ReviewAfter procrastinating for months over purchasing a 24" monitor I finally got the 2408WFP (A03) and have not experienced any of the problems I had read of others having with it. The wide color gamut produces IMO vivant colors, not a single dead or stuck pixel and sharp text. Although I can't measure input lag objectively it has not been a problem for me in COD4 or Warhead.

Title: Excellent monitor for the price
Date: July 3, 2009
Pros: programming, maintaining websites, web-based research, Finances, email etc.
ReviewI am very pleased with the 2408WFP. I use it along with my 2405FPW to get extended desktop area.
The quality of the monitor and stand is excellent for the money. The connectivity (especially 2 DVI ports) is also excellent.
The 2408WFP exceeds my expectations and fully meets my needs.

Title: Calibrate Your 2408WFP for Photo Printing
Date: July 2, 2009
Pros: photo processing
ReviewThis is an excellent monitor that I have been using for 6 months now. With the ability to display Adobe RGB rather than just SRGB (70% of the color gamut of ARGB) this monitor gives one the ability to properly calibrate it to allow for a fully color managed workflow with todays modern photo printers.
A recent review, however, on how to calibrate using SRGB is not appropriate for a color managed printer workflow using Photoshop and/or Lightroom. By all means calibrate with sRGB if you never intend to print but if you want to produce accurate prints that look like what one sees on the screen with Photoshp you must use Adobe RGB when using the Spyder.
This will result in a monitor that looks saturated and bright when not in color managed applications but that is an issue of the applications like windows and the web applications, not with the 2408wfp.
My results this monitor using ARGB have been specatacular! If accurate photo printing is not your thing, I would suggest using one of the cheaper options out there for a monitor.
Good luck!

Using Nikon Capture NX2
Pros: photo editing
ReviewI'm a 'serious' amateur photographer, and need to have my monitor calibrated. I've been using a ColorVision Spyder2 for several years and getting good results with two previous monitors. I just bought this great 24" Dell, but had to scratch my head a bit to get it calibrated. My Sypder2 instructions recommends keeping default settings for LCD monitor brightness/contrast, but this monitor is really bright, so before starting the calibration process I turned down the brightness setting to 20 from the default value of 50 - I figured that would be a good starting point. Then I set my preset mode to sRGB (a lot of the other default modes are way too vivid; you'll never get a good calibration), and started up the calibration process. The Brightness, Contrast, and Backlight default calibration results all looked fine with that lowered brightness setting, so I proceeded on to set the RGB levels .. this was easy (just a few tweeks) before I obtained equivalent values. A note here - my first attempt at calibration started with the preset "Desktop" mode, and it was just about impossible to obtain acceptable RGB calibration results .. as noted earlier, use sRGB. Hoping this helps other users calibrate this great monitor ..

Title: Not for the Pro-sumer looking to save
Date: June 23, 2009
Pros: Connecting with Friends, Video Editing, Presentation, graphic design
ReviewI shopped around for weeks comparing monitors so I could get a decent amount of work space and quality images for my graphic design business before going for this beauty. I though I would save half the price of a LaCie, Hp or Apple monitor and get comparable quality. Hefty price tags and specs convinced me but after using this mamoth for 6 months now I most say its got little going for it. Brightness levels are off the charts and can't be ajusted below "painfully bright", colors are way off and un even over the whole viewing surface , and it can't display levels of grey below the 20% range, so some things actaully don't display on this monitor. Your left paying for size and colour qality and getting only size. The ajustment software shipped with it is useless as it is only for windows...so now I'm stuck with a monitor no designer would want that is to expensive for the reglar joes. To bad beacause the connectivity and tilt features are great but not worth this price. If I could get my monney back and buy a smaller but high quality display I would.

Title: Unbeatable at this price...

ReviewI think for this price this monitor is outstanding, the sharpness and clarity of this monitor is unbeatable a this price.
I bought and returned 2 other 24 inch monitors before buying this one (one Samsung and one Viewsonic), the quality of the picture on this monitor is so superior that there is no comparison, the other 2 were unacceptable (font fuziness, off colors...)for somebody like me who spends hours everyday in front of the monitor and value his eyes.
It doesn't look cheap at all to me and actually looks great on my desk next to my other Dell monitor. It might not be suitable for professional graphic/photo use, as some people complain, but I guess if you want a monitor for professional use maybe you spend more than $500, what do you expect when most professional monitor sell for $1500+...
All in all I think this monitor is outstanding for everyday office or home use, definitely my best tech purchase of the year.

Title: Dell all the way, where for work or home...

Quad Monitors - All Dells
Pros: Video Editing, Finances, software development, photo editing
ReviewI'm a professional software developer and at work (and at home) I've been using dual monitors for years. About a year ago, my work tried to save some money by buying me two 20" Samsung flat panel monitors, however, the color would shift as I moved my head up/down or left/right which makes it very tough when most of my work I do is creating User Interfaces for enterprise applications. Therefore, after 6 months of use they were replaced with two 2207WPF - which work perfectly.
Years ago I replaced my dual monitor system (a 17" and a 21" ViewSonic CRTs) with two Dell flat panel monitors (a 17" square and a 20" widescreen.) So when I decided to upgrade my home monitor system recently, I read all the blogs and reviews, asked friends and family etc. Yes other monitors are cheaper but for me I was looking for the best price/quality I could buy and that lead me back to Dell's 2408WPF monitors.
The 2408WPFs are amazing! I now own two 2408WPF (verA02) monitors and I'm looking at buy two more (when budget allows) - so that I can properly fill out my new QUAD monitor system!! (see photo.)
Cons Why a rating of 7? Well, let's just say Dell's customer server isn't what it used to be... otherwise it would be a perfect 10!

Title: The Brighter Side of Light
Date: June 17, 2009
Pros: Connecting with Friends, Video Editing, Gaming, Music & Movies, Presentation, music composition
ReviewI have used it both as a visual unit for my computer and for my Playstation 3. Back in November, I recall pulling the monitor out of its protective layering realizing that I had little to no room on my desk currently for the unit. When they say the screen is 24", they don’t include the 3" combined with the edges. You need space to place a 27" wide monitor....unless you plan on utilizing its unique and quite wonderful portrait function in which case you'll only need about 18" to fit the monitor (since it'll be sideways in a sense).
When I booted the monitor up, it was quite easy to figure out the functions and prompt the correct port to view my desktop. I must admit that I felt I suffered from snow-blindness the first time it started up though. The brightness was set high to 75%, and it could have heated a tuna casserole. I currently have it set around 4-8% and it's plenty bright, even in strong back-light sunlight.
The resolution on the monitor is quite amazing, and its ability to process Standard Definition files and material and show them at the best viewing quality is impressive. Most monitors have a problem with latency and jarring, as the internal processor manipulates the input data and then spits it back out in packages of information. The 2408WFP has a seamless transition and has almost no jarring (1 or 2 instances out of 100 hours of footage or video watching).
Its heat disbursement is minimal and as long as you turn down the brightness, you won't cook your wallpaper or paint. Note to some of you - even with the brightness turned up all the way, you still can't suntan with it - yes, I've gotten questions about it.
A few negative sides of the monitor are elements that can be updated in the next generation, or even through their downstream and upstream USB 2.0 ports in the back and side of the unit. One of these, and quite possibly the most troubling element is the color. While it portrays vivid color on screen, it's because Dell has calibrated it much like Canon does its camera sensors, taking each pixel and augmenting the information to produce a much more "colorful" image. Have you seen the one's they use with the purple flower? The images are truly that vibrant and colorful, but once you output video, it does not hold the same vibrant colors, either on film, video, or in printed photos. You must calibrate the hue, saturation, brightness, and tone functions on the unit itself so that when you put out product, it won't look different and you won't (or your clients) be disappointed.
Aside from these points, I truly believe that the monitor itself is leaps and bounds above some of the competition (and you mac users will want to cringe), and better than any apple monitor I've seen out there. If you're looking for a great mid-level display that takes up a good portion of space but will not only wow you, but your friends, clients, and trick the local sun-tanning guy, Dell's 2408WFP monitor is the one you.

Title: bad text display
Date: June 17, 2009
Pros: office
ReviewThis monitor is worse than my earlier ones on display quality. Text has red edge. When working on MS word, all text has red edge. Some other applications have the same problem. Dell replaced the monitor twice. All monitors have the same problem. Guess Dell did a good job on consistency control. However, in general the text is fine in web browser. Color is greenish. It is slightly off. But do make you eyes uncomfortable. I’d rather like the laptop screen and my old dell monitors. Overall, I was disappointed with this ‘high’ end new model.

Title: Beautiful, Slow Display
Date: June 17, 2009
ReviewPROS: Gorgeous picture, great viewing angles, works in portrait mode.
CONS: Input Lag. This monitor runs 2 frames (33ms) behind whatever your computer is sending out. Whether or not this delay is perceptible or bothersome seems to vary from person to person. For me I don't notice anything when I'm using the mouse, but when I'm typing I can feel the delay. It makes my brand new computer feel as slow as the 5 year old machine it replaced.
Overall, if you're not a graphics artist, I'd recommend a faster, cheaper monitor.

Title: Excellent monitor

Pros: software development
ReviewAfter reading many reviews I decided to take the dive and buy this monitor. I am extremely please with it. I believe it excels over any other competitors. Screen resolution at 1900x1200 is awesome.
Amongst all the good features, it has PIP, PBP. I wonder why it is not mentioned in the specs.
The display is a little bit too bright but tuning it down to 10 or less does the trick.

Title: UltraSharp 2408WFP is great.
Date: June 12, 2009
Pros: Music & Movies, Presentation, slingbox
ReviewI have had this Monitor for about a month and I can't say enough about it. Currently running on a Dell 4550 desktop I bought in 2002. The 4550 is a Pentium 4 400 sidebus that I upgraded with a 1GB mem and a diamond stealth AGP 256MB vido card. UltraSharp 2408WFP is connected to PC via a DVI cable and picture and performance is everything I expected and from my current desktop. Can't wait for Windows 7 release in October 09 when I will updgrade to an Intel Core i7 Dell Desktop and take advantage of the full capability of this monitor.

Title: Mega Bright
Date: June 11, 2009
Pros: Music & Movies, development
ReviewIt goes on sale all the time so be patient and save. This monitor is extremely bright. I had to set the brightness down to 5 from the default of 50 and it is still very bright. I don't like the input UI, it allows you to scan the inputs but then when you use the input button it goes through all the inputs versus the ones it found in the scan. All of the industry standard video inputs from the past 50 years - connect anything except CGA or EGA. Mine has a couple of fixed pixels but is considered acceptable according to the Dell pixel policy.

ReviewWhen I went hunting for a new monitor after I sold my comparable 24" Samsung 2493hm monitor to my father, I found this Dell monitor to be the right choice. I sold my Samsung because it became discontinued and I could not buy a second one, I'm glad my father took me up on my offer. This monitor is by far better with colors and the input buttons are much better than my old Samsung with the touch sensitive buttons. I also found that input lag is not that bad and may actually be better than the Samsung for games. Video quality is amazing and my Nikon camera pictures look stunning. I also enjoy having USB ports at the back of the monitor so my printer and camera are now hooked up on my monitor instead of hogging my USB ports on the back on my desktop. Furthermore I like the stand that comes with this display with my old Samsung if you taped it on the corners it would shake and the swivel was terrible with this stand the display is sturdy and the swivel is by far better. If you're in the market to buy an excellent monitor this is the one to get, it has a great warranty and the picture is better than anything else out there. Dell has me impressed I see more products being bought from my experience it may not be a desktop because I build them, but could be a new Adamo or tablet for college.

ReviewOutstanding PVA panel we have here in the 2408. Colour is very detailed and accurate, which is what you would get something like this for. Response times, although not the "greatest" in numbers compared to TN panels, are not noticable. I watch a fair bit of movies and play a fair bit of FPS on this thing, and it doesn't bother me one bit, I don't even notice it. Great panel, but you pay the money for it, - it's gone as low as $430 before... well, you always hear it- you pay for what you get, and the 2408WFP is no exception to that rule. This is a high end monitor with a million connections on the back, including DisplayPort (AND the cable!!!)

Title: Awesome Monitor
Date: June 1, 2009
Pros: Video Editing, Music & Movies, Presentation, photo editing
ReviewThis is indeed an awesome monitor. It is very bright and appears to me to reproduce colors very well. I bought this monitor primarily for photo editing and love the extra screen space. Also love the adjustable height stand. I just picked this up on sale for $479 and wish I had bought it sooner. It is indeed more sharp than my old Viewsonic monitor and displays a beautiful image. I did have one minor problem, that was easy to fix. I use an ATI Radeon 9000 series AGP video card. When my computer went into power save mode, I could not get the monitor to wake up. An update of my video card driver corrected this problem in minutes. This is a must have monitor. Check out the professional reviews if you don't believe me.
