs. Both were Rev A01. Yes, the picture is nice and the colors vibrant, but what's the use if it can't stay on?

Review:My Samsung 206BW was starting to fail and I needed a monitor right away before it went out completely. I read most of the reviews before ordering so I pretty much knew what to expect, such as with a white background, the right side edge is not as evenly lit as the rest of the screen, but the Samsung had a similar uneven lighting problem that I've lived with for it's 2 year life span.
Overall I'm pleased with the picture quality right out of the box. Made only a few adjustments here and there. Love the swivel and up/down positions, along with the built-in card reader on the side.
Really, about the only downside is that this was obviously a repackaged returned item, which I hate getting but usually happens when you buy an item that is put on sale. You can easily tell from the packaging that it was not straight from the factory. I've bought enough items over the years to be able to tell the difference. I'm not saying it's reconditioned, but most places will state something like 'open box' item, meaning someone returned it, probably one of the reviewers here, lol.

Review:I have two of these monitors running side-by-side and could not ask for more. Using the suggested setting posted further back in these reviews, I found a perfect calibration match to set both monitors up so they match. It took no additional effort!
If you are a Photoshop user, you can't do better than this monitor. You will have to look back several pages in this review section for the settings suggested, but once you use these settings, you are right on, rock solid for a great match of alike monitors, and for a basis for your photo printing locally or for outside labs. We all know what a pain this can be. With about 20 minutes of setup time, I was done and things have worked flawlessly since!
Dell does a great job on shipping these things. I ordered mine on Monday and it was delivered on Wednesday. They supply the tracking info, when shipped, but in my case, the monitor arrived on the same day as the info.
The monitor has plenty of ports if you have other uses planned. This is a big monitor and it does get warm while on, but this has not been a problem for me while using two at the same time, side by side.
This is an excellent product. I'll probably buy a third in time if they continue to offer the monitor at a discount.

Title: On/off button no longer works

Review:I bought this monitor in August 2007, and it worked very well. Now the On/Off button is depressed and it is impossible to turn the monitor on or off. By trying to pry out the button it suddenly went on. Now I plug it in to turn it on and unplug it to turn it off, not very convenient. I guess I will have to buy a separate power cable for it with a switch. For the price, I sure hoped it would last longer than 2 years.
