I am very pleased with the U2412m. This monitor looks great and is truly unbeatable at it's price-point. The image/color quality is fantastic, far better than your standard Best Buy display.
PROS:
- Large screen and high resolution give you lots screen space.
- The ease of positioning. This monitor can tilt, twist, and be height adjusted with literally two fingers.
- The portrait orientation. In this orientation I can have a web-browser, MS Word and MS Excel open and usable concurrently. This option gives you a LOT of vertical screen space.
- Preset modes for multimedia, movie, game, text, etc. (very easy to toggle on the monitor itself)
- Overall image quality.
CONS:
- None really, it would be nice if the monitor had a portrait/landscape toggle (currently you must toggle in Control Panel/Display/Screen Resolution)... other than that I have absolutely no complaints. This is a great monitor!
I bought this from the Dell Outlet site. I've been living off on an 19" Ultrasharp my own company gave me and another one I had lying around. I missed having two 23" monitors at my old job but didn't need dual screens for working in the home office (no expansive VMware environments to manage there). I was eyeing this screen for a long time but like with all great screens, they come at a price. When I saw this one for $250 (at $380 new), I jumped at it. Using a displayport for my main tower and DVI for my docking station, this is a beauty and will give you plenty of room for work and play. Very clear and sharp. If you need vertical display functionality, this is a great option.
Great response times when gaming, even in DX11 titles (Deus Ex: HR and Crysis 2). I use this for a range of video editing, gaming and normal work. Looks great on the desk and the port options are good. Can't believe no HDMI though (would have given up the VGA). Options buttons are interesting, as you choose inputs like it is on your TV. Good range of presets but most will leave the standard alone.
They say you get what you pay for, and I picked this up on sale. I made my peace with the dead pixel, but in the month I've had this monitor, a nasty flicker has developed. Trying to get support from Dell is frustrating since this monitor doesn't have a service tag, which seems to be how all support is given.
If the monitor worked, I'd be ultra-happy, but sadly I'm left staring at Hank, the dead pixel, as webpages strobe behind me.

Hello Liso,
I am sorry that your monitor is not exceeding your expectations. In regards to the dead/stuck pixel, I always recommend checking out this post on the Dell Forums Monitor board: http://dell.to/TWMcUj. It covers our warranty for dead/stuck pixels and also has steps that may be able to fix a stuck or bright pixel. IF you want, you can get support for your monitor on the DEll Community Forums as well (http://dell.to/oepQB0 ). The support agents on here may be able to assist with resolving the flickering you are seeing.
Excellent monitor for photo editing. Aspect ratio is great, viewing angle easily adjusted, easy on the eyes over a long period of time. Would have liked HDMI input.
I did not think after using the Dell UltraSharp 1907fp monitor for several years that it could be out done by any other monitor but boy was I wrong about that! I have been using this new Dell UltraSharp U2412M and am very impressed with the overall performance. Letters and number are very crisp and the colors look fantastic! My pictures really look good! I did have to turn down the brightness to 30 because the factory brightness is way to bright. I do like the 16:10 (1920X1200) aspect ratio rather than 16:9 (1080p) for most things on the computer. The taller screen is beneficial for the internet and office applications in my opinion. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase!

Bought for office - beautiful monitor - paired with Dell Optiplex with USB3. This monitor has only USB2 ports, which, while they work, do not pass through the higher speed USB3. Perhaps this is an older model but it needs to be updated asap.
Pros:office applications generally

Hi Barsongs,
Thank you for your reviews with Dell UltraSharp U2412M !
Indeed its is with the USB 2.0 which probably have not tested yet with the USB 3.0 . However, I really appreciate it for the honest feedback .With that we will make sure to work for a better products in the future.
this is my 4th purchase of the 24" wide high res monitor. the previous "builds" of this monitor had a plethora of input connections. this "build" only has vga, dvi, and display port. missing are the video and component video inputs.
my favorite build was the model that had all these inputs, plus two dvi inputs. i use this feature currently, but cannot with this new build of monitor (without adapters). i will especially miss the video and component video inputs as i used these to play cable tv in the PIP. i cannot do this any more.
please, in the next build, reinstate these additional video inputs!!! otherwise, i will be searching for replacement monitors on ebay!
Pros:gis, grpaphic art (illustrator photoshop)

Hey Cumston,
I'm glad to hear that you are loving the Dell UltraSharp U2412M. The UltraSharp line definitely has some impressive monitors, and there are larger sizes available!
We appreciate your feedback, and thank you for choosing Dell!
I bought second one monitor that I put side-by-side for an extra large work space(My first is Dell 2005FPW, after 8 years still working and picture is sharp and bright). - The resolution is fantastic! - The build-in USB hub is very helpful. - Possibility of Dell Soundbar makes this monitor one of the kind. - However, not everything is so bright as I wish. Monitor doesn't have HDMI port (DisplayPort instead). So it can't be used as a second monitor for the laptop without additional adapter. Connecting two monitors to graphic card is also problematic( I have ATI Radeon HD 5670) , additional adapter is needed. Dell suppose include this adapter( $ 18 in Dell store, $8 on-line) for free. Pricing: dell offer this monitor for $360 when on-line price is $263. I listed out the cons such that any potential buyers could think about how to work around the limitation. Don't get me wrong. I like this monitor so much that I even think about buying the second one.
Pros:trading internet browsing

Elmich,
Great to hear that this Dell monitor is working out well for you. For future reference the soundbar you'll want for this system is the AX510. You can check it out using the link below.
I do a lot of different things with it, but mainly: Logic, Ableton Live, Photoshop, iMovie and browsing Internet. I love it for it resolution, the build quality, the usb hub, and the black that is really black!
I recommend it to anyone who is not so willing to go with a LED technology because of the black-grey contrast thing, and to anybody who wants a good monitor period!

Thejammer,
Thanks for the great rating and review. We appreciate it!!
What a great monitor. I was so pleased with it that I bought a second one. Looks nice with two of these 24's sitting side by side. Great color, sharp pictures, everything looks very clean and crisp. I highly recommend the U2412M. I think its one of the best monitors i've seen for the money and I did alot of research before I bought. Plus Dell customer service did a price match from Amazon and handled everything very professionally.
Pros:work, games, play

I love this monitor. I use it for tax accounting and research. It's 1920*1200 aspect ratio lets me have two 8.5*11 documents open right next to each other. Additionally it is capable of displaying massive excel worksheets.
The matte finish and high picture quality reduce glare and eye fatigue.
The stand is very well made and highly adjustable. It's great for those who work long hours and demand an ergonomic workspace.
While this is only an entry level IPS, it should make all but the photo and graphics professionals happy as it is such a large improvement over the cheap TFT monitors. It's a joy to look at pictures of loved ones one this which I use as background wallpaper.
Three year warranty is a plus.
Pricing is great for this quality product. Dell has hit a home run!
Pros:acccounting, legal research

Bunkgoats,
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the Dell U2412M!
A quality product for a fantastic price is exactly what we had in mind when we brought the U2412M to reality! I'm glad you are happy with your purchase.
I bought this monitor for as m primary monitor for Digital Painting. I was looking for a large workspace with excellent color reproduction. No issues here. The 6:10 aspect ratio was a good choice for maximizing the screen space at maximum resolution. Edge to edge the color reproduction is the best I've seen in this price range.
Great Monitor
Pros:digital painting, 3d graphics

Hi James48,
Thank you for writing a review of your UltraSharp U2412M. I am so happy to hear you are pleased with it's sharp, quality screen! Why we ever had anything but widescreen, I cannot remember!
Pros: Display has great colors. Gets very bright. Great price for a "professional" level IPS display. I got it on sale for $285 after shipping. Overnight shipping of the replacement.
Cons: Unacceptable backlight bleed in the top right corner and moderate bleed in the bottom right corner. I have a friend who purchased the same monitor and does not have this issue at all. I called Dell, and the replacement they sent me had backlight bleeding that was even worse than the original!!! Not sure if I received two lemons or if my buddy got lucky and got a good one, but the amount of backlight bleed is completely unacceptable for a monitor like this. Maybe LG (they actually make the panel) had a batch of bad displays etc.
Backlight bleed is not terribly noticeable during productivity type tasks, but manifests during darker scenes in games and movies.
Dell tech support was decent. Very helpful in getting me the first replacement, but still hasn't responded to my emails or called me back after I informed her that the replacement monitor was worse. I even emailed her pictures of the issue. She also informed me that this is "normal for this type of monitor". THIS is not normal.
Bottom Line: Overall, a poor experience with Dell. I was thinking about purchasing a Dell U3011 in the next year or two, but now I'm really not sure that's a good idea after experiencing such poor quality control. I would strongly recommend against purchasing one of these units until Dell improves their quality control.
Attached are pictures of the backlight bleed of both monitors. Left is replacement. Right is original monitor. Brightness is set to 35. Contrast is at 75. Both monitors have excessive levels of backlight bleed, especially in the top right corners. Very obvious when images are enlarged.
Pros:general computing, movies/games, programming

Hi NotASatisfiedCustomer,
Sorry for all the inconvenience caused to you and sorry about the bad experience with the support. I'm not sure with this issue however, we value your feedback and see that we will work on it .
As per as the Back light Bleed is concerns , i have found one of the articles for you from our Dell community forum. Here is what it says :-
Uneven Backlight Dell monitors do not have 100% backlight uniformity specification. As long as the center 2" circle meets our manufacturer specifications, it is acceptable. If the Brightness and Contrast are maxed to 100 and you measure the brightness difference of any two points on the monitor, the difference will never be greater than 25%.
Uneven Color Dell monitors do not have 100% color uniformity specification. As long as the exact center 2" circle meets x=0.313 and y=0.329 (6500K), it meets our specifications to the manufacturer. So, the center point may be 6500K, but the sides and corners may not which is why you may see that one side or corner is different than the others.
So, if you'd like us to look into this issue , we will be glad to help and see what best we can do to help you . You can reach in Facebook - http://bit.ly/HlJ9LZ Twitter@Dellacares- http://bitly.com/P5W1OT or join the conversation with Dell experts in Dell community forum - http://dell.to/GY65Xz
I hope this was helpful . Thank you for choosing Dell !
I bought two of these monitors that I put side-by-side for an extra large work space. I couldn't be happier. The resolution is fantastic! I recommended this monitor to a coworker and he bought one also.
Pros:work

Hello WaningCrescent,
Thats great ! I'm glad that you are very happy with this monitor and appreciate for the recommendation. I wish you all the best and hope you will be happier than ever!
In this review, I would like to mention the cons of this monitor.
1) There is only one HDMI port. If you want to use the same monitor for more than one computer, you've to think about other connector.
2) The build-in USB hub would stop function when the monitor (not the computer) gets into sleep mode.
3) This is a 24" monitor. And I'm sitting about 2' away from it. And I find that while viewing in landscape orientation, the two sides are a bit darker than the center. Since I'm editing photo, that's why my eyes are more sensitive to this brightness different.
4) I use huey to calibrate the color. And my monitor is greenish before calibration.
5) Color Gamut is only 82% (CIE 1976). (Other more expensive DELL IPS monitor can reach 100%.)
I listed out the cons such that any potential buyers could think about how to work around the limitation.
Don't get me wrong. I like this monitor so much that I even bought two of them!!
Pros:photo editing

Hello NickNWW,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Reviews like this can really help other customers find the exact monitor they want. This monitor should have the option to connect via VGA, DisplayPort, or DVI-D port.
Glad to hear that you like this monitor and so much so that you got two! Thank you for choosing Dell. -SaraT
I bought this monitor on sale. 16:10 is perfect for working. Color is so real and so clear. And, its not too bright to hurt my eys. I should buy this earlier so I don't need to spend money to buy other 3 monitors.
