Title: UltraSharp FP1708 Monitor Date: May 12, 2008
ProsGood price. RGB or digital connection. Lots of USB ports. Easy setup (plugs right in). Image quality is exceptionally good. My previous experience with an FP1908 prompted me to replace the monitor on my older PC with the 1708. Good decision.
ConsNone. Great monitor.

Title: Amazing Monitor, simply amazing Date: April 11, 2008
ProsI have to say this is the one I have been looking for. I paid the sale price so I am even happier with that. The device is easy to set up, packaging is very secure and there were no scratches etc in transport. This monitor is big enough for my needs, small footprint and adjustable up or down for each person's tastes. Very good investment. The screen is amazing, simply amazing.
ConsNone

Review:If you are looking for a monitor and don't want a "widescreen", get it now because these units are going fast. Manufacturers are moving towards the widescreen type and after a few more months you won't get this type anymore. Don't wait buy it now.

Title: Dell 1707FP Monitor/Display - Precursor of 1708FP Date: March 28, 2008
ProsGood performance and features
ConsOccasional incompatility (once a month or so) between the built-in USB hub on the display, a just attached USB device and a Dell 521 desktop computer. This is resolved simply by removing and re-connecting the USB device and allowing it to be re-detected and its mini driver to be initialized.

Title: Fantastic Monitor! Date: March 18, 2008
ProsFantastic monitor! - Good looking monitor with a very sharp image. I've been using it for over a year and it's the best monitor I've ever had.

Add the Dell AS500 Sound Bar for very good sound. It attaches to the bottom, and gets power from the monitor. It makes for a very clean looking system, and has two headphone jacks on the side.

I like that I can adjust its height, and that it'll turn 90 degrees for a 'tall' screen.

I also really like the built in USB hub -- it has 2 sockets on the side.
ConsNothing wrong with it.

Review:I'd sure like to run a dual monitor setup with two of these.

Title: Love It Date: February 18, 2008
ProsMy recent Inspiron purchase came with a wide panel 17" monitor which is fine if you don't mind looking through the bottom of a bottle at it. Totally distorted and rediculous as far as I am concerned. It cost me more for this one and should have been included with the package I purchased. Love it and glad Dell did give me credit for the one shipped with the PC.

Title: good choice Date: January 21, 2008
ProsI actually returned the 19" widescreen monitor that I purchased as part of a Dell computer package and exchanged it for this one. It cost me extra, and took a few weeks, but I'm glad I decided to. I'm very happy with it; the graphics are extremely clear. The 17" screen still seems very large to me; guess I'll get used to it.
ConsI don't know why this monitor wasn't offered as one of the standard options as part of the Dell computer package. I'm sure I spent more money on this monitor, by buying it separately, than I would have if I'd been able to order it as part of a package.

Title: Good and Bad Date: October 23, 2007
ProsThe UltraSharp 1708FP 17 in Flat Panel is an excellent monitor when connected to a desktop computer or a notebook computer in a docking station. Good value for the money, but bad when it does not run perfectly.
ConsEncountered problems with 1708FP when it is connected to a Dell notebook computer, specifically the XPS M140. Windows will not start if the notebook is powered on and connected to a powered on 1708FP. Notebook must be powered on first and then the 1708FP must be powered on about 5 seconds later in order for the notebook to boot up, otherwise, the notebook remains on, but with a blank screen and a blinking curser in the upper left corner. The notebook will restart, log off, shut down, etc once started when it is connected to a powered on 1708FP.

Review:Spent 2 1/2 hours with a Dell XPS warranty representative but could not resolve problem. Representative replicated XPS M140 and 1708FP set up in lab, but could not get the notebook operating system to start up if the computer is powered up while connected to a 1708FP that is also powered up. Very frustrating since both systems are manufactured by Dell.

Title: 17 in LCD Monitor Best for value & quality Date: October 15, 2007
ProsThis monitor has one of the best displays for LCD I have ever seen. It has VERY easy/simple controls on front. It also has DVI and VGA inputs for conection to your machine. The USB Ports are a nice feature, although I would recommend you only connect Jump (Flash) Drives and other devices requiring low amperage, and NOT ext. hard drives, printers, or ext. DVD drives.
VERY easy to setup. Has an automatic feature to set your resolution and display size!

Title: Bang for the buck Date: September 24, 2007
ProsThe feature set is as good as one can expect for the price. I've seen many 17" LCD monitors with comparable cost that have few if any of the features of this monitor. If I have to buy another monitor any time soon, I would not hesitate to buy the same monitor. I like particularly like the adjustable stand, and the 4-additional USB ports available. Now I can get rid of the ugly and inconvenient USB hub that always seems to be in the way.

Title: Killer Monitors Date: September 24, 2007
ProsThese monitors have DVI and VGA inputs, as well as a button to switch between the two. I use one here for two different things. The DVI is plugged into my main machine on a second video card to be used as my third monitor. The VGA gets plugged into a second computer, for diagnostics and repair work. The display on these monitors is amazing, games are great on them, they can be turned sideways for doing spreadsheets and other writing. Also, the stands are incredible, as they are what can turn the monitor sideways, full moveability, and a good non slip base. Simply great monitors, for home or office use.
ConsHave found nothing wrong with them. I have run through around 100 of these in the past year, and have only had to RMA two of them. Random problems, one of them glitched out and started flickering uncontrollably, and the other would not turn on anymore. But they were both within their warranty and I was able to have expedited shipping to have them replaced with new ones. Also Dell paid for return shipping which was awesome and allowed me to just setup a DHL return and give it to our warehouse guys.

Review:The only way these could get better would be glossy screens, and higher resolution. but 1280X1024 is still killer res for a 17".

Title: I'm still using it Date: July 3, 2007
ProsThis monitor is built to last. I've been using it for 2 years now and I see no wear and tear. I've moved it to 5 different locations and it's survived the trip each time. Overal image quality and color is good/great.
ConsRunning some image test programs, there is some visible ghosting (with high speed moving objects). But this is as expected from a LCD screen. Only way to fix this is by using a CRT monitor (but who wants to use those large and heat producing behemoths anyways). Overall the image is very crisp otherwise.
