V725W

PostedApril 16, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
This printer goes through ink faster than an alcoholic and a 24 pack of beer. It is costly to maintain! Additionally, if one of the four cartridges runs out of ink, it renders the entire printer useless. I have gone round and round with tech support to see what I can do if one of the cartridges runs out, but have had no success. Sadly, the printer manual does not alert you to this little er, BIG problem. Overall, I miss my old printer and wish I had not donated it to charity!
Response from Dell.comBy DonaldDforDellCustomer ReviewsApril 17, 2013
Hello FrustratedJulie,

Sorry to hear you are so frustrated. Ink is an expensive commodity these days. One tip is to go into your printer properties and set it to greyscale printing, when you do not need color. This will save you lots of ink and headaches.

Hope that helps!

Do not buy this printer

PostedApril 13, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
Maybe I shouldn't be surprised but the replacement cartridges cost $50 each. $200 for all four replacements. Printer costs $129 now. Cartridges print about 200 pages if you are lucky, so expect to be buying replacements soon.
Single use cartridges are a joke, print a test page and your cartridge stops working.
Outside of the cartridges it worked OK.

What was I Thinking?

PostedApril 10, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
After reading all these bad reviews, I was thinking... there is NO way! So going against my gut - I purchased this printer with 3 year warranty ( thinking I'll definitely need it) and 3 sets of new ink replacement!
Although I have a BA degree in Computer Science, I couldn't set this printer to SAVE MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!
I called tech support and their advice was to buy an epson??????
DO NOT BUY THIS.... UNLESS YOU NEED A VERY EXPENSIVE BOX!
Pros:looks good
Cons:doesn't work!, cant connect to a network, takes 5 mins to power on, horrible screen navigation
Response from Dell.comBy JonathanNforDellCustomer ReviewsApril 12, 2013
Hi Sitech27,

I checked the hardware requirements of the V725w and it clearly states that one needs a B.S. in Comp Sci to setup this printer! :)) All jokes aside, I regret that you have had such a lousy experience with this All-in-One printer. Please feel free to reach out to DellCares to see if they might be able to improve your Dell experience with this matter.

Terrible Printer

PostedApril 9, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER! IT IS TERRIBLE! I got it all setup and went to print and then is said there was a paper jam. I checked all 3 places it tells you to look and there was NO paper jam. Finally, after trying to print 10 times later, it prints one page then says there is a paper jam. Again, no paper jam. Then the screen went blank and it made all these horrible sounds. What makes this even worse is my company provided this printer and I am going to buy an HP out of my own pocket, just so I dont have to deal with another one of these terrible printers. And to top it all off, there was no instructions in the box or anything. I had no idea to connect it to wireless, finally after searching online I found some instructions, went to set it up and then it said it was successful and then didn't work. DONT BUY THIS PRINTER!

Black Ink Cartridges stop working when 1/2 full

PostedMarch 11, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
I've tried numerous black ink cartridges and every time they reach about half full it stops printing black at all. I've followed the troubleshooting directions to no avail, downloaded the driver updates to no avail and nothing is working. This printer doesn't get used on a daily basis. I can print about 20 pages before I have to change the ink cartridge, even when the printer panel shows the ink half full. This is ridiculous and an incredible waste of money!

using it with a mac. i was told it would work with it, but set up after three different attempts at getting help from dell (each time for more than 1.5 hrs on the phone) was impossible. ended up getting an IT guy com in to install, he had to search the web with much difficulty , to get driver. $$$. Now trying to get ink toner from website, it is not automated like my previous HP. spent 45 min on the web, impossible to order all toners at once..?!

Not Windows 8 compatible even though advertised as such....

No, I do not recommend this product.
On the homepage for this printer, Dell proudly says "Windows 8 Compatible"
On the Drivers page there are only drivers listed for XP, Vista, and 7.
It's been almost a year since Dell updated a driver for this device. What a waste of money.
Cons:not compatible

I am sorry to hear you are having troubles setting up your V725w printer. For printer drivers, check out this page:

V725W Printer

PostedFebruary 9, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
This All-in-one V725W printer I purchased less than three months now. Dell has replaced it within 2 months due to PC cannot communicate with it. They gave me a refurbished one which I have since called Dell 4 times to install new firmware, etc. but Printer continues to printer every imaginable character there is until all paper in tray is exhausted even when it's disconnected from PC. I have not attempted to go wireless.. just trying to use the basic functions without a problem.
I am now awaiting a new Print head from Dell. I certainly would NOT recommend this product.

Not bad for money, but probably better options

PostedFebruary 4, 2013
Yes, I would recommend this product
This was purchased to replace a quite old HP 6110. The HP still worked fine, but the scanning had degraded and it did not have wireless capabilities. I thought this would be a good replacement. Yes and no.
Good news. It was easy to setup, quickly acquired my wireless network, and seems to work flawlessly printing from both my laptop and iPhone / iPad. I did not have the issue others reported of having to upgrade the firmware to support the iOS printing. Print quality is acceptable, maybe even good.
Bad news.
Like all recent Dell printer purchases, this makes a lot of noise and bangs and clacks a lot as it feeds paper and prints. I have two color lasers that are also incredibly noisy.
Copying is an exercise in patience to say the least. While the HP would scan a sheet and start printing, this printer is slow to start. And you have to wait for the whole process to end and the panel reset before you can scan a second page. I was copying tables from a book and it took forever. On the HP I would be positioning as it printed one page and immediately be able to start the process for the second page. Not with this one. Click, clack, whirl, bang... wait, wait, wait... OK, second page. Wow.
One of uses I make of the scanner is to make remote deposits to my business account. This was always a snap with the HP even with dimmed scan quality. I have yet to get the Dell to work. The website / browser Java recognizes the V725W but when I click on scan it gives me an error suggesting the printer is not connected. I tried it wireless and with a USB connection. No luck. I actually just dragged the HP back out to make a deposit. Hopefully I can solve that problem quickly.
All in all, not the quality I'd like to see from Dell. It is worth the minor expense just to have a wireless printer for my laptop and iOS devices, but the all-in-one aspect is falling short so far.

Hello TomVA,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with the Dell V725w. I have this one and the V525w myself. I am very pleased with them. It sounds like a software incompatibility with your banking software. It should simply print to file and send right? Well, that is up to their technical support. They know how it works. As for the scanning, I do not know why you are scanning one page at a time. The V725w has a built in ADF, so all you do is load it, start your scanning and come back to it. There should be no need to wait for screens to clear and to start all over.

I hope you can get your bank software running! Give us an update when you work on it.

This model is a lemon

PostedFebruary 3, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
I have consistently bought Dell printers because they are inexpensive, the provide all the functions I want, and interface easily with my Dell computer. While this version INITIALLY did what I needed, it developed a glitch in it's ability to interface, and will jo longer scan. Similarly, it no w need to "think" for as long as 15 minutes to print a PDF. My previous Dell simply stopped printing color. The life expectancy of Dell printers is just too short. But this v725w seems to have a few bugs.
Pros:at home. printing & scanning, printing pictures (limited)

Network Conflicts With Dell V725W All & Windows 7

PostedJanuary 31, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
This product is very slow to operate and has conflicts with other Dell printers as well the software takes forever to load.
Printer panel freezes and has to be re-started at times to operate from the printer to move thru the sub-menus.
Could not get the wireless network operating while other Dell printers (3100cn laser) were attached to my Dell Inspiron 64 bit computer running Windows 7.
Although I am very disapointed with the product I am using it as a fax and photocopier also as a scanner thru a USB connection to my computer.
All of my equipment is Dell and this is the first time I have a poor result with Dell.
Pros:real estate business

Not a great printer

PostedJanuary 11, 2013
No, I do not recommend this product.
This printer worked great after some installation problems that took about 3 or 4 hrs to remedy.
But then after I let it sit for 3 or 4 days, the printheads needed cleaning. Took me forever to find out you have to clean printheads directly from the printer. Anyway, that worked, but wasted some ink. I don't look forward to doing that often.
Now for the corker. I print alot of birthday and other cards. I found out the hard way that this printer would not handle card stock through the duplexer. Changed settings and all I could think of, but card stock still caused a paper jam.
I am returning this printer. As luck would have it, my 2 year old HP 6500A decided to behave and not lose its drivers. So I'm going back to it. It feeds anything you throw at it. Duplexer and all.
Something in the software for this printer accidentally took me a Lexmark website....HMMMM...could this be a Lexmark? I don't like Lexmarks and would NOT own one. So, another reason for the return.
Hope that helps you make up your mind.
Pros:home printing documents cards, lots of photos.

I have had nothing but trouble with this printer since I received it. If I copy a document, then I cannot print something. If I had an address, I would certainly return the printer. I also had to call in a service call because after only 6 months, I could'nt get the printer to print. I did have luck with the service representative and got the problem solved but shouldn't have had this problem with such a new printer.

DELLightful Printer!

PostedDecember 22, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I had been an HP gal for many, many years. However, when my inkjet went to HP Heaven, and I had to have another one immediately, I turned to Dell simply because they offered me credit and HP didn't after my Bill Me account was closed because of a security breach ON THEIR END. This lack of security and cooperation lost HP a customer that Dell gained. I'll admit I was somewhat leery about buying this printer because of the negative reviews appearing here, but there were enough positive ones that I took a chance. I am *SO* pleased that I did. Setup was *EASY* ~ the hardest part for this old gal was just lifting it into place. Once I familiarized myself with a new set of printer logistics, everything functions wonderfully and *quietly* without shaking the table, a problem that my HP had. I have already put this machine through its paces ~ scanning, copying, and the two-sided printing that is a must for my newsletter. I was also able to give away a second HP that I had kept just for scanning and copying because this dandy Dell does *everything* in one attractive machine that looks great in my home office. It's also sturdy enough to handle the weight of my kitties ~ a must for any office machine in my home. :) Thanks, Dell! Although I hope it's a few years into the future, when my HP PC decides to go to HP Heaven, I just may *go Dell* there, too! :) ♥

Excellent Printer (but after firmware upgrade)

PostedDecember 22, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
I got a V725w on sale @ Dell for $100. The biggest selling point was "AirPrint" - the ability to print documents/photos/emails etc. straight from my iPhone.
Shipping was trouble free and I received the printer on time via FedEx.
I did not have any trouble setting up this printer on my wireless network probably because I used the "Push Button Configuration" method. All you have to do is to push the PBC/Connect button on the router when prompted by the printer and keep it pressed. The printer will take approximately 20 to 30 seconds to connect. I don't care about earlier negative reviews about wireless connectivity. I connected this printer to my wifi network today (12/21/12) and I did not have any issues. Next, I added this printer to my devices (Win 7 Professional) on a Sony Vaio-Z laptop. Printer was discovered instantly and added without any trouble. Again, no issues.
But here comes the kicker...
The printer specs claims for it to be an "AirPrint" compatible device, and it is in deed compatible - but only after you upgrade your firmware. I struggled for two hours with my iPhone and Motorola router settings trying to find this printer on my iPhone. No luck!
Apparantly, Dell does not update the firmware of their hardware before shipping these devices to customers. I ordered this printer only a few days ago and it shipped with firmware version "FHN.HBV.P0.111121b" which is NOT, I repeat, NOT AirPrint compatible. You can try to find and connect to this printer on your iPhone for as long as you like, but your iPhone will never find this printer.
The Fix:
1. Connect your printer to your computer via the USB cable that comes with the printer.
2. Visit this Dell V725w firmware page:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/dell-v725w-inkjet-printer?driverId=V0GGK&fileId=3001304983
2. Downnload the latest firmware (on 12/21/12, it was "FHN.HBV.P2.120712"). After download, select the "Run" option. After download, a window will appear and guide you through the process. IMPORTANT: it will seem like the download has stalled after approx. 5% download. Be patient, and wait for the printer to shut-down and restart. After restart, you'll get a "success" message confirming firmware upgrade but you'll never actually see the download bar move past 5% download. Whatever, it works and after the printer reboots and is ready, it is effortlessly discoverable via AirPrint.

Dell V725w Printer

Yes, I would recommend this product
I received the printer a couple days ago and today 21 December unpacked it and did the set-up. It was very easy and the all-in-one is working perfectly. I will say if having issues with the Wifi use the furnished usb cord from computer to printer to get it up and running intially, after that it is working like a charm. I just completed synching by ipad to printer as well (highly recommend like stated before, update the firmware on printer.)
Again I highly recommend this printer.
Pros:home office use

V725w Printer

No, I do not recommend this product.
The printer has problems. I have not been able to scan any documents. It wont stay on my wireless network. Its cheap the buttons do not illuminate. The screen does not light up enough to see in dimly lit areas. I was on the phone with Dell support who just wanted to sale me service for $239 for a printer that hasn't worked properly and I have had it less than 30 days. The tech will call me back in 2 days.
Pros:home office

WOW AMAZING PRINTER

PostedDecember 5, 2012
Yes, I would recommend this product
Just received my printer today,The ease of set up was super easy, connecting to wireless router with WPS made it real smooth to connect to network, So to all its very important you update your printers FIRMWARE i couldnt print from any of my apple devices till i updated it, once i got it updated my ipad, iphone and etc. , prints like a charm. Also with these other reviews about slow print speeds, i have not yet had a promblem; but y'all have to keep in mind you have to have a decent router and internet speed to have these things to work as fast as you want them too. But overall I LOVE THIS PRINTER. GOOD JOB DELL! Keep it up
